What is irony?

What is irony?

is poetic irony different to other types of irony?

This comment is not irony. Tee hee.

Irony is the opposite of what is supposed to happen.

Poetic irony is when the irony tags along more than just irony and carries a message which resembles that of a message that would have to be clearly planned.

What is this new member trying to convey?

Rain on your wedding day.

Does that mean irony is always comical?

>irony is the laugh that turns into weeping

Iron

That joke was already made in this thread here

The absolute state of Veeky Forums. Dramatic irony (you know, the one to talk about regarding literature) relies on the reader or audience knowing more about a certain situation than the character does. We see this in the Greek tragedies when, for instance, the audience knows more about Oedipus' fate than he does. Dramatic irony lies in the fact that the observer knows that Jocasta is his mother before he does.

This is just one type of irony though

Yeah, the one that's actually relevant to Veeky Forums.

How you'd describe low carbon steel

It's when things are full of iron. Like spinach, which is full of iron. Its so irony!
