Is this the best book about the absolute horror and hell that is work? Reading this book makes me feel nauseous in the same way thinking about work does, I have to take breaks reading so I don't puke. When I think about work and how we're basically born to do forced soul-crushing labor for the majority of our lives I start shivering and then have a full on hyperventilating seizure panic attack.

While Kafka certainly is a unique and special literary figure (one of my favorites)
I’d argue that work is more of a blessing. I follow Aurelius’ view on work and labor in general.

That's cool but youre wrong, and anyway I was asking if there are any other authors that depict the hell that is work as good as Kafka. It doesn't necessarily need to be wage labor, any type of forced activity or even stuff like having to acquire food and water is fine.

what you posted isent even a book about horror. Gregor turning into a bug is not the point of the story. The point of the story is the reaction of his family, how the late prussian ethos has turned humans into automata.

I never said it was part of the 'Horror' genre, just that it is horrifying. The most horrifying thing ever written because the book contains only truth.

You’re unbelievably naive. ‘You’re wrong’ isn’t an argument. Work is not hell. What is hell is having a pseud shill his idea that work is hell. It’s not. You have the honor of working when some can’t. You can make a change in a job even if it’s infinitensmal. It is still a change. Actually be able to have intellectual discussion. Don’t be a pseudo-intellectual

>the late prussian ethos
But wasn‘t Kafka part of the K.u.K.?

>Work is not hell. What is hell is having a pseud shill his idea that work is hell. It’s not. You have the honor of working when some can’t.
>Actually be able to have intellectual discussion. Don’t be a pseudo-intellectual

If work is hell just shift your mindset. If that doesn’t work maybe you really are useless at work and that’s why it’s hell. Just an hero

I already informed you were wrong and I only bothered to read the first sentence of this post and it seems to be same thing so you can leave this thread or preferably board now

I just want you to actually argue your point and support it. If you can’t do that then you’re clearly a brainlet

I consider it the anti-thesis to Camus's Myth of Sisyphus.

I've noticed that some people (such as you) have this very strange and contradictory mindset where it's ok to blame society for some things but then when it comes to things you disagree with it you start talking about how it's solely the individuals fault but this doesn't make any sense because if you apply the mindset of the first example then society should have culpibality for everything and these are just delusions of agency. I think is a form of defensive mechanism in order to reinforce their position in the hierarchy and stop people from changing social paradigms that would depress their fitness

*this is

I don’t blame society for anything. I never even alluded to such. I believe that most things lie solely on personal responsibility. (Of course there are exceptions such as an absuive childhood making someone be more inclined to be violent. You can’t control the parents but you control your choice to be violent). Most things fall onto the individual. If you hate work that’s your choice. But instead of saying ‘work is hell’ ‘soul crushing’. Maybe determine what exactly makes work like that (without being melodramatic and acting as if your forced to work). Find the root of the issue and work towards fixing the issue to make your life better.

you are a robot slave who has been bred over millennia to stammer your programmed phrases as you just have. Also you have no choice in the matter, so to ease your suffering you have sided with your inescapable fate, a shrugging of the shoulders, theres no use in complaining about the constant rape of your ass because there is no other options and nothing you can do, might as well learn to celebrate, might as well enjoy pushing the stone up and all

>I believe that most things lie solely on personal responsibility.

WOOOOOOOOO user COMING IN HERE WITH THE BIG LAUGHS SWWOOOOSH RIGHT IN THE BASKET SOMEONE GIVE DIS BOI A TROPHY

Maybe before making assumptions you understand my position. I don’t work. I’m jobless as of right now. I have never felt raped because when you apply to a job or are offered one, it’s your choice to partake in something larger than yourself. Even if it’s making fucking fast food. You’re getting paid to do a minor task. If you work hard enough in becoming educated you can do marvelously grand things. Such as cyber defense, teaching, innovation in enterprises, etc. There are plenty of options besides work. You can be nomadic. You could live on a self sustaining commune. I just personally don’t like bitching about my current situation. But revel in the fact that I can change it any time I wish. Bitching accomplishes nothing. If you don’t want to work, don’t. If you do, then do it. But in either case. Understand why you want to, or don’t want to.

I make 500k a year as an engineer, the average week of my life is more luxurious and enjoyable than most kings of history put togethers life. And I get to constantly have fun solving problems, making solutions, working with my hands, getting exercise, body and brain, interesting and rewarding discussion and debates with friendly and inspiring colleagues old and new, travel the world, positively impact humanity every day, come home to a home made of heaven, and a hot wife waiting by the door with lingeried ass in air

The benefits of work

it's a comedy

I'm not interesting in arguing not every thread is amateur debate club hour I was just curious if the Fine Minds over here at Lit had any recommendations for books about the psychological aspects of labor. Kafka and to some degree Pessoa are the only ones who really capture it correctly.

Why are you arguing with OP when he's too damaged to even form a proper defence? You can never win against someone who is too stupid or arrogant to realize when they're wrong.

You can’t argue your point because you don’t even have a full grasp on it. At least try to understand your own views and be able to justify your values

You’re right.
It’s just sad to see someone with such a misguided view. Not only that, but someone who can’t even defend their beliefs.

No I'm just not interested in arguing Do You Have Any Reccomendations..? Hmmm..? Hmmm..?

yeah but your whole life is scripted, yeah you can take off a day and week here or there, but pretty much your entire life is set in stone planned out ahead of you, the same unwavering pattern, the same conformed demand, continual base predictable boring mindnumbing repetition, no escape, youve lived one day youve lived them all, it expects you to be present and prepared, no excuses, expectations expected to be met, surmounting pressure, get our slice of joy in this hour, and the next, because that is all you get, back to work, no time to rest

I'm a man now. I am posting this to steer younger, easily influenced and sensitive loners away from the path that leads to nihilism, solipsism, narcissism, and eventually suicide (literal or figurative). Want to know what I'm wearing right now? Sure you do. I'm wearing baggy beige cotton slacks with a black belt looped pretty tight. I'm wearing a white shirt that I ironed last night with each cuff rolled back two times. I am wearing black cotton socks. This is how I dress now. Problem? Thought not. I cut my hair not necessarily short but neat and, most importantly, to a consistent style. I am a reliable guy now. I smile. I converse. I work hard. I don't complain. I now shake the hand that feeds me, instead of biting it. I vote for fiscally conservative politicians. I jog. I eat healthy meals. I work out, sure. When I smile at pretty young women I do so in a paternal, kindly way which expresses ZERO sexual desire. I leave the office when my work is finished, not when the clock tells me I'm legally allowed to escape. I use clear, formal language. I cal my mother. I donate to charity each month. I give blood. I don't care if the woman I might potentially date has had one or even several sexual and / or romantic partner before me. What business is it of mine? I no longer watch pornography. I haven't had an erection in weeks in fact. I don't strain when I defecate. I floss. I whistle in public. I wake up early and eat a slow breakfast. I go to bed before 11pm every night. I am turning my back on Veeky Forums and heading for pastures new because that is what is right at my age. I am a man now. The future is going to be one hell of a ride. And I'm strapped in and ready to go.

There are so many variations from one day to the next. Work isn’t always doing the exact same thing. For instance. In the military (intelligence jobs aremy example) you will shift what your very job is. You could go from translation, to targeting, to managing a group of people, to interrogations during deployment. Even if you work for the same group or company, your work and tasks will change. So no. It’s not the same thing forever until you die. As far as recommendations go, I’m more apt to reccomend life is shit books for you. Conspiracy against the human race by Ligotti
The Road by McCarthy (though it has a shine of optimism)
Requiem for a Dream (for people working to have a better life but drowning in addiction)

As sad as it is, that represents the majority of modern society. The only thing you can do is just not challenge people like that, as messed up as that is to say. People like that do not grow from confrontation, it only gives them a platform to spout their nonsense and reinforces their beliefs through defense.

I applaud you! Your life is what it’s supposed to be. Honorable and desirable. Good for you. More on this site should aspire to live in such a way.

>There are so many variations from one day to the next. Work isn’t always doing the exact same thing
for many people it is tho...and they dont get paid anywhere near 500k
the average person makes like 40k a year or less, doing robotic slave labor a retarded monkey could do if it wasnt such a trouble to breed them all and keep them well behaved

Man, what a superficial reading of this text. It’s like you get all your analyses from Tumblr and reddit

You would actually bring up jobs in military intelligence as something even remotely possible for someone with a soul? Sure, working can be fine but some people have principles too.

It’s more than possible for people who don’t sit around complaining that work is ‘soul crushing’. One of my largest points is that complaining does absolutely nothing. It’s better to work in a modern society than to not.
What principles has OP shown besides complaining that life will be tough sometimes and to live in modern society you are needed more so at a job to contribute. If it’s not what you desire I offered him alternatives

>Is this the best book about the absolute horror and hell that is work?
Nope

>I haven't had an erection in weeks in fact.
You are doing fine, but...this? Why?

who are you quoting and why is it yourself?

spook thread

Haha, OP,you missed the biggest point and that is that men since the day they are born are condemned to PASSIVITY, that's the TRUE HORROR. That's why Gregor tried to go to work even though he wasn't human anymore.

>join the military
>having principles
No

No

You forget that some people actually have some higher virtues like honor and integrity and would rather die than be a slave and work for an employer. You're no better than a cotton picking nigger, I however am like the Indians, who faced excruciating torture yet still refused to submit and ve enslaved.

I was more referring to the awful things you would be required to do if you had a job of that nature. Not like "this sucks, work is hard," but "this is morally reprehensible."

Is this a copypasta?

Yes

when you transcend sexuality and become one with the nodual sexless nature of the purity of absolute matter and spirit, it becomes as if eons might pass and you may not even realize you have a dick

You’re not water boarding or torturing so? What morally rephresible things are you referring to? You clearly have zero first hand experience on the matter

Having ‘higher honor’
using the word nigger
Stop bullshitting
