I LOVED the show when I was a kid, but I forgot its name so I hadn't seen it for the last 15 years, until I remembered it about a week ago so I watched it again - it's still great desu.
I knew it was based on the 3 books, and I like reading, so I googled it and there's 22 books... The collection is like $100, Do I buy it, Veeky Forums?
Personally I would go for it since I'm a big fan of the Redwall novels but it's true that they start getting somewhat repetitive at some point.
If you're not 100% sure just borrow a few of the earlier ones from the library.
Also keep in mind that this is basically children's literature so don't expect too much.

Should I read them chronologically, or as-released?
Joshua Stewart
Your choice. I started to read them in chronological order, and while I read the first one it felt like I was missing something or there were things I was supposed to know. In the other hand, I was only 11 or 12 years old so it might have been due to that.
I would suggest you read the two first books as-released and then start to cherry pick the best ones.
