Mein Kampf, to my understanding, tells Hitler's story and his grievances with the Weimar Republic and the Jews. He blamed a scapegoat and that message so resonated with the German people he galvanized a nation and was swept into power. This is fascinating and terrifying.

This is why I made the thread. It seems like history is being edited or whitewashed and that should not happen. Hell I'm sure this topic is not allowed in Germany. Look at that. A first world nation without free speech because of the disasters set in motion by this guy. It's an important study.

Mostly I was making a comparison to our own constitutional government. The Weimar Republic may have been way less than what Germans wanted, but it was still the law. In the US our own constitution is routinely ignored or circumvented (1st, 4th Am) or actively involved in creating a prison industry (13th Am).

I don't think America will fall to the same ethnocentric hubris as the Nazis, partly because we have such a long history of multicultural integration. I'd sooner expect war in Europe over native sovereignty and the refugee crisis.

I think the burden of proof lies on those claiming is it good, considering the one application of the ideology failed miserably.

Today, immigrants are threatening to become the new majority, and when there are such huge numbers of them, it's more likely that the natives will end up assimilating into the immigrants' culture than the other way around.

It's fair to say integration of many Europeans was easier than a lot of other types of immigrants, yeah.

But I would caution thinking that they had roughly the same culture. That's a bit dismissive of the divisions, at the time Catholicism was a much bigger divide. Remember, religion played more of a part in peoples lives than it did now. I mean, they were poor, unwashed, and differing in religion. It's a recipe for division, at least for a while, which it was.

Also, the Chinese and Japanese have integrated remarkably well by most standards I think; they weren't physically indistinguishable.There's a nasty history of racism with them just like the Irish.

I don't think immigrants are bringing a cohesive culture that could woo natives, that point is a bit alarmist. If immigrants are coming from a variety of nationalities, they would divided. I don't see natives assimilating under those conditions.
