For the Christian, the sacred doctrine is revealed theology; for the Jew and the Muslim, the sacred doctrine is...

>For the Christian, the sacred doctrine is revealed theology; for the Jew and the Muslim, the sacred doctrine is, at least primarily the legal interpretation of the Divine Law ( talmud or fiqh ). The sacred doctrine in the latter sense has, to say the least, much less in common with philosophy than the sacred doctrine in the former sense. It is ultimately for this reason that the status of philosophy was, as a matter of principle, much more precarious in Judaism and in Islam than in Christianity: in Christianity philosophy became an integral part of the officially recognized and even required training of the student of the sacred doctrine….The precarious position of philosophy in the Islamic-Jewish world guaranteed its private character and therewith its inner-freedom from supervision. The status of philosophy in the Islamic-Jewish world resembled in this respect its status in classical Greece.

Is he right?

Basically

Strauss should only be read in the light of a mature conception of the stakes of discussing political theology, and then with severe suspicion

Fascinating!

Mostly correct except for this:
>The precarious position of philosophy in the Islamic-Jewish world guaranteed its private character and therewith its inner-freedom from supervision
Which is giving kikes and their cat's paw cousins whom they always let in the door once they gain power more "deepness" than they really have.

Strauss literally believed that for a society to function properly, there should be a secretive (Jewish) cabal that would control the (gentile) masses.

So just a hush hush tikkun olam which all jews are told to work towards anyway.

This is such a massive generalization where exceptions are all over the place. There's Philo of Alexandria, not to mention Ram-Fucking-Bam as early Jewish figures influenced by philosophy. And Christianity has had plenty of discomfort with the status of "pagan" philosophy. Strauss once again being a pleb

>categorizing people by their religions instead of by the Cultures they belong to
>implying Christians, specifically Protestants, don't view the Bible as the Divine Law which is to be interpreted
>implying the Catholic philosophers who contributed to "sacred doctrine" didn't also see the writings which became the Bible as the final arbiter on any matter, and didn't derive their positions from these writings

The early Christians were pretty much the only ones who actually had theology revealed to them, and they were almost all Jews. The reason Christianity got it's "philosophical" bent is primarily because Westerners became Christian.

>The precarious position of philosophy in the Islamic-Jewish world guaranteed its private character and therewith its inner-freedom from supervision. The status of philosophy in the Islamic-Jewish world resembled in this respect its status in classical Greece.
This is some grade-A bullshit; Jewish and Islamic "philosophy" is just fucking legalistic quibbling and while the Jews don't really care about anything outside of their legalism the Muslims have been accusing people who think outside the box of apostasy for as long as Islam has existed. Christianity avoided that particular pitfall but it didn't help much; until the greeks were resurrected it was pretty weak.

Why didn't the muslims, who conquered the byzantine empire, resurrected the greeks?

They did, kalam was basically neo-Aristotelianism

>philosophy in classical Greece was in a "precarious position"
what a pseud

>Pharisee and Muhammaden heresies are empty jurispudence
He's not wrong

Kalam is shirk you dirty kuffar

t. Ahmad ibn Hanbal

Listen here you kalb. The Quran is pre-existent, eternal, and uncreated. According to the philosophy of metaphysics those are qualities of God and would therefore make the Quran a type of god or co-equal to God. However we know that God is strictly monotheistic, one and indivisible. Therefore philosophy is wrong and anyone who practices it is guilty of apostasy.

The absolute state of goatfuckers.

Go to sleep, Al-Ghazali.
