Not for any noble goal. I just like it.

I look hot on the train. There's no actual text in the hardcover classics I read. It's usually snippets of some retro Playboy I ordered. But, I do get the gander of some qt's whilst I am half-mast from the lewds.

it's unironically the best board
little tolerance for /pol/, no porn, no flags, good memes, fun discussion with pseuds and autists alike

I want to understand where this fucked up ride is going and my place on it. Fiction I just read for fun desu unless it relates to my grad studies (Russian/Soviet history)

I'm pretty sure he meant "Why do you read, Veeky Forums?" (note the comma)

I could be wrong though

>little tolerance for /pol/
but full of unironic communists
>good memes
they can be good but not enough for my taste, probably because Veeky Forums is a text heavy and slow moving board.

>my grad studies (Russian/Soviet history)
have fun being poor XD *becomes a mathematicians* *collects my $200k starting*

>unironic communists
As opposed to ironic ones like Zizek or something?

>but full of unironic communists
If you don't think capitalism isn't fundamentally flawed, you're deluding yourself.

>probably because Veeky Forums is a text heavy and slow moving board.
Jesus, that's sad. Is this what happens to capitalists? Always needing to be stimulated? Maybe you could try . It may be more to your tastes.

it makes me feel smart and special. everyone eventually figures out that philosophy is worthless and a dead end.

>full of unironic communists
maybe a few years ago senpai, I can't remember the last time we had a real thread discussing marxism

sick burn dude. That would be true maybe if I was in some shitty state school but I'm not and most of the people in my (small) dept get job placements with decent salaries so, also doesn't hurt to be fluent in a language of the country that's supposedly trying to hax our democracy

>mathematicians
>making money

>If you don't think capitalism isn't fundamentally flawed, you're deluding yourself.
when did I say that? nice strawman faggot. Veeky Forums is a post left reactionary board. Don't let the door hit you on the way out back to lebbit.
I specifically didn't say Marxism for this reason, they're not the same thing. I enjoy Marx and acknowledge his influence is indispensable.

Thoughts on pic related? I have to read it for a course on 1917 Revolution. Also, what do you think of Trotsky's history?

Because I fear the pull of history and I believe that knowledge can help me break free of it.

Because when I don't read I want to kill myself.

Because TV irritates me and makes me feel like I'm living in the Brave New World, which is why my taste is deliberately eclectic--I fear that by conforming my ability to think clearly will be compromised.

there are always anti-capitalists around but that's good desu, as long as they aren't tankies it's good to have diversity of opinion across the spectrum
if this place was like Veeky Forums with it's overabundance of reactionaries and neocons it wouldn't be as fun

>Because I fear the pull of history and I believe that knowledge can help me break free of it
Have you read The Tunnel?

Solid survey, it gets some hate but I'm a fan. I mostly focus on cultural/art history so I'm not the most qualified person to speak about that topic, but if you want a more fleshed out survey on the Revolution you can't go wrong with Figes (despite the fact that he sperged out online writing bad reviews of other scholars on Amazon under a pseudonym, pretty sad and funny at the same time). If you want some recs for cultural history of the revolutionary/Stalinist period (and how they're closely interrelated despite western misconceptions fueled by Trotskyist memers) I would check out Clark's The Soviet Novel: History as Ritual (pretty essential) and Groys' Total Art of Stalinism (not essential but entertaining and provocative af). Not a fan of Trotsky because he attempts to whitewash the Leninist project and pretend like it would have had a utopian outcome if he had only led the way.

anti capitalist =/= communist
holy shit you lot are dense

>it's good to have diversity of opinion across the spectrum
Not really. Everyone ought to have the same opinions on what's good for humanity so that we all can effectively cooperate for a greater cause.

>Everyone ought to have the same opinions on what's good for humanity so that we all can effectively cooperate for a greater cause.
I too reject moral relativism and think we ought maintain some universal ethics. Diversity of opinions is a different matter however, a diversity of thought is very important.

How can you know what the greater cause is if no one contests your views?
It means you become unable to reaffirm your ideas and you'll never be certain if they're the right ones. Having someone to argue against you is always a good thing.

no you

you're right, this mongolian bask weaving forum is definitely the place for humanitarian cooperation

No, why

books are the only place where my mind feels alive.

In the town where I have to work there is nothing else to do besides getting drunk. I go to the city on weekends.

I am only myself when immersed in a book. Everything about life terrifies and disturbs and upsets me constantly. But when I read I feel I understand myself and the world.

my mind feels most alive when I have 3+ windows with 40 Veeky Forums tabs open, constantly checking between them
if I read for too long without browsing here I end up with a narrow view of the world and I start to take things too literally

>my mind feels most alive when I have 3+ windows with 40 Veeky Forums tabs open, constantly checking between them
h-heh.....

I want to be the next Napolean

To be the man I wanted my father to be.

Enjoyment.

lmao he's the kid who didn't read the book but had a report due so he googled some obscure blog in the hope the teacher wouldn't notice

we haven't figured out what the correct view is user, clearly its not democratic capitalism, clearly its not communism, clearly its not fascism, so we still require a diverse group of people on this board to delineate what it is we all need to understand

Makes me look smart

My dick is small and I have to compensate

>clearly its not communism
>implying

to be superior to the people in my past and immediate surroundings, and as a larger abstraction, to normies

t. Nietzsche's resentful man

For big brain gains

not that guy but
>heavily implied

Me too user.

Came here to post this

Why not?

it is the only distraction I allow myself. I fool myself into believing I gain anything from it

Why do you fags always assume /pol/ is pro capitalist?

All the snek flags. And those who are "nat soc" are LARPing idiots. Hitlerian fascism is pro-capitalist, and I don't see many Strasserists from /pol/.

1: to digest the thoughts of others
2: to compare their mastery of language with my own

honestly, these two points are in practice, one reason

>adjectivizing Hitler
He is not worthy.

Cause it’s like exactly about what you’re interested in

Are we talking the Gass or Sabato one?

Gass

I don't know honestly. Partly to overcome the existential ennui and become, partly because I'm searching for that missing piece of my life. And I would have to be grossly dishonest if I didn't admit I started doing it to "become smarter". You know where these 3 overlap.

I'm a discerning gentleman, a connosuier of the greatest and highest

i think its good for me, i see it as a productive way to spend my time since i'm not creative in the slightest

I want to be smart enough to make a difference in the world
