made them worse, you'll never meet a religious person with exceptionally cultivated taste in art, nor will you meet hedonistic know-nothing bugs with good taste in art. The divine eye, the seer's eye, the ability to turn oneself towards the form of beauty, this is only available to a rare breed of human. One in ten million

How did converting to Orthodoxy change your artistic taste? How did it change your life? Any advice for catechumen?

I realised I unironically like opera when I returned to the faith. But it really shouldn’t need to change that much about you.

for me, conversion cemented my turbulation into european conservatism that went on for at least a decade. once i got baptised, i definitely felt relieved, but i knew my work to become a better person wasn't finished. coming to a state of grace is a lifelong process.

the one immediate effect i noticed is that i experience christian paintings and sculptures in ways i never had before; way different from the jaded, at best analytical, mode you're in when you tour a museum.

Let me guess: you’re one of that breed?

while i support conversion to catholicism, i don't know if i could ever consider converts true catholics. being raised in a catholic family and attending catholic school as a child are pretty central to the catholic experience, imo.

I know what you mean. growing up with the powerful imagery of catholicism and having that ingrained into you is something that has a real impact on your development. it’s something, unfortunately, that I don’t think converts can really empathise with.

I'll disagree with you, user. In my experience, the converts I know are generally more fervent in their faith than cradle Catholics. That's not to say I wouldn't have preferred a more traditional Catholic upbringing

I also realized how much I liked choral pieces in Latin when I returned to the faith

i think converts are more knowledgeable and maybe more passionate about their faith than cradle-catholics. but having developed with the faith changes your entire infrastructure in inexplicit ways.

it's like the difference between someone who was born speaking a language and someone who became fluent later on. the person who learned probably understands the structure more, but the native views their language as an inseparable way of life

Many Church father were convert; and many martyrs died at the hands of their pagan families.
While a catholic upbringing does help, we must not confuse the "catholic experience" with acceptance of the Truth.

Rembrandt for life, my dude.

I converted to Catholicism. I'm too busy trying to avoid masturbation to care about art any more. After all, masturbation is worse than rape.

> being that addicted to wanking
How does it feel knowing nofappers are stronger than you?

Nofappers usually never make it past 4 weeks

And you can’t make it past one.

How does it feel knowing that the "church fathers" who are responsible for those views on masturbation were most likely cut from the same cloth as the current generation of Catholic priesthood - in other words homosexuals and pedophiles? It's understandable that they would want to stigmatize normal sexuality - now the masses who feel normal biological drives are the sinful deviants, not them.

What did you convert from?
Open question to anyone who feels like answering, not just OP

bad bait, 2/10 for making me respond

Converts to any religion are more zealous.

How does it feel knowing that the same guy you listen to every Sunday probably dreams about diddling half the kids in the pews?

Church fathers write about the primacy of the bishop of Rome from 130AD.

>believing ancient history like the middle ages never happened
leave pleb

Is it even appropriate to speak of Orthodox church before the Great Schism of 1054?

user... the Middle Ages were after 130AD.

All the imagery of Catholicism is there in other people's lives but in an implicit way. Conversion is a return to childhood for everyone. Ever heard of baptism?

I made it past 92 days

Oh, you're a protestant LARPer. Stop thinking with your dick, you've converted to a shit based religion. Masturbation is somewhere around "shitting your pants as an adult" rather than "worse than rape"
