The success we have predates the welfare state and we had our most successful period between 1850 and 1950. After the emergence of the welfare state the trend started to shift for the negative. If you're genuinely interested in this and actually want to learn more, I highly suggest checking out the book "Scandinavian Unexceptionalism" by Nima Sanandaji. You can download the book in pdf if you just Google "Scandinavian unexceptionalism pdf" and click on the first link that appears. His other book "Debunking Utopia" is also worth a read if you want to dive more deeply into the state and affairs of Sweden.
