Byron is enjoyable as fuck but I just don't think he measures up to the first four where poetic genius is concerned.

This has to be the worst take on Veeky Forums. Real rankings are:

1. Blake
[big power gap]
2. Coleridge
3. Shelley
4. Byron
5. Keats
6. Wordsworth

>3. Shelly

Thinking Shelley is the worst is the most childish of memes. It's indicative of senseless trend riding instead of real reading.

I think my problem with Shelley is his overpowering self-aggrandizement. In all his stuff it's clear that the hero or main character of the poem is supposed to be him. He's the complete opposite of Keats, whom I love precisely because he doesn't put himself in his own poetry.

This, he had the potential to be a top 3 poet but all his embarrassing perma-adolescent shit takes him down

Can we stop having these threads where we rank the Romantic poets? They're all really good. Keats is number one though—followed by Wordsworth.

It does at least stimulate discussion about good poetry, which is nice.

>Byron is enjoyable as fuck but I just don't think he measures up to the first four where poetic genius is concerned.
Because he's a narrative and satirical poet and not a romantic poet in the style of the others at all.

Wordsworth and Keats cannot be at the bottom lol... Wordsworth is the greatest poet since Milton along with by Beaudelaire.

>tfw Byron was the only one who was a bestseller
>tfw the masses are wrong yet again

Blake is the only good romantic poet. Get over it.
No, you do not get to base your opinion of him on his early works.
No, you do not get to debase him because you do not understand him.

no do modernists and Elizabethans

1. To Autumn
2. Ode to a Nightingale
3. Ode to Psyche
4. Ode on Melancholy
5. Ode on a Grecian Urn
6. Ode on Indolence

This - it's really annoying when people dismiss him having never read America a Prophecy, Book of Urizen etc

The guy predated a good bit of German Romantic philosophy about 50 years in advance, just from sperging about anarchist interpretations of Milton, scripture, some other radicals/anarchists, and mystics. Not to mention translating all that into visual language while also being a technically amazing poet.

Any love for the Baroque?
