the creative reading and writing community is dominated by women... how do we get more young men to start reading and writing?

tiddies

destroy capitalism

But capitalistic countries are by far the best places to live
>Hong Kong
>Singapore
>New Zealand
>maybe Australia and Canada

Idk, as a young male writer, my biggest challenge about getting into the community is that I think that all my shit sucks

>New Zealand
>maybe Australia and Canada

worst lit records in the anglosphere
worst arts scenes in general
if not for The Lord of the Rings movies, The Mad Max movies and Neil Young they would be utter wastelands

as a male you have an advantage, publishers and agents fucking love male authors, assuming they can write stuff a mass audience can enjoy

there's so few that a lot of female authors don't use their full name, initials then last name... this is done as a selling tactic

and if you're exotic, forget about it

male privilege is real

(same guy)

Also, (granted I dont know every lit project and piece out there) there just isnt a lot of stuff geared towards young men (probably because the scene is overwhelmingly female). the stories that got me into writing stories of my own were from just general media like movies, vidya, and tv. The literary pieces that inspired me were centered around being a young man. Harlan Ellisons A Boy and his Dog really spoke to me in many ways when looked closer upon and I havent really found anything that tapped into being a young man in any setting yet

>Hong Kong

Have communist china's balls in your mouth for saying the wrong thing online. Write the wrong book and get kidnapped and forced to admit you were wrong on TV.

>Singapore
Get laughed at by your family for even considering writing. Live in a country where anything out of a professional career in engineering, medicine, teaching or business is considered worthless.

Just having nice buildings in your downtown area does not mean life is better. Sure - its better than Bangladesh or Malawi but still..,

take away a few women's rights, and men will have more spare time.

cvck

you really expect normie boys to read novels over video games + comic books? get real man

maybe in later life, but most boys are visual, hyper creatures

how did he get through that many pages without buying the book??

And what have you published, user?

Don't fret over the fact that you didn't have the personality for business or finance. If you have a subconscious desire to be penetrated we don't take it out on others.

p sure being a writer requires more personality than a job at the bank but cool bait

I assume this to be bait. women writer's are adored by critics and publishers alike as they desperately try to diversify.

New Zealand is not a successful capitalism. We have major housing and poverty problems. The latest election result means we have a former socialist youth leader as our PM. We're going to see some changes soon.

i'm not a guy, and i've only been writing for a month... i've done a lot of research into the business though and this is the conclusion i've reached
what? a man in the novelist field may very well get the same admiration as a woman in STEM and the various tech companies that they to snatch her up

the only stipulation is you have to be a good writer

You don't. If they don't come to it instinctively, they're either going to lead better lives anyway (which is fundamentally what every member of this board doesn't want to hear) or they're too dense to get under way.

>i'm not a guy, and i've only been writing for a month

Confirmed bait

lol, why is this hard to believe? authorship perception is very important to a successful career, and there is a serious lack of men in the field

Au contraire. Women don't dominate literature today. Commercialism dominates literature today, and women are the pampered pawns of commercialism.

It might FEEL like women dominate "creative reading and writing" today, but only in commercial/vanity-driven metrics (which are the opposite of "creative"), such as:
>book purchasing volume, mainly of uncreative works, rarely high-level literature
>sales uncreative works that were only published for marketing purposes (publishing is a business, and women are more likely to buy a book and read it, but that does not mean they read something "creative" as you pointed out, it's mostly bad cookie-cutter romance plots with some flavor of the month twist, like vampires)
>intentionally portraying the image of being "artsy" because it makes them seem deep, and it justifies emotional thinking instead of objective thinking
>more likely to make the financially irresponsible decision of majoring in literature in college, because unlike men, they don't have the looming feeling of having to support a family, and if they came into financial trouble they could just spread their legs and be swarmed with dozens of men to come to their aid.

None of these things are "creative". You can count all truly great female writers on one hand. Notice how true literature did a complete nose dive inversely to the rise of commercialism (which is largely what propped up feminism, because men realized they can make money off of exploiting women). When it comes to actual creative and profound literature, it's overwhelmingly male.

Your argument is like saying "White people dominate basketball today. The metrics I use are volume of ticket sales, apparel sales, and viewership, where white people dominate." Meanwhile the people actually performing the high level basketball are all overwhelmingly black.

We have sufficient men in literature. It's just saturated with retards like you.

I think there is some truth to this.

>We have sufficient men in literature. It's just saturated with retards like you.
y-you too

>Neil Young
while I love Mr. Young, I think we can all agree that Joni Mitchell represents the pinnacle of Canadian patricianhood.

>how do we get more young men to start reading and writing?
You try publishing something that doesn't cater exclusively towards yuppies.

this has got to happen

It's 2017, just in case you have been in a coma for 20 years.
Men submit more often, more persistently and when they face rejection, work on improving their craft. Minorities and women play the victim card instead of striving for excellence, agents are publishing their work anyway and sales are declining because their sense of entitlement has watered down quality.

>only been writing for a month

Concludes publishing is a man's world.

REEEEEEEEE

Spend less time on 'research' and more on honing the craft and reading more. I've read some 3000 books as an adult, all genres, 50-50 male vs female authors and of the books I would recommend others should read, I'd say a small fraction were written by women. Most women are too self-centered, and with too narrow a perspective, to write more universally compelling books.

Goodreads is predominantly used by women; doesn't mean most readers are women.
