Greatest fantasy books ever written?

Can you people please give me some fantasy book recommendations. I'm looking for more books to read and I want to get carried away into a new interesting world with heaps of back story/history, good detail, good characters etc...

I've read most Veeky Forums fantasy books and sagas (including BotNS, which I absolutely loved and is probably a close second), but for me, pic related will always have the title of greatest fantasy book ever written

How come terry pratchett hasn't been named yet.
He built one of the most glorious and consistent world. All features in his worlds are really creativ and depict our world, but always with a minor twist that has huge implications.

Tolkien.
Or lately I'm really feeling David Gemmell.

this has become sort of a meme at this point, but it really is unironically the best fantasy series by far
though i will admit that is not saying a whole lot when compared to literary fiction (yes i'm a snob who shits on genrefic)
that being said, it really is good when you desire a fantasy fix, though it starts quite slow and is somewhat difficult
do NOT give up before pic relate (Book 3)
if you still don't like it after Book 3, then give up, but you will like, a lot

Kill yourself.

A Song of Ice and Fire (aka Game of Thrones) is the best series I've read regardless of genre.

If you watched the TV series first, you screwed yourself.

His world building was ok but could have made it more interesting.
