Because the exact number is false. There wasn't even 6 million Jews in Europe at the time. Gassing 12 million people to death was utterly impossible and pointless. It was much more likely that they died due to starvation or disease after the allies crippled German supply lines. Not point in feeding slave labourers when you can barely feed your own soldiers.
