That's right.

this dude is so wrong all the time, it's incredible. you can make your way through life just doing the exact opposite of what he did

List five assertions he has made and tell us why each of them is wrong.

en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Bertrand_Russell

I'll help you out. Here's some quotes.

>god is probably not real
>everythign is dependednt on physics and statistics
>things that cannot be meausred at this exact moment are a pie in the sky
>I don't want anyone to know I wrote a terrible book called a history of philosophy
>they were all dependent on questioning their religion to advance the sciences

Things Bertrand Russel was Right About (part 1):

"No nation was ever so virtuous as each believes itself, and none was ever so wicked as each believes the other."

"When people begin to philosophize they seem to think it necessary to make themselves artificially stupid."

"A hallucination is a fact, not an error; what is erroneous is a judgment based upon it."

"It is preoccupation with possession, more than anything else, that prevents men from living freely and nobly."

"Men fear thought as they fear nothing else on earth – more than ruin, more even than death. Thought is subversive and revolutionary, destructive and terrible; thought is merciless to privilege, established institutions, and comfortable habits; thought is anarchic and lawless, indifferent to authority, careless of the well-tried wisdom of the ages. Thought looks into the pit of hell and is not afraid. It sees man, a feeble speck, surrounded by unfathomable depths of silence; yet it bears itself proudly, as unmoved as if it were lord of the universe. Thought is great and swift and free, the light of the world, and the chief glory of man."

"The best life is the one in which the creative impulses play the largest part and the possessive impulses the smallest."

"My desire and wish is that the things I start with should be so obvious that you wonder why I spend my time stating them. This is what I aim at because the point of philosophy is to start with something so simple as not to seem worth stating, and to end with something so paradoxical that no one will believe it."

"The scientific attitude of mind involves a sweeping away of all other desires in the interests of the desire to know—it involves suppression of hopes and fears, loves and hates, and the whole subjective emotional life, until we become subdued to the material, able to see it frankly, without preconceptions, without bias, without any wish except to see it as it is, and without any belief that what it is must be determined by some relation, positive or negative, to what we should like it to be, or to what we can easily imagine it to be."

"Organic life, we are told, has developed gradually from the protozoon to the philosopher, and this development, we are assured, is indubitably an advance. Unfortunately it is the philosopher, not the protozoon, who gives us this assurance."

Got it. Now I know your problem with him.
Figured it came from a standpoint of Theism and Traditionalism. Hardly surprised. This is Veeky Forums after all. Where bitter loses go to scream about how Blacks, Jews, Atheism science, and collectivism have ruined everything.

>everythign is dependednt on physics and statistics

he didn't say that

>>things that cannot be meausred at this exact moment are a pie in the sky

he didn't say that either.

The guy believed in a-priori knowledge, was a rationalist, and thought universals existed. You haven't read him

...

Bert, great to see you old friend! I'm glad to see you've enjoyed my theories, it's always nice when someone is willing to admit their entire worldview is naive. You did it for Frege, I did it for you! Perhaps you'll admit your atheism is equally naive, but I suppose we'll see! Anywho, I must be off, Adele is at home cooking my meal, I don't know what I would do without her! God Bless you Bert, and Happy New Year! Oh sorry, Happy New Year is sufficient for you I suppose, you old grump!

Part 2:

"One of the most horrible things about commercialism is the way in which it poisons the relations of men and women. The evils of prostitution are generally recognized, but, great as they are, the effect of economic conditions on marriage seems to me even worse. There is not infrequently, in marriage, a suggestion of purchase, of acquiring a woman on condition of keeping her in a certain standard of material comfort. Often and often, a marriage hardly differs from prostitution except by being harder to escape from. The whole basis of these evils is economic. Economic causes make marriage a matter of bargain and contract, in which affection is quite secondary, and its absence constitutes no recognized reason for liberation. Marriage should be a free, spontaneous meeting of mutual instinct, filled with happiness not unmixed with a feeling akin to awe: it should involve that degree of respect of each for the other that makes even the most trifling interference with liberty an utter impossibility, and a common life enforced by one against the will of the other an unthinkable thing of deep horror."

"Government by majorities can be made less oppressive by devolution, by placing the decision of questions primarily affecting only a section of the community in the hands of that section, rather than of a Central Chamber. In this way, men are no longer forced to submit to decisions made in a hurry by people mostly ignorant of the matter in hand and not personally interested."

"The method of "postulating" what we want has many advantages; they are the same as the advantages of theft over honest toil."

"People seem good while they are oppressed, but they only wish to become oppressors in their turn: life is nothing but a competition to be the criminal rather than the victim."

"Nine-tenths of the activities of a modern Government are harmful; therefore the worse they are performed, the better."

"Mystery is delightful, but unscientific, since it depends upon ignorance."

"There is no logical impossibility in the hypothesis that the world sprang into being five minutes ago, exactly as it then was, with a population that "remembered" a wholly unreal past. There is no logically necessary connection between events at different times; therefore nothing that is happening now or will happen in the future can disprove the hypothesis that the world began five minutes ago." -- NOTE (for brainlets): HE IS NOT ASSERTING THAT THE HYPOTHESIS IS TRUE, MERELY THAT IT IS UNFALSIFIABLE. GOD IS SIMILARLY AN UNFALSIFIABLE HYPOTHESIS

"Written words differ from spoken words in being material structures. A spoken word is a process in the physical world, having an essential time-order; a written word is a series of pieces of matter, having an essential space-order."

"The tendency of our perceptions is to emphasise increasingly the objective elements in an impression, unless we have some special reason, as artists have, for doing the opposite."

>"The best life is the one in which the creative impulses play the largest part and the possessive impulses the smallest."

These are the words of a known cuckold alright

>It's yet another ribbit versus reddit episode

do you have anything to actually say sweetums

>defending a known cuckold and two-faced coward
Witt would look down on you if he wasn't rolling in his grave

>Blacks, Jews, Atheism science, and collectivism have ruined everything.
Nope, but they are a negative nonetheless (except muh science that you inserted for brainlet points).
Besides, Bertrand was wrong on many other things. Not to point that the guy was a cuck. Not an unfortunate my-wife-cheated-on-me one, a willing cum eating cuckhold.

C-c-cuuuuck!
K--k-k--kike
rREeeeeeddit
Jejjejeweew

He was literally a cuckold, did you never read his biography?

>there are people that unironically like brainlet brussels

Notice how on Veeky Forums none of the reactionary trolls have anything of substance to say or refute genuinely intelligent thoughts? They just accuse you of being something only they find offensive.

What's that sweetums? You can't refute russel? Well better accuse me of being a reddit kike cuck nigger fag jew race traitor coward

/pol/ the so-called nexus of free speech tends to delete my threads and ban me because I assert too many correct things.

What do you know? It's actually the reactionaries who are not only cowards, but have nothing of substance to ever say except "YOU HAVE TO GO BACK"

he ran out of thinks, don't even try to communicate

he literally raised MULTIPLE of his wifes sons that she had after his marriage

>he was a c-c-c-cukkkk m8y

I don't give a fuck you brainless cretin. Refute the things he actually said. Being a cuck doesn't make you wrong about anything. The only thing it makes you is a fucking cuck. Or are you too fucking stupid to understand categories? You must be.

Why come to a website that is literally fundamentally structured to promote content found most provocative in short spaces of time and get this buttblasted that the discourse isn't as rationally delineated and civil as you would like?
In the most sincere way possible, fuck off to reddit

It proves hes just saying what people want to hear

What's your favorite brainlet Russel moments?
I can't choose between his controversy with Poincaré (an actual brilliant mathematician) and his, ahem, interpretation of Nietzsche.
Then again I recently read "has man a future", a fine piece of brainletism that shows a powerful grasp of geopolitics.
Defend any of the above in the thread.
Defend anything from his controversy with Poincaré or from the entire "history" of philosophy he wrote.

Cuck philosophy leads to being a cuck. Its all you need to know to dismiss a thinker

Part 3:

"Physics is mathematical not because we know so much about the physical world, but because we know so little: it is only its mathematical properties that we can discover."

"To save the world requires faith and courage: faith in reason, and courage to proclaim what reason shows to be true."

"I believe that love of truth is the basis of all real virtue, and that virtues based upon lies can only do harm."

"Jealousy and possessiveness kill love." (what a fucking KEK)

"I think all the great religions of the world - Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, Islam, and Communism - both untrue and harmful. It is evident as a matter of logic that, since they disagree, not more than one of them can be true. With very few exception, the religions which a man accepts is that of the community in which he lives, which makes it obvious that the influence of environment is what has led him to accept the religion in question."

"I do not think that the real reason why people accept religion has anything to do with argumentation. They accept religion on emotional grounds. One is often told that it is a very wrong thing to attack religion, because religion makes men virtuous. So I am told; I have not noticed it."

"A good world needs knowledge, kindliness, and courage; it does not need a regretful hankering after the past, or a fettering of the free intelligence by the words uttered long ago by ignorant men."

"The infliction of cruelty with a good conscience is a delight to moralists. That is why they invented Hell."

"Every man, wherever he goes, is encompassed by a cloud of comforting convictions, which move with him like flies on a summer day."

"Next to enjoying ourselves, the next greatest pleasure consists in preventing others from enjoying themselves, or, more generally, in the acquisition of power."

"Advocates of capitalism are very apt to appeal to the sacred principles of liberty, which are embodied in one maxim: The fortunate must not be restrained in the exercise of tyranny over the unfortunate."

"Children must be under authority, and are themselves aware that they must be, although they like to play a game of rebellion at times. The case of children is unique in the fact that those who have authority over them are sometimes fond of them. Where this is the case, the children do not resent the authority in general, even when they resist it on particular occasions. Education authorities, as opposed to teachers, have not this merit, and do in fact sacrifice the children to what they consider the good of the State by teaching them "patriotism," i.e., a willingness to kill and be killed for trivial reasons."

"The most essential characteristic of scientific technique is that it proceeds from experiment, not from tradition."

Wow you could publish volumes with irrefutable logic like that..

I'm sorry you're so afraid.

>"Physics is mathematical not because we know so much about the physical world, but because we know so little: it is only its mathematical properties that we can discover."

NOW I'M STARTING TO GET ANGRY

1. People don't make themselves artificially stupid when they philosophize, unless he thinks he's making himself artificially stupid by going to such basic axioms that it takes him half a volume to prove 1+1=2. They too simply reduce the axioms with which to work.

2. A hallucination, is in fact, and error, which is why judgments based on hallucinations are in error. If a hallucination was not an error, there would be no issue with making a judgement based on it.

3. Men do not fear thought. They love thought. They can't escape thought. They find themselves daydreaming and hypothesizing for no reason other than the joy of it. Thought is creative and uplifting, contains within it the capacity to recreate and advance and progress; thought is structured yet creative, abiding by Reason and the Understanding (most of the time) and yet constantly pondering new ideas. Thought abides by the authority it implicitly accepts as true, whether that be the authority of sensory data, or logical propositions, or whatnot. Thought looks up to heaven and is overjoyed to find it. It sees man, a noble consciousness, surrounded by a symphony of boundless, joyous creation, and is drawn into this symphony, as though it were the blessed servant of the universe. Thought is great and swift and free, the light of the world, and the chief glory of man.

4. A life's quality is totally independent of its creative impulse. The creative man with boundless possession may be unhappier than the dull man with little to his name. The only thing that makes one happier is being content; creative impulses mean literally nothing.

5. Russel aimed to start with something so simple it wasn't worth stating, and got btfo by Godel who showed his system STILL wasn't sufficient.

I could go on, but of those statement only the first, maybe fourth, and also the final one possesses any wit or truth.

He wrote so much and all anyone got out of was
>cuck
>fedora
>im a hack

>"A hallucination is a fact, not an error; what is erroneous is a judgment based upon it."
Eh, sort of. If you can say that mind makes an error in believing a hallucination, why can't you say the perceptual faculty makes an error in having it?

>A list of basic bitch truisms
So this is the power of British socialists.

I've come here for years and will continue to come here for years
because unlike you cretins I actually like being argued with instead of being pat on the back by people who agree with me.

You tell people to go back to their safe spaces, but this is ultimately your safe space, isn't it? No two of your posts can be identified. You can't be held accountable for anything you say here. If you ever contradict yourself no one will notice. And you come here to yearn for a Day of the Rope that will never come.

Pathetic.

>I can only complain about others assertions, but have nothing to assert of my own

So this is the power of Veeky Forums reactionaries who sit around jacking off to lolis and yearning for blacks and jews to die

>because unlike you cretins I actually like being argued with instead of being pat on the back by people who agree with me.

It doesn't show

>"Advocates of capitalism are very apt to appeal to the sacred principles of liberty, which are embodied in one maxim: The fortunate must not be restrained in the exercise of tyranny over the unfortunate."
Wtf, I hate libertarianism now!

My favorite brainlet moment of all time is when he wrote a history of philosophy that basically passed over Hegel as a mere blip on a radar.

hes the one making arguments. We dont have to make arguments to destroy one that doesn't even exist yet.

stop posting pretty girls they make me sad!!

>"Jealousy and possessiveness kill love."

Absolutely baffling

You still haven't responded to other post or provided any defense for Then entire history of philosophy is a joke.
I know it gets a bit specialized, but you can check his objections to Leibniz legal philosophy. Surely a read for the ages too.

Part 4

"The fundamental cause of the trouble is that in the modern world the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt." (You guys really need this one)

"Men who are unhappy, like men who sleep badly, are always proud of the fact." (You guys really need this one too)

"While it is true that science cannot decide questions of value, that is because they cannot be intellectually decided at all, and lie outside the realm of truth and falsehood. Whatever knowledge is attainable, must be attained by scientific methods; and what science cannot discover, mankind cannot know."

"If I were granted omnipotence, and millions of years to experiment in, I should not think Man much to boast of as the final result of all my efforts."

"It is only when we think abstractly that we have such a high opinion of man. Of men in the concrete, most of us think the vast majority very bad. Civilized states spend more than half their revenue on killing each other's citizens. Consider the long history of the activities inspired by moral fervour: human sacrifices, persecutions of heretics, witch-hunts, pogroms leading up to wholesale extermination by poison gases … Are these abominations, and the ethical doctrines by which they are prompted, really evidence of an intelligent Creator? And can we really wish that the men who practised them should live for ever? The world in which we live can be understood as a result of muddle and accident; but if it is the outcome of a deliberate purpose, the purpose must have been that of a fiend. For my part, I find accident a less painful and more plausible hypothesis."

"To be without some of the things you want is an indispensable part of happiness."

"I regard [religion] as a disease born of fear and as a source of untold misery to the human race."

" It is possible that mankind is on the threshold of a golden age; but, if so, it will be necessary first to slay the dragon that guards the door, and this dragon is religion."

"I found one day in school a boy of medium size ill-treating a smaller boy. I expostulated, but he replied: "The bigs hit me, so I hit the babies; that's fair." In these words he epitomized the history of the human race."

"Work is of two kinds: first, altering the position of matter at or near the earth's surface relatively to other such matter; second, telling other people to do so. The first kind is unpleasant and ill paid; the second is pleasant and highly paid."

"The idea that the poor should have leisure has always been shocking to the rich."

"Every man would like to be God, if it were possible; some few find it difficult to admit the impossibility."

"The fundamental concept in social science is Power, in the same sense in which Energy is the fundamental concept in physics."

"The "social contract," in the only sense in which it is not completely mythical, is a contract among conquerors, which loses its raison d'être if they are deprived of the benefits of conquest."

>You guys really need this one

You sure about that?

>Why come here and expect good things?
>This is MY website it's the best stop it go back to plebbit plz

Pick one you dumb faggot. Accepting that something is always going to suck without trying to improve it is learned hopelessness cuck mentality

I'd like to look at it, can't find it after a quick google search

Part 5

"Too little liberty brings stagnation, and too much brings chaos."

"The pursuit of philosophy is founded on the belief that knowledge is good, even if what is known is painful."

"Not to be absolutely certain is, I think, one of the essential things in rationality."

"Humankind has become so much one family that we cannot ensure our own prosperity except by ensuring that of everyone else. If you wish to be happy yourself, you must resign yourself to seeing others also happy." (WHATTA FUCKIN KEK)

" Do not fear to be eccentric in opinion, for every opinion now accepted was once eccentric." (KEK A DOODLE FUCKING DOO)

"If I were to suggest that between the Earth and Mars there is a china teapot revolving about the sun in an elliptical orbit, nobody would be able to disprove my assertion provided I were careful to add that the teapot is too small to be revealed even by our most powerful telescopes. But if I were to go on to say that, since my assertion cannot be disproved, it is intolerable presumption on the part of human reason to doubt it, I should rightly be thought to be talking nonsense. If, however, the existence of such a teapot were affirmed in ancient books, taught as the sacred truth every Sunday, and instilled into the minds of children at school, hesitation to believe in its existence would become a mark of eccentricity and entitle the doubter to the attentions of the psychiatrist in an enlightened age or of the Inquisitor in an earlier time."

"Obscenity is whatever happens to shock some elderly and ignorant magistrate."

"The secret of happiness is to face the fact that the world is horrible, horrible, horrible."

" And if there were a God, I think it very unlikely that he would have such an uneasy vanity as to be offended by those who doubt his existence." (Read this one twenty times, religious folks)

Its a space with its own social rules and atmosphere, you don't go to a bar and start asking people to provide axiomatic justification for their thoughts.

THAT'S IT BERT, YOU DON'T GET TO PLAY WITH THE PHENOMENA ANY LONGER, I'M TAKING THEM AWAY

Thanks for posting this, user.

Oh no.

A cuckold. How offensive. How shocking. How horrible. I'll be sure to become a Christian, desire a white ethnostate, and hate blacks and Jews now for destroying my family unit I never had in the first place. You guys are pathetic and need my help. :-)

JEWS WILL NOT REPLACE US

Glad you're seeing the light white brother

Clearly a lot of people disagree with them, so they can't be that obvious.

He didn't call them obvious he called them trite

>I'm going to assert something with no evidence and prettygirl.jpg

Color me surprised

>JEWS WILL NOT REPLACE US
Numbers don't lie.
Too bad you wasted your irony to meme against yourself.

Refute it

>"c-c-c-cukkkdkkkdf
>blonald blumpf
>back to rebblit"

look up the definition of truism

>evidence

Whats this a fucking court, call the cops lol

And let me guess. You would abandon the kids to the wolves because they aren't yours. What a great traditionalist father type you are.

>It's another thread where loser uni kids that will never accomplish anything shit on a great scholar

Something can be described as a truism if its presented as such even if its not actually a truism. You silly nigger

>he wrote so much and all anyone
>all anyone
>anyone

be honest and say "all I got out of it."
Don't presume to speak for others you dishonest piece of shit.

>You would abandon the kids to the wolves because they aren't yours

Yeah, obviously. What are you nuts

I love this picture, thanks user

Why would you ever read him if he admitted himself that Wittgenstein destroyed everything he ever wrote.
After that he's just Chomsky's low IQ cousin

Hell, you can look up his entire exposition of Leibniz here/
>archive.org/details/cu31924052172271
Trigger warning though.
I'm tempted to say that Gödel actually knowing and liking Leibniz so much was the reason he hated Russel in the first place, before btfo him in various ways.

Jokes on you, I'm actually NEET, HA!

No
I was raised by people who didn't have to raise me, and I honor them.

What do you think happened in your perfect celtic white cismale patriarch societies when half the men died of disease or died in a war?

PEOPLE WERE RAISED BY OTHERS.

You don't believe in charitable behavior that keeps society together because you're insecure about being pereeived as a "cuck" by your fellow religious white supremacist backpatters.

the absolute state of 4klan

Seriously, shitting on 1 line quotes that miss the context behind them is grade school level criticism

Durant did the same. It was probably fashionable in the Anglo world to ignore Hegel at the time.

>I was raised by people who didn't have to raise me, and I honor them.

Were you raised by two Dads user?
You can tell us, this is a safe space

thanks user. I think Godel proving what a pseud Russell was probably did more for the human species than any of Godel's theorems did

Even if you deny my understanding of the cult you've joined, they all say the same thing, what I posted.

>Why would you ever read him if he admitted himself that wittgenstein destroyed everything he ever wrote

1) He didn't admit wittgeinstein destroyed "everything" he ever wrote you hyperbole-abusing piece of dishonest shit
2) I would read him, among other things, to put Wittgeinstein in context. If Wittgeinstein built upon or refuted russel, then wouldn't it be useful to read russel to put Wiggy in context?

At any rate. It's clear where your bias stands that you find my post worth attacking but not OP's transparent "he was wrong about everything ever" propaganda

>then wouldn't it be useful to read russel to put Wiggy in context?

Russel would disagree funnily enough

No actually
I was raised by two moms
Good guess though

I guess I should've been more of a traditionalist like you and picked hetero

I would say a lack of jealousy and possessiveness kills love.

Refute it

Well he can't be right about anything

But he probably wasn't wrong about EVERYTHING as OP and his goblins assert

Damn genuinely sorry to hear that man.
Its never easy not having a male role model to understand self respect and where you come from.

I've joined a cult.

The cult of what? Holding people to reasonable standards of argumentation.

>don't be sad user. I will always love you.
>signed, your waifu

When he stayed in his cuck corner working with abstract linguistics and maths he was OK, not great but ok. Its when he ventured outside of there to talk about wider philosophy or politics that he was a pea brained lunatic

I was raised by two women

So you assume I never had any male role models? Like what? I never went to school? Never played sports? Never had uncles and shit? Are you fucking stupid?

Why is the solution to everything I say to ASSUME more things about me than you can know? Could it possibly be you aren't interested in holding yourself to any reasonable standard of argumentation? Whoops, there I go assuming things about you. Well, at least I'm willing to admit when I make a mistake.

Can we have a Brainlet Russel thready every day OP? I've thoroughly enjoyed watching butthurt atheists get upset Mr. Teapot is a legitimate pseud. I wish they would choose a decent atheist as their hero. Hume, for example.

doing his retarded rituals as proof of rationality

>the entire universe was made so that God become his own son and sacrifice himself at the height of the roman empire
REASONABLE!
>People should doubt themselves and not claim to know things until they experiment with matter and energy
PEA BRAINED LUNATIC

A consistent voice matters user. Having an ambigious mish mash of twenty seven different voices telling you different things is no replacement for the intimate and consistent guidance of a father

What were his retarded rituals exactly?

>Hume
>atheist
Bertrand, please.

Woah, Bertrand Russel invented science?

questioning religion to make scientific advancements

>OP and his goblins
Heh

I'm sorry, what scientific advancement is Russel responsible for?

He said Nietzsche was dumb

He had some interesting things to say about mathematics.
Oh, wait.

>I got indoctrinated by a pair of fat dykes since I was a baby but no, nothing to be wary of there because I played little league

> Having an ambigious mish mash of twenty seven different voices telling you different things is no replacement for the intimate and consistent guidance of a father
It takes a village to raise a kid.
But look. You're just attacking my character to avoid listening to and refuting the actual things I say.

A quick recap of our conversation so far:

You: RUSSEL WAS A KEK (and therefore wrong, I guess)
Me: Look, another 4channer is screeching cuck
You: He literally was a cuck. He raised other people's kids. Men shouldn't do that.
Me: So what if he did? Why is that wrong? Would you abandon these children?
You: Of course I would! Are you nuts?
Me: No. I just know what voluntary kindness is because I've benefited from it.
You: You must have gay dads (Again, this is something you assume to be wrong, but you won't say why)
Me: Nope. Gay moms.
You: What a loser. You didn't have a dad or male role models (assumption). I feel sorry for you. (And here you were asserting men should avoid raising children who aren't theirs... what if they're sterile?)
Me: I did have role models
You: W-w-w-well they should've been consistent!

Me: We take what we can get.

You have nothing of substance to say.

>It takes a village to raise a kid.

Objectively it does not
