Why has Christianity become so pro-life, pro-nature, and pro-normie?
I'm attracted to the Christianity of the hairshirt and the Desert Fathers, the Christianity of abjection and of Origen who cut off his genitals. A life of poverty, repudiation, and flagellation leading to crucifixion at Golgotha. A Christianity for those who lead lonely and terrible lives among criminals and madmen, for hermits and holy fools.
"If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters--yes, even their own life--such a person cannot be my disciple." Luke 14:26
"If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you." John 15:19
Landon Lopez
Afaik the early Christians thought the second coming was going to happen within their lifetimes, so they were manic to be ready in time
Robert Murphy
Viewing a colossal religion floating over a mass of billions throughout history through warped, narrow lenses. In a sense, Christianity flourished due to both its universality - its catholicism, its ability to integrate with any culture and offer salvation to any man - and its particularity, its narrow path, its separation from 'the world'. I don't think they are necessarily in opposition. Many are called, but few are chosen.
Levi Bennett
it can't be integrated into any culture though without destroying that culture and it's universalism is part of why i hate it. im going to look into gnosticism. catholics worship Yaldabaoth, so they're basically satanists.
Hunter Campbell
>doesnt like christianity because it destroys cultures >opts for a pessimistic, borderline-antinatalist sect instead because that somehow preserves culture
You're a retard
Dominic Price
Imagine being this stupid.
Anthony Rodriguez
In Rome, do as the Romans do.
Jose Brown
Republicans are greedy pieces of shit that Jesus would beat out of the temple.
Josiah Young
already your kinky-haired semite christ and the frayed old shawl mary have crept away in silence, bent double under cover of night, from this continent. not too long from now you will return to the bosom of the hebrews and arabs and mumbai rats that are your kin.
Charles Jones
That's precisely the point. Replacing, even destroying local cultures is one of the goals of Christianity, because Christianity offers something better. You don't integrate the Truth with falsehood.
Isaac Hernandez
i can't wait to cannibalize the flesh of every papist alive during ww3
Dominic Fisher
>"If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters--yes, even their own life--such a person cannot be my disciple." Luke 14:26
This is about becoming a disciple and what the requirements were, hating your family if they didn't love Jesus. "If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you." John 15:19
This is about the world's hate for christians. Is it just me or is every religious post on this website undermining Christianity.
It's like the satanists on /x/ have an agenda as much as the nazis on /pol/
Owen Wright
every religious post on this website is teenage former atheists who have turned into ~trad~ catholics because they're insecure in their views and grip onto whatever the current contrarian zeitgeist is
Christian Nelson
Well, everyone has to have a goal, I guess. Peace be with you.
Jace Anderson
>current contrarian zeitgeist
Isn't that atheism?
Wyatt Wright
No, it's been "catholicism" for at least 2 or 3 years now.
James Turner
>tfw you're a liberation cradle Catholic
Feels good to be genuine desu
Brody Russell
Gnosticism is known to be highly syncretic though
Carter Miller
My only question is, why? Why do you need this form of spirituality and religion?
Do you just choose to ignore rationality and the holes in the philosophy? Or are you just edgelording and somehow unconsciously perceiving this as a way to be taken seriously/laid?
Juan Jenkins
Culturally speaking, so is Christianity. Compare a Catholic mass in New York, Budapest, China, or Sudan. Each does it differently, with their own local flair, without straying from the basic Christian ideal.
Charles Brown
>ITT: POG poppin' off that his intelligence unit is soft and he wants to be a Ranger.
Go be a monk, then, faggot and stop your bitching.
Sebastian Jackson
The world is fundamentally irrational, so religion is hardly out of step with that.
Camden Morgan
"Local flair" >New York gay clergy >Budapest agnostics who like the liturgy >China officials of the state ready to rat on any dissent they hear about during confession >Sudan no consecrated host available, it was all stolen by a starving family of pagans the night before
Jackson Miller
Because the material world is evil and I want to transcend it so I don't get reincarnated back into this hellhole
Aiden Powell
How is the world irrational? Seems like everything in the world is cause and effect to me. People have an existential crisis and ignore proper training in analytical thought or critical argument, so they opt for the safety of a religion. Plenty of people avoid this route. Leading to me back to the question of why you think it's a good idea to follow desert people and eunuchs instead of dedicating yourself to an art or a science and having an actual purpose in life.
Bentley Perry
>Cannibalism I know you're going for shock value, but that says so much more about you than your enemies.
Adam Nelson
GOD YOU PEOPLE ARE SO FUCKING ANNOYING. CAN WE JUST HAVE ONE THREAD WITHOUT RETARDED SUPERIORITY COMPLEX C*THOLICS OR BRAINDEAD "SCIENTISM" *THEISTS
Jonathan Wood
What does that mean? Materialism isn't even a genuine concept anymore since particles are non-entities.
Sounds like you are depressed and are just externalizing your feelings rather than having an actual opinion or worldview.
Adam Robinson
Papauns are a thousand times more virtuous than you or any of your kin will ever be.
Jackson Parker
>can we have a thread with no one who disagrees with me?

Jackson Murphy
DONT YOU DARE POST IN THIS THREAD AGAIN AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRFRRTRTRTTFNFJJFKEJJEE

I'm a grad student in philosophy calm down. I just want to know what his argument is, jeez.
Dylan Bailey
>A life of poverty, repudiation, and flagellation leading to crucifixion at Golgotha. Are you implying that you want to be crucified on Golgotha? If so, you basically equate yourself with Jesus, and I find that pretty disgusting. If you're actually just talking about Jesus, then you're an idiot because he didn't flagellate himself. Your whole post is rhetorical diarrhea and pseudo-cathartic emotional pornography on the level of Rupi Kaur writing about rape.
Leo Baker
Abbos are holier than thou.

>People have an existential crisis and ignore proper training in analytical thought or critical argument, so they opt for the safety of a religion. It was the opposite for me. No amount of analytical thought or critical argument could help me with my existencial crisis. That's where the leap of faith comes - precisely because I refuse to accept anything as meaningless, or that I cannot know anything, therefore it's all absurd. I know that I'm delving into nonsense and I'm perfectly fine with it. It fulfills me and brings me a spiritual joy in life a million times more than cold, analytic arguments - both for and against religion -, or post structuralist semiotic obsession could ever bring on me. I simply choose to believe in it because I know at this point it's something I can only defend by faith and faith alone. It's stupid and contradictory, but I can tell you it has little to do with P implies Q.
Nathan Gutierrez
Because it makes sense of a world that can be incredibly strange.
John Rogers
>there aren't any rich Democrats
Mason Bailey
It doesn't sound like you've exhausted analytical thinking. You can still have spirituality without employing faith based systems or religion. P implies Q is elementary logic which is barely applicable in proper philosophical training, which again makes me think that you don't know what you're talking about. But enjoy heaven I guess.
That isn't what I asked. I asked why "this" form is the one you chose. Why not Islam or paganism or idk any other form of spirituality. Why do you need it to be hardcore, isolationist, acetic neckbeardness? I need an Original Mover within my thought pattern to justify an existing universe, but I don't see how jesus telling me not to finger my butthole has anything to do with it.
Aaron Myers
>People have an existential crisis and ignore proper training in analytical thought or critical argument, so they opt for the safety of a religion. what brainlets believe

>whataboutism >disregarding the premise of an argument via deflection

Origen was a heretic. Christians don't necessarily hate the world, they just love God more than it.
The desert fathers didn't flee into the desert because they hated the world, but because they were weak. I don't say that to sneer.. it can be good to be weak. But they loved God to the extent that they found it necessary to seek a place with no distractions to get close to him. Or to recognize their closeness to him.
Remember, Christ was not just crucified, but he rose again. Those men did not do what they did because they loved suffering and deprivation, but because they loved joy and love.
William Price
>pro-life, pro-nature, It was always both of these things. And with regard to the normie question, once upon a time Christianity exerted itself as a social system everywhere it was dominant, until Protestantism and secularism made cafeteria feel-good anti-intellectual anti-suffering "Christianity" the only acceptable model of it.

That's a weird comment user. It doesn't address anything.

The original premise is Jesus would hate Republicans. Just because he'd hate plenty of Liberals does not change that he would not allow Republicans into the Kingdom of Heaven.
Ryan Watson
>Republicans are greedy pieces of shit that Jesus would beat out of the temple.

Then go join an Orthodox monastery in the desert somewhere. It's not like they don't exist anymore.

This is such a great painting, fuck. What's with Russian painters? I love em.

that is every generation of Christians though. There is a reason the text is so ambiguous regarding the second coming.

wow, you win the fish sticker user. Brilliant insight.
Brayden Lee
How can dogma be syncretic? Gnosticism is about only trusting personal revelation. Its basically salad bar religion. Also it involves some drugtrips or something.
Gavin Stewart
can't see where I denied that, friend. Just randomly lurking and pointing out bullshit. Hate this new "whataboutism" trend.
Josiah Hall

As long as we agree that Republicans, the religious party, are horrible Christians who would disgust Jesus.
Liberals too, and people of many ideologies. Atheists as well. Most people actually.
That's all secondary-level discourse based on the original premise.
Landon Ramirez
>(((Republicans)))
Cameron King
Nothing.
Christian Jones
Go join a monastery then, instead of bitching on the internet.
Bentley Baker
natural selection. only life affirming memes tend to survive. shakers are gone, sunnis aren't.

Some top tier political analysis there. See pic related.
Because Jesus was all these things. Cherry picking the Gospel for those quotes ignores the parables of the good samaritan and the whole "MINISTRY" thing where he went and had dinner in the houses of the poor and sinful, and preached to and fed the masses, and cured the ill. Active ministry and love of your fellow man is the example of the bible.
Nathan Lopez
Liberal Christians are trying to out-liberal the secular liberals by equating their faith with sentimental claims like "love one another."
Conservative Christians are trying to out-nationalist the nationalists by equating their faith with sentimental phrases like "family values."
Put another way, liberal Christians are atheists decorating their atheism with sentimental neighbor love, and conservative Christians are atheists decorating their atheism with nationalism. Put still another way, conservative and liberal Christians are not Christians.
