Any francophone user here? I just started reading Le poète assassiné. It's a miracle. Apollinaire is miles beyond Rimbaud, Flaubert and Proust combined it's making my head spin. it's pretty funny, too
Any francophone user here? I just started reading Le poète assassiné. It's a miracle...
>Apollinaire is miles beyond Rimbaud
yeah, no
i hope you're french if you dare have an opinion on the matter. oui, miles beyond est évidement une exagération. but please do argue your case
>arguing over who is the better french poet
that's like arguing over who is the greatest Special Olympics athlete
lol
I'm not even angry at this point, i'm just sad for you user. french poetry is a pleonasm
lol no
Moi?
>Roussel, Queneau
Tu es un mec cool.
>Charlie Hebdo
Il va falloir m'expliquer.
Les Onze Mille Verges is one of the only two books I ever gave up on reading because they were so bad
Pareil.
>Charlie
It was just a silly meme friend
Queneau is legit trash
Thoughts on learning French just for the poetry? I took two years in highschool and my step family speaks it but I am not proficent
I'd imagine you'd need to be familiar with it spoken in order to sub vocalize for poetry
Idk but he's very useful in French lit papers
do it
How? He — and oulipo in general — has nothing particularly profound to say.
high school papers are not about profundity they're about finding a point and a hip name to go with it
I love your enthusiasm, Apollinaire is great but
je sais d'où tu pues
K
>OULIPO has nothing profound to say
Case in point of one of the glaring deficiencies of Veeky Forums, and of literary criticism in general: that authors have to “say” something explicitly, to pronounce some broad ideological truth in order to be relevant.
The concept of constraint has less to do with expediting particular philosophical expression than with tapping into the fundamental processes of artistic creation. Oulipians place specific barriers before the creative self in order that the individual might express himself more profoundly because those barriers provoke the egotism of his beleaguered will and incite it to transcend those boundaries. The beauty of OULIPO resides not in its particular applications but in the method itself. Calvino is your best Veeky Forums-approved example
´Miles beyond' was an exaggeration meant to convey the enthusiasm. I'll admit though that except for a few poems I admire truly I don't really get Rimbau still, or so I feel.
You’re a fucking idiot who doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Chill out, schoolboy, and move beyond your pleb taste in mediocre writers
But Calvino has something to say. A lot, actually. Not that he didn't understand what you're saying (he was friends with Manganelli after all), but his books do contain a "message".
bait
>Dude a book written without the letter e lmao
Stfu, you faggot
Pleb incarnate
pseud
I haven't thought about this deeply but I know Baudelaire hated writers who strive to teach people stuff. he said, speaking of Les misérables.
He had his thought about art like every other artist
Now now boys
Perec is one hilarious mofo tho
What have you read from him?
He wrote more art criticism than poetry
Literally everything, you dweeb
pseud
why did you read all his work if you hate him
I’ve read over 4000 books, so it’s inevitable
kek what is this reasoning
>4000
lmao what are you, an academician ?
Indeed
it's bait
You wish, pleb
Chill with your insecurity that other people have and will always have read more than you
bait
I’m hardly arguing against artists having something to say. The problem is that much of Veeky Forums, being sterile soyboy literary critics who haven’t the slightest idea of what it means to actually write literature (see ), don’t understand what it actually means to actually take abstract thought and put it onto paper in the form of a novel. That’s what OULIPO is about, not expressing any particular theory in particular.
Yeah and I understand it. What I don't get is why you used Calvino as an example.
He was too pure for the world, and strangely unpopular amongst the Veeky Forums onanists
Calvino as an example of an artist who used Oulipian methods (which aren’t inherently oriented toward any particular philosophy) in order to say something that even sterile soyboy critics would admit constitute worthwhile literature, thereby justifying OULIPO
Is there any suitable (preferably bilingual) translations of French poetry? Baudelaire & Rimbaud in particular.
reminder that french doctors have paintings of sex in the cafeteria
reminder that french surgeons finger female patients
reminder that french nurses look at the cocks of the male patients and mock them when the cocks are small
is this why the nurses were surprisingly friendly after I got my wisdom teeth removed? :-)
