I have a Phd in Spanish literature. I'm telling you it is pronounced Down Key-hot-ay. It's how all the top-tier Cervantes scholars I've known say it.

Well my spanish teacher in highschool who lived in Mexico for a while pronounced it Don-Key-Hote-Ay so that's all I know.

DAN KEE-hoot-TAY

Don KWIX-oat

You're so close. It's Down Key-hot-uh.

>t. Lived in Spain hobnobbing with local writers, artists and academics for 2 years.

I deliberately mispronounce foreign words to assert my linguistic sovereignty.

I would say it
Don Kwixoti.

You're the one who is slightly off, I'm afraid. It is actually Dune Key-hot-uh.
