ITT: God Tier Jr high school books

...

>implying women can write anything God-tier

t. brainlet

Fuckin love this book

Catcher In The Rye. All the other answers are bad.

Catcher in the Rye was god tier??

...

Demi-god tier.
Franny and Zooey is god-tier.

Yes that book was excellent. I nominate pic related

Where the red fern grows. Might be more grade school though

I went from hating my dad to respecting him because of this book. I sad some dumb shit to him as a teenager that I regret

Said*

I actually thought this book was terribly written.

I agree with this one.

...

Absolutely red-pilled book, started teaching kids all around the world to be wary of cummunism from the age of 10

No offense, but I was under the impression that everybody knew that Catcher In The Rye was pure and utter horseshit.
Im not trying to get into in depth critique or talk about subtext or how the story just reflects society/politics blah blah blah.
Its this simple; I read the book, it was garbage.
Obviously people are entitled to like it, I understand but I just fail to see how anyone could enjoy pure vomit.

No offense, but how could you assume that when it's been read for 60 years? Were people reading it as an example of bad literature?

Im not disputing that. Its been read for such a long time for a reason. It clearly has some profound literary importance. Im just saying that I dont understand why.
Its not like I dont get the book, its not that complex. But to me it is blatantly obvious that its a horrendous book and simply a bore to read.
Also, Holden is a cunt.

It’s a coming of age story

I fucking hated Catcher in the Rye, but granted, I haven't read it since I was in middle school. As a kid I didn't care much for the Outsiders, but it certainly grew on my as I got a little older and kind of "got it" more.

Books that I actually enjoyed during high/middle school include The Great Gatsby, Fahrenheit 451, The Taming of the Shrew, To Kill a Mockingbird, Romeo and Juliet and Dracula.

Okay.....
That doesnt change the fact that its a boring story with quite possibly the most obnoxious main character ever.
Its generally unenjoyable.

I'm sure he respected you back when you came to see what he's done for you

You sound like kind of a cunt too. Usually people who dislike the book see traits that they despise in themselves in the main character.

No offense

It's kinda a meta narrative, you think the main character is a cunt is you being like the main character

Shit that was meant for

Oh, well now that I've got your specialist take on things I guess that wraps it up nicely.

You clown.

I've read it more than ten times since I was 17. It's a pretty great book and I guess you just can't feel all of its ennui.

Meta narrative?
Please mate.
Did you ever consider the fact that Salinger just wrote a poor story, nothing more and people like you read into things that AREN'T FUCKING THERE????
Because thats a possibility.

It's not really about the "story," as Catcher in the Rye isn't a storybook

Thats good man, Im glad you enjoyed it. Really. Im not saying you shouldnt.
I personally just dont understand why its hailed as a classic.

Yes I've thought of that, t.b.h I don't actually like catcher in the rye as much as other books about assholes

Fair point.

stay golden pony boy

Awwwww fuck I remember this book

The thing is, if you go into the book looking for a plot, you won't find it. You can summarize it very succinctly: boy gets expelled, decides to go back to the city before his parents find out. it's the same with other great books like Crime & Punishment: dude decides to kill an old lady, does the deed, regrets it while being chased by GOAT Porfiri.
I'm and the reason why I like the book is that I really enjoy Holden's banter. He is a whiny fag, but he's a pretty observant guy. I remember some of them very clearly, I'll give you an example. He talks about a poor boy, his roommate, who didn't have money to buy a really good suitcase. Holden would always hide his own suitcase (which happened to be a premium leather one) so his roommate wouldn't feel insecure about it. Turns out the boy would put the suitcase on Holden's bed and pretend he actually owned it. This is a pretty funny remark to make and a powerful one, too. Holden also talked about how he got 'blue as hell' when he saw two nuns begging for money with a wicker basket. He also got moved when the prostitute came up to his room and stuff.

People say Holden is obnoxious, but when I think of these examples I can't help but truly relate to this guy. Yes, he likes to call people phony, complain about minor stuff and act like a retard towards Sally Hayes. But he also cares about his little sister. He loves a girl and yet will refuse to hit her up, preferring to feel jealous as fuck for his friend and remember when they used to play checkers. I guess what I'm trying to say is: if you can somehow get past Holden's assholeness, you will enjoy the book a lot more for these touching moments.

...

this is more late elementary, but still kino

I never thought I would see those books on lit...

>Also, Holden is a cunt.
Opinion disregarded.

All Quiet on the Western Front is one of my favourite titles of a book.

t. Jealous a 15 year old girl wrote a better novel then he ever will

...

...

Catcher in the Rye is the ultimate pleb filter

sorry you couldn't understand a story for high schoolers

...

I understood that it sucked balls.
And it says a lot about you if you enjoyed it.
"Awww, Holden just want to get home. He just wants to fit into society. Awww he reflects me and my less favourable traits. Awwww, its brilliant."

Assclowns.
Its a shit book.
Horribly written.
Completely unlikeable.
But because its down in history as a classic everyone wants to be on the fuckin bandwagon.
Well whoop-dee-fuckin-doo, you are just another name in the club of "lets like something because its the popular opinion".
God forbid you have an original thought, you dense peasant.

I remember not being impressed as a kid. I remember a lot of the other kids being blown away. I don't know if it's worth the re-read.

But your opinion is undoubtedly the most commonly seen one nowadays. I enjoyed the book as a middle schooler with no prior knowledge of its reputation, I just saw it at the library and liked the cover so I read it. Rereading bits of it now I'd say it holds up pretty well. It's just a book about a kid, and stylistically quite readable and engaging. It's certainly not Ulysses or anything, but it's a pretty good portrait of a modern young man.

Okay. I feel like I'm fighting a losing battle! So okay! Fair point bruh

But a pretty good portrait of a modern young man it is not.

Omg I remember being forced to read this garbage.

...

Whats up bruh?!

This is why I like Notes From Underground. Besides the narrator's autism at dinner his banter is on point.

It was simplistic but I remember liking it back then.
