fiction

You realize there's literally a cuckoo clock in one scene

is that good or bad?

Shakespeare based a lot of it on his readings of Livy, but even then he fictionalizes it a fair amount. For example, Marc Antony's funeral oration actually took place a few days after the murder, at Caesar's official funeral.

Its not v. historically accurate either way

It is a dramatization which is a masterpiece of English screenplay. What is the point of the question? Its not like Shakespeare claimed it was anything more than a historically inspired story.

If you want to pick a fight choose SPQR by Mary Beard, that is some Pop History passed off as real history.

memes aside this one was good too

did Mark Anthony really say this? (and which is better?)

the second

Brutus' Antony is way better

But saucy Casca from the Heston version is the best fucking Casca I've ever seen, even though it's truncated

When he says
>...'twas Greek to me
I want to be mad that they chopped up the actual Shakespeare, but honestly, the actor playing saucy Casca was so fucking saucy it just worked perfectly

Oops I mean Brando's Antony is way better

He gets Antony's character more IMHO, the pardon me thou bleeding piece of earth speech is way better

Heston seemed too shallow, like Antony was just ambitious and cunning or something. But Brando got that weird murky duality of Antony, the ambition mixed with actual reverence for Caesar, which is really the best part of Shakespeare's writing anyway, how the characters aren't just ideal types emblematic of some trait or tragic flaw but fathomlessly superhumanly complex but also somehow recognizably human

it kind of goes to shit when his lover appears but picks back up when he goes away

I-I wanna fuck Antinous' boipucci!
Also fuck Jews and their mangled dicks polluting the bath houses.

brando, looks better, but slurstutters some words, I think heston gives a better performance, though not entirely made fair by the color and grand set appearance and clothes:also the longer length of the film clip.

You could not be more wrong

What does Veeky Forums think of Titus Andronicus

It's a standard Elizabethan revenge play stuffed with lovely guro, punters at the time went ape shit over that stuff, couldn't get enough. Pretty sure he'd be wondering what the fuck is going when people nowadays try to claim it's high art.
I love the film version of it, it's so deliciously camp at the final dinner scene.

that casca performance is very great, and now I must agree with those that say shakespeare only read and not seen is incomplete. What a great production. and you are right he does get the character better, more stoic, certain, self ssured, bold, not as flimsy, frantic, dramatic, hysteric...though I dont think I am wrong in enjoying and appreciating the heston performance, and that it was perfectly passionate, theatrical, and real

does the speech mean to imply: brutus was not an honorable man?

also the humor of the line: faithful and just to me..

>guro
what is guro?

You have to go back.
