I saw that Bill Gates said his "the better angels of our nature" was the best/most important book he'd ever read, until reading his latest book, "enlightenment now". and thats a pretty strong endorsement from a pretty smart bastard

Clearly Bill Gates is a well-read guy, but he is not a specialist in most of the subjects he reads about. Sometimes he reads stuff that is really elementary or inaccurate and is really impressed, so he recommends it.
This is one of these cases. Steven Pinker is not respected in his field, and his book is not one worth reading if you're actually interested in the topic.
Also his dismissal of Culture of Critique without having read it really says something about the guy.

His book was good the Tabula Rasa. Very scientific, it's a pop science book for modern psychological discoveries basically. Specially interesting was the part on identical twins separated at birth and how upbringing seems to have less than a 10% of influence amongst people in a similar culture, the rest being genetic and environmental (your peers, school, random events in your life etc..)

I met Stephen Pinker at the National Academy of Sciences. He was receiving an award along with my friend, a statistician, who gave a presentation on mortality. Pinker stood up at the end and started grilling him, clearly not understanding the presentation, and ended up sitting down after being told that his main objection had indeed been factored in to the statistical model. In the lobby after the presentation I accidentally brushed past him to get some fruit punch and unintentionally thrust him aside with some force (I'm a big guy). Rather than demand an apology, he looked down and quickly walked away.

If you don't know what Chomsky has done for linguistics then I don't really want to waste my time explaining it to a completely uninformed audience.

Its possible for a year to have no terrorist attack deaths and its possible to have thousands, and there is no way to predict what number it will be in a given year.
