It seems like horror authors usually identify what they think is horrific about life in the time-period they live in and incorporate that into their works.

For Lovecraft, in the era of unexplored oceans and territories and religious superstition, he poised a noumenal realm of malevolent gods whose earthy representatives still lurk terrifying but usually hidden from sight.

For Koji Suzuki who wrote The Ring, it was early tech (videotapes etc) and the notion of technology having the potential to be cursed as well as beneficial to one's indolent lifestyle.

For Ligotti, it is advanced capitalism and the modern corporate workplace, wherein mysterious managers lurk behind frosted glass ready to cull another batch of employees and co-workers who use any means possible of attaining a more superior rank.

Now what is horrific about contemporary life that horror writers can use for material?

I think it is surely the Internet and its capacity to know everything about you, to reduce your existence to a form which you do not feel resembles you, or even imitate you in a way that is beyond your control, it is also multiculturalism and the waves of subhuman shitskin scum destroying urban environments from Sweden to Austin, Texas (Lovecraft touched on this theme in a roundabout manner), it is an advanced culture which fears no war or invading force who, despite the lack of immediate threats, has pursued ideologies promoting degeneracy and the aggressive pursuit of Fun (TM) rather than more noble ideals, it is the implosion of the traditional family and the reduction of each citizen (read: consumer) to an isolated, demoralized hoarder of solitary pleasures.

I mean Deathnote, that's what it's called

Who dis

they're fake makeup freckles

>She's pretty ugly
What did he mean by this?

A quandary indeed. Does he mean she's ugly but less ugly than others or that she's more ugly than others.

I jokingly call my girlfriend "Latina" because she's an eighth Italian but fuck, why are girls from anywhere south of the US so ugly?

How is this in any way relevant?

Those vacuous zombie orbs, tho'.

I don't like that Latina Semen Demon OP posted. I didn't care about his OP, but I do like discussing female beauty aesthetics.

The girl in the OP is white. Are you blind?

She is obviously not white. You can see her dark roots and her eyes are way too dark. In fact, here, she almost looks hapa.

She definitely does not have any heritage from traditionally white regions such as Britain, Scandinavia, or anywhere around the Alps or if she does, it's diluted with nonwhite genes. I'm willing to wager serious cash that she's mixed race or Latina.

Trust me, as one of the few remaining Anglo-Saxons left in Southern California, I am an expert at this.

They write about what they think is horrific and the prominence of the work is what, in hindsight, is indicative of the ubiquity of the fears. The only reason to intentionally incorporate the common fears into their works is to reach as wide an audience as possible which will likely yield a work of lesser quality.

The internet's destruction of privacy is very concerning. But it's just a tool, the real horror is who it is that wants to know more about you and your intentions. If you're not careful these people can know what sites you visit through beacons, cookies, etc and when you visited them. They are following, watching, and learning.
At first it was to predict what you might want to buy and serve you targeted ads. Eventually though these prediction algorithms became so accurate through the information they furtively collect in conjunction with the one we willingly give up to them in exchange for tailor made distractions that people with different ambitions realized they could use them in other ways.
Information publicly available and in some cases privately collected and sold without the knowledge of the person is used to form psychological profiles. Ads are created from these psych profiles. The ads together with bots and paid, and in many cases unpaid, propagandists are used to to incite emotional responses on the target thereby annealing whatever message they chose. This methodology called psychographics is extremely effective and is used to disseminate propaganda like he one in the second part of your last paragraph.
The effectiveness of psychological profile advertising is the real modern horror.

They don't even hide it.

Don't be pedantic, she's clearly white/caucasian.

Who's this ugly bitch anyway?

The fuck are you even on about? Tons of white people have dark hair and dark eyes.

Never read Suzuki, but you have seriously misunderstood HPL and Ligotti, that's for sure. Your interpretative skills are those of a 9-year old, and your research is non-existent to boot. You need to read more, and think at least twice as long as it took you to read, user. Ponder this shit before spewing out half-digested mouthfuls of half-baked insight onto our board, to mix my metaphors.

Nope, you're wrong dilettante philistine soyboy pleb pseud teen bugman faggot

All of those words still mean something no matter how many times you try.

Back to plebbit

I doubt you ever got the point of anything anyone ever said to you, bsr.

You've read precisely one Ligotti story or book (My Work is Not Yet Done and that other story - if even) and you read HPL at the most literal level and throw on the next superficial layer of interpretation, all while using fancy words like 'noumenal'.
I think that this tells us everything we need to know about you, OP. You have not erudition equal to your desires, to paraphrase WB.
>Try harder next time

Wrong. Gb2 reddit, pseuds.

Your lovecraft analysis is wrong. His horror was purely built on his racism, xenophobia and his lack of a god which centered mankind in the universe as he saw it, which is why, along with great and terrifying evil deities beyond human comprehension, he frequently featured protagonists who are ostensibly anglo-american (or just plain anglo) but discover that they are much, much less than racially pure; the realization is usually the climax of the narrative. You could say that his almost consuming fear of foreign people was kindled by the improvement in travel technology at the time which allowed for an explosion of immigration from lands weird to him, but to say that religious superstition had anything to do with it is strange since people are still superstitious to this day, and likewise before Lovecraft's time.
Your Ligotti interpretation is also strange, since most of his short stories feature decaying suburbs and cities, but not workplaces. The guy grew up during the fall of Detroit, so urban decay and the minimal power of the average man to stop that decay is closer to what drove his themes, though even then I'd bank just as much on his admitted chemical imbalances.
The Ring just a mix of old folk stories with new technology. It wasn't making a statement on anything.

The first issue with white nationalism is that white as an identity only came into being a few centuries ago and most people widely considered white today weren't considered only decades ago. The reason why any white nationalist would even imply that anglos, celts and slavs could live along side each other in a ethno-state is due to a need for allies and nothing more. The irony is that of those three it was the anglos of all peoples that were considered white when the concept was first invented, which made the concept flawed in the first place.

Tfw no hipster gf with freckles

In politics you're defined by your enemies though, and non-whites dont make any distinction between 'celt' and 'germanic'.

>Lovecraft
>unexplored oceans and territories

>Suzuki
>videotapes (early tech)

>Ligotti
>advanced capitalism

managed to miss every single one; Ligotti is a throwback writer, Suzuki is a throwback writer, Lovecraft is a sci fi writer.

> discover that they are much less racially pure

I have yet to read a Lovecraft story with this topic much less it being the climax. To be fair I've only read about twenty.
I've only read niggerman and a few stereotypes here and there but it's never significant and not unusual for his time period.

Lovecraft was a shut in who likely didn't even come into contact with foreigners.

Hey, dumbass. Yeah, over here.

*waves at you in a patronizing manner from the near-distance*

OP already sai dthat Lovecraft "touched on that". He was intensely racist, and his experience in New York changed his style most are now familiar with, his time in that city of "apes", "mongoloids" etc having left him feeling like, as Houellebecq* puts it, a harmless animal trapped in a cage with more ferocious animals than it.

His protagonists were essentially representatives of himself, namely sensitive, nervous erudite young white men who are forced to confront a horror which undermines their rational and well-ordered worldview, which itself was not only some pulp blood-and-guts horror but the bleak existential notion that the universe was not in fact indifferent to us (a bleaker notion than the benevolent God theory) but that the universe was actually hostile towards us - we being an irrelevant, obscure race clinging to some rock and easily destroyed by the true elder gods who were here before us and will be here long after our species is snuffed out.

As for Ligotti, many of his stories are set in workplaces, from city offices to factories in dying industrial zones where mysterious management figures lurk behind frosted glass waiting to make fellow employees disappear. Lovecraft barely worked and thus had no real insight into such a world, whereas Ligotti lived in the dystopia that is Detroit and realized that the biggest fear for individuals in his region was not insanity or existential pessimism but material, economic horror. I that sense he has a lot in common with Houellebecq, which is quite fitting given what I've already written. Ligotti is on record as a socialist and despises the fact he spent much of his career in publishing / editing fearing wave after wave of redundancies.

As for Ching Chong Ding Dong, he claims that: "he hoped his frightening fiction would frighten [...] because it revolved around the more realistic and even scarier subjects of technology and scientific knowledge -- or more accurate, the limits of both those things." Perhaps there are unconscious similarities between The Ring and Japanese myths, but it doesn't discount the fact that around this time stuff like Infinite Jest etc were all pointing out that the Millenium and its adventure into the great digital unknown was not a reason for unbridled optimism.

Now I personally consider myself the Ligotti's disciple and the next torch bearer for the horror genre and my focus is partly on the notion of data monitoring the sort of ontological, existential ambiguities which come about as a result of virtual representation of the self. In one of my stories for example, an individual named Arthur Whiteman discovers his digital doppelganger online, which turns out to be an AI produced by an algorithm fed by his entire online chat history, email syntax etc which has been illicitly stolen by Chaim Shekelhoarderling.

This. Post more pics of this ugly bitch.

I think lovecraft is popular again because of one scary thought: we might not make it, we might be succumbing to our flaws, be it personal or governmental or ideological and be doomed to vanish without leaving the earth like any other species.

Wrong you fucking idiot. It is so, so disappointing to see Veeky Forums's population of largely poorly-read, incurious, lazy meme-enthusiasts echo falsehoods (e.g. Kafka working long hours) again and again. Lovecraft was a shut in, true, but he spent several years in New York and his letters and diary entries from that period show that he was extremely overwhelmed by the slit-eyed gooks, the hook-nosed jews, and the kink-haired sweaty monkey niggers which roamed around the hovels and slums of New York. He himself was poor and lived for a time in a tenement where his neighbours lived in squalor, two of them (feral jungle niggers) breaking into his closet and stealing his suits. Lovecraft had more contact with "foreigners" than he cared for. While he was already a loyal anti-semite in his youth, his general racist attitudes became more than just inherited WASP tropes and became instead a sort of genocidal lust aimed at anyone who was not a pale, gaunt New Englander.

good post

? His interpretation is correct

hordes of third world immigrants

>(Lovecraft touched on this theme in a roundabout manner)

That's literally the entire fucking foundation of his great texts.

nice paragraph, fag

That gurl is very cute and pretty
Good post OP!!

You think so? Seems like a varied reception.

>The first issue with white nationalism is that white as an identity only came into being a few centuries ago blah blah blah

I'm not a white nationalist. I never stated nor implied that in my post. Nonetheless, that doesn't change the fact that OP's semen demon looks trashy in her attempt to look white.

Are you the sort of autist who thinks only Nordic and Germanics are white? The girl in the OP pic would clearly be considered white by every single contemporary standard.

Personally I'm afraid of a society that simultaneously pushes toward automation of all processes while also demanding that everyone in that society competes for a diminishing number of jobs that require higher and higher levels of education and specialization as simple manual labor is reduced to an automated process even as capital remains in the hands of capitalists
The Internet is a way out of this: hard AI + capital = the death of capitalism via the death of the capitalist class and its replacement with thinking capital. The Internet of Things is Communism.

What a bore you are.

I wouldn't call that communism.

why not, friendo?

lol americans are getting dumber by the day

She's so icky. Get her off of here!

Cuz it's nothing like communism, it's something completely new and different

No, definitely not. I've observed that there were plenty of sexy white women while visiting Spain. And guess what? They did not look like a little "guerita" like OP's waifu. Trust me, here in SoCal, I can tell them apart. She's obviously mixed race, either with some lost Aztec tribe or somewhere in East Asia.

Whatever you say, friendo. It doesn't change the fact that she is not white and would instead be checking off the "Hispanic" or "Asian" box for a gibs scholarship here in the country where everyone wants to live but claims to hate.

Are you sure?

case in point

>she is not white and would instead be checking off the "Hispanic" or "Asian" box for
Actually no, I'd say breeding with her wouldn't be racemixing either

Yup, 100%. Not that I find the scenario you described involving AI likely at all.

I dunno where you live but anywhere in America this girl would be considered white.

>anywhere in South America
FTFY

Behold, a white woman.

H.P. Lovecraft's thing was actually sex.

>>anywhere in South America
>FTFY
found the Amerimutt

>Not that I find the scenario you described involving AI likely at all.
LOL

The only thing that triggers me about that meme is how ugly it is.

Here in California, which is less than 40% white according to the 2010 census (therefore it is probably even less white now), life is great. People love moving here, although I wish our poor whites didn't leave to make way for poor Latinos such as yourself. Nonetheless, we are blessed to have Catholics as our minority, not dindu muffins.

Anyhow, be that as it all may, I still prefer white women.

Surely this chick has a dick.

Is the gag in this thread that everybody pretends not to notice?

he meant that he was homosexual

That girl is Slavic lol. The girl in the OP just looks Italian.

Nothing wrong with Slavs. Nothing wrong with Meds. However, I do not like mestizas. It's just a personal preference without any loaded ideology.

You're making the strange claim that this chick is mestiza when she doesn't resemble one at all, she looks of Mediterranean descent if anything. You do realize that's makeup she's wearing right?

Slavs and Meds are white t.b.h
They aren't Nordic, but they are a great people

I thought It Follows was one of the only creative horror movies of as far back as I can remember. And while you could look into it as a commentary of promiscuous sex in our culture today (which I completely ignored) regardless I thought it was fresh and fortunately not centered on gore.

right when I start to think Veeky Forums is one of the less virgin boards on Veeky Forums

Not in my house

Living in beautiful Southern California, believe me, I have a certain eye for this. But let's have a second glance.

Hmmmmmmmmmm................

Nope, not white.

I don't know about those races. But they have sexy women. However my girlfriend is also an Anglo-Saxon like myself.

What does it feel like to be a walking talking 56% Amerimutt meme? Ive never seen a real one in the flesh before

Me, a virgin? Sadly, no. I actually regret having had any girlfriends now that I have returned to Christianity and now consider chastity a virtue. During my degenerate teenage years I even banged a women's studies professor.

>56% Amerimutt
I don't lose sleep over it. And frankly when I lived in England for a year most people thought I was British. They had thought my tan was from well-spent "holidays" in Ibiza.

Volcel/incel is a big part of most literary lifestyles, you should really know that by now

i live in socal too wtf does that have to do with anything
>i have a certain eye for this
do you realize how fucking retarded you sound
looks pretty fucking white to me
looks slightly less white but that wasn't the picture originally commented on
ffs just go fuck off you're the worst type of poster you're just dumb

very superficial, so correct on the most elementary level, but then a schoolkid could have told you as much. Take a look at Houellebecq'a essay on HPL for another view.

>t. butthurt "Hispanic White" Dreamer

This is now a thread about /pol/ approved WoCcers. Starting with the final boss, sorry lads

Who is this semen demon?

My waifu. BACK OFF????

An AffenSS

I'm not attracted to black girls but this is hot

Why don't you provide your take on their work then?

Non-whites aren't your enemies

You never read shadow over innsmouth?
Facts Concerning the Late Arthur Jermyn and His Family?

Not the guy you're responding to, but you're a retard

You're obsessed with Houellebecq.
good post

nice b8

not an argument, OP

Non-whites are anti-white, so categorically they are your enemies.

non-whites are not anti-white, silly goose

Not all of them of course, but the ones who are don't make the distinction between "anglo-saxon" and "mediterranean", and like i said, in politics you are defined by your enemies.

Not to mention that the idea that "white as an identity only came into being a few centuries ago" is false, while it may not have been the same as it is nowadays, whites have always distinguished themselves from non-whites when they have lived within the vicinity of each other, going back to greek and roman times. Even Napoleon expressed a basic sense of collective white identity.

>in politics you are defined by your enemies
source on this, since you keep repeating it like an objective fact.

source on the napoleon thing? also, whites distinguished themselves from other whites throughout most of history, and non-whites distinguished themselves from other non-whites throughout history so whites distinguishing themselves from non-whites is par the course. The cut-off and the starting point of "white" are entirely arbitrary.

Carl Schmitt

To clarify I'm not a "white nationalist" myself, all I am is saying that your arguments are specious.

top kek

t.Amerimutt.

Thoughts on this, anyone?

>Austin, TX
What are you talking about? Austin is as safe and beautiful as ever. Are you just buttmad about the traffic?

Way too vague a post my man. Cliches like "we might not make it" are so ambiguous and hollow that it just isn't going to cut it with Veeky Forumss resident philosophers, literary critics and seers. I would recommend trying to articulate what you mean to yourself in a clear and lucid manner first before simply posting:

>I think Lovecraft is popular again
False statement, as his popularity has been pretty much remained consistent since perhaps the 90s.

>we might not make it
Make it in what sense?

>we might be succumbing to our flaws
Again, in what sense? To what flaws?

>doomed to vanish....
This has been a trope since the Cold War, and most of us understand that humanity is just a brief meme in an irrelevant corner of the universe.

>
Internet has made his popularity explode
>
in the sense that we will not outlast rats
>
The fact that we can't really identify the fatal flaw that would doom us is quite important, we don't know where to start to fix ourselves, gonna namedrop PoMo here as metanarratices in which we found comfortable are getting more difficult to hold
>
Yeah it has been a trooe for a while but anxiety appears more widespread, again the internet showing its effects

Not sure on your interpretations, but I think it is true that horror stems from the culture of a time period. Back in the 70's and 80's with a crime boom we had horror stemming from crime notably with slashers and other violent crimes. Before that there was fear of the unknown, ghosts, monsters, mad science. Today modern horror all seems to center around social justice and making the "horror" based around some sort of racism or misogyny, the greatest fear of the time seems to be racists and those without progressive ideology. This is not to say other topics aren't covered throughout all these time periods, but these seem to be the dominant trends with both books and movies.

Even more unheard of horror books have these themes in them if they are not the most outright story basis. I recently read one in the distant future and the author made it a point that men were pretty much extinct and that women were all race mixed until whites no longer were around. Another example is a writer talking about people in the past and depicting the "horrific racism". And how many HPL mimic books come out now but they just focus on twisting his racism?
