I've read 6-10 hours a day for a year, ran 5km every day in 25 minutes and meditated for half an hour every day. I've restricted access to the internet/electronics for only 1 hour a day.
My attention span is still shit, I read proper books at 10 pages an hour genre fiction at around 15 pages an hour.
Whenever I read moderately complex sentences (i.e something that isn't just >He killed the brown dog.) I have to read them 3 times and then move onto the next one and subvocalise the entire sentence about 3 times before moving on.

I read moby dick at a rate of 6 to 12 pages an hour, mostly 6-8 pages an hour.
Blood meridian was around 8-12 pages an hour.
For some reason I've actually gotten slower since then, I'm reading heart of darkness at a rate of 6 pages an hour. Whenever I look at a sentence the words are so familiar to me I just can't parse their meaning, its like my brain refuses to do anything even though I'm scanning words I've seen thousands of times before with my eyes.
How do I read 20 pages an hour? How do I get the text to flow like it did in my childhood? I remember up until 13 I could finish books (airport fiction) in one day and never lose the meaning of the words, now every other few sentences at most and my mind just goes blank, I struggle a little, then all of a sudden I'm back to understanding for a second then it goes again, the prose stops flowing and I have to regress even though I just subvocalised the entire sentence (I can't understand if I don't).

How do I increase my attention span? I deprived myself of sensory overload for this long and it hasn't done anything, I just got even more agitated and bored and slower at reading. So slow, so unbelievably slow, some days I would get up, run, meditate and then proceed to just stare at a page for a good while before finally getting going, reading at a rate of 10 pages an hour. The prose translation of the iliad with its simple syntax and generally no difficulty at all took me 5 hours to read around 40 pages, all the while my attention span going in and out, sometimes I could get a paragraph done, then a second later back to one sentence a millennia and a second later I just fall asleep

I'm 21 years old and english is my first language

At least you're trying.

But i also think you're lying

ohh girls are so cute and fun and this one atleast was interested owhh its sunday morning and theres that pallid light streaming in you know just be dark already i cant bear it

Can't you just enjoy the ride you fucking nugget?

>At least you're trying.
I think my brain is cemented in its ways, I can remember what I read but I can't read like a normal person. Most people here read challenging works at 30-50 pages an hour and only philosophy brings them down to 10 pages an hour.
Which part is it you think is a lie?
>Can't you just enjoy the ride you fucking nugget?
I enjoy books its just I feel I would enjoy them more if I didn't have to regress a dozen times every other sentence and only read 10 pages an hour.

Learn another language. English is so fucking boring and monotonous, try Spanish or Italian. Literally almost any other language will feel more fluid and words will materialize easier.

Let me give you some advice buddy, you are taking pseud standards as the norm. Does gulping down a glass of good wine increase the flavour? You are doing fine, just relax.

Idk mate, if after a year my reading was stalled at 10 pages a HOUR I'd be losing my mind.

OP I will say this. The LSAT has a reading comprehension portion which is for many the most difficult. Why? Because it takes years to build and improve reading comprehension and isn't something you can force down. Suggestions I heard for improvement all tied in with difficult reading or reading magazines such as the economist etc

Where did you get this webm? I know this person in real life. Wolf

Ps, it's the acid, weed, and coffee.

Do you subvocalize?

Read what he said again, the reason he reads that slow is because he wants to comprehend each word and line. He himself claims that he retains most of what he reads. It is quality over quantity.

shes so cute. i wish i didnt take part in cyberbullying her because i hate myself

This seems like something that should warrant a visit to the doctor. If you were always like this, I'd just chalk you up as having a disability, but if your ability to read has actually gotten worse since childhood, it sounds like something is seriously wrong.

remember when we BTFO this PSEUD WHORE. lmao that was hilarious. Wee made her DELETE ALL HER VIDEOS ROFL

What are you guys talking about? I Know this girl IRL. What is the story?

I don't take any of those
I subvocalise everything
A doctor(gp) wouldn't do anything, I can't get a specialist because I'm neet, surely this is a common enough problem that would be easy enough to fix by myself?

Is her response video to us still UP?

Sounds like you're just a brainlet.

Seriously, I hung out with her a few times last year. She recommended Ben Lerner and Tao Lin to me. I haven't been on Veeky Forums in ages so this is extremely interesting.

I have similar problems with reading, I feel like I mentally fucked myself by focusing on it to the degree that I focus on it. I started just trying to read at different times in the day, make an effort to only care about my feelings at the end instead of my understandings at th end, try reading in different mental states, etc. Stuff like that. Try to make reading something that will affect you emotionally and you are seeking the understanding of that and not the understanding of the words.

I actually study languages as a hobby, speak 4 now and learning a little more (slowly and its being pushed off but still have an interest), and I have the same problem at times when trying to study/listen/read in other languages. I partially think my language obsession caused the start of degredation of my reading comprehension, since I spent 6+ hours a day thinking about words and their meanings, having some get mixed up, only being able to remember a word in one language at a time, etc. I don't have an outstanding memory to start with, and I think my anxiety about it initiated some self-fulfilling prophecy

We just watched all her videos and made fun of how stupid she is. We made fun of her eating disorder and how she used to try to be a model and couldn't cut it because of her fucked up head. Then we found her pseud blog and tumbler and made fun of her writing. Then we found her manlet boyfriend and made fun of him and he tweeted how he wanted to kill us lmao.

her video on baudrillard got posted here and we called her a pseud enough times that she stopped making videos

Oh okay. She's nice in real life. Good taste in books. lonely tho

the only way to get over this is to accept that you won't grasp everything. you're autistically re-reading the same sentences over and over again hoping to understand every nook and cranny and that's preventing you from being able to flow through the book at a steady pace. it's like pausing and rewatching every scene from a david lynch film. you end up forgetting what happened 3-4 scenes ago and end up more lost than you would've been had you just let it run all the way through without pause.

Have you tried amphetamines?

>Oh okay. She's nice in real life. Good taste in books. lonely tho

You guys are monsters.

>lonely tho
I DONT WANT TO HEAR ABOUT HOW LONELY BEAUTIFUL GIRLS ARE FUCK OFF IVE SEEN HER TALK SHE CAN NEVER BE TRULY LONELY OHH PO-- AAAAAA

I have the same problem as you OP and I have been thinking that it might have to do with my need to understand every single word. Perhaps normal people don't reread thngs just because they dont understand a sentence because they can pick up the meaning in the next sentences. This is what I do when I listen to stuff at least.

>on baudrillard
>
are you mistaking an internet macro meme image for reading baudrillard too? post feet qt :3

>taking 25 mins to run a 5k
I think you start there. Any perfectly born human under the age of 30 should be able to do a 5k in under 20.

I'd give it a 33% chance that she actually did break up with that manlet of hers not too long after we came around her yt channel.
Would have been funnier if she kept doing her ramblings videos, which she said all they were, and been okay with bunh of lonely users overtly scrutinize her attempts at something new and fun.
Still hilarious though.

This. Arabic was my first language but im way better at english when it comes to speaking, reading, and writing, however i still find it easier to understand when I read in arabic, english is only convienent to speak, apart from that i prefer any other language

Have you tried listening to audiobooks while reading, you'll be going at a faster rate and at the same time understanding more
