Firstly, what defines a real man? To me, a man is someone who trains both their mind and body as much as possible. Training the mind by acquiring knowlodge in order to be prepared for the world and training the body in order to give protection to the ones you love (wife and children). Therefore, both the nerd who neglects his body and strenght and the gym rat who neglects his mind and intelligence, fails to understand the essence of a real man.
What books can help one achieve such objectives. Got you covered:
>Body: Practical Programming for Strenght Training by Mark Rippetoe
>Interpersonal Relationships: How to Speak, How to Listen by Mortimer Adler
>Art: The Arts of the Beautiful by Étienne Gilson; Beauty: A Very Short Introduction by Roger Scruton; What is Art? by Leon Tolstoy; History of Art by Gombrich
>Spiritual: The Bible; The Philosophy of Jesus by Peter Kreeft
>Fashion: Fashion (Oxford History of Art) by Christopher Breward
If anyone has more recommendations, It would be beneficial to everyone.
Spiritual: Tao Te Ching (I recommend the Addis and Lombardo translation), The Perennial Philosophy by Huxley

Honestly reading will only give you bombast and a false sense of superiority on this topic. The real thing you need to experience to become truly adult (or a man) is to go through true hardship. The 21st century not only affords us less pain and hardship, but also the ability to distract ourselves from our problems with entertainment and drugs. We are led this way to a life of meaninglessness and permanent dread. This why we live in a society of children. Pain and suffering is vital for human growth, and interpersonal connection.

What guys think sex means: As a man, I've overcome the primordial chaos of reality to forge my own destiny. Like Marduk slaying Tiamat, I've overcome the numerous negative influence within and without me to build a life I can be proud of. I've strengthened my body, mind, and will power. I communicate this to girls through my physique, dress, demeanour, and accomplishments. While I will eventually decay, I've temporarily ordered myself so that I can bring a woman into my life, and allow her to be herself.
What girls think sex means: Hehehehe he sang "Backstreet's Back" with me and called me a sushi whore before he blew raspberries on my stomach and made me lick his ass

We really don't.

It isn't simply a question of manhood. It is a question of being a human being. Our ancestors lived in incredibly harsh conditions compared to ours. What we crave most is human connection and human community. I am going to essentially parrot Junger to explain this. Leukemia patients miss being in the cancer ward after they beat their disease. Soldiers, after going through incredibly harrowing ordeals, often have trouble adjusting back to normal life, and 9/10 want to go back to the front lines. In addition to this, we have thousands of historical accounts of early American immigrants that fled colonial society to live with Native Americans. Why would soldiers want to go back to the front lines and risk their lives? Why would cancer patients want to go back to their ward? Why would you flee the more technologically advanced colonial society you were born in for the hunter gatherer culture of Indigenous peoples? It is because we crave community. The only way for people to be truly tight knit and connected is to be united by an external existential threat. You see this in politics all of the time. Hitler was able to transcend the inherent class conflicts of Capitalism and the economic blind alleys of Communism by uniting the German population against the threat of Jews. It takes a tribe to raise a human.

Only the 21st century could have produced this eternal child.

True, we certainly have worse outliers, but day to day it's largely the same.

It's called mental illness, every society had it's share of it.

Are you really using CWC as proof that we "live in a society of children"?

It is much more mainstream than simply outliers. Advertising companies cater to younger audiences over older audiences in droves. The cult of youth is most apparent in Silicon Valley, where younger 20 something coders are valued more highly than older and more experienced programmers. Feminism on its surface seems like it has more to do with the tension between men and women, which is an important component, but what it really boils down to is an intense hatred of old people.
Lucas Howard

I think a whole bunch of this new 'alt right' horseshit comes from young boys not knowing how to grow up. Some of this is economical - it's harder to grow up if you cannot afford to start a family - some of it is cultural, as the 60s and 70s threw everything their parents did away for more of a hands-off approach.
Many figures of this new conservatism horseshit prey on these people by a) creating a market for 'how to be a manly man' (see OP) and b) writing the shitty books to sell to their newly created audience, see some of the posts in this thread. It started as a joke (think Maddox and his Art Of Manliness) and now became sincere, just like the alt-right. I read The Way Of Men and what an absolute load of shit that was, like an autistic alien writing a D&D rulebook on 'men'. The alien knows about men because his planet receives a TV station which plays only John Wayne movies.
Anyway, a book I like to recommend to young men is 'In Praise Of Older Women', not because it's about older women, but because it portrays sexual relationships as something absolutely normal and regular, without all the fuss that comes from the puritans as well as the anti-puritans.
