...if you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you

>...if you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you.
I've been up all not, tossing and turning thinking about this quote. What did he mean by this?

I haven't read it in context, but it conveys to me the open secret all humans share about the bleakness and ultimate sadness that life represents.

The abyss "gazing into you" is the emptiness of the world taking something out of you. The spirit and persistence humans are generally naturally blessed with gets chipped away as you get older and we all just become sad, stern hobbyists.

think about space, what happens to objects in space over time, think about entropy and space and it will make sense

Probably something similar to this: the vag is only as deep as you can stick your in dex Finger.

>dude sex hehe vagina haha!! weee wooo private parts !!!

Grow up. We're trying to have a serious philosophical discussion here.

When you truly comprehend the void of meaning in existence, the pure indifference of reality for your sufferings and the foolishness of hope, you feel that same void within yourself. Nietzsche of course believes that we can overcome our feelings and issues with this void, but nonetheless it initially doesn't match our optimism and idealism for what life is and should be. What this quote means is you BECOME what you perceive, and you have to have a strong will and a determined spirit to overcome these things.

lol

Don't mocking me

Anyone's first guess has to be right

pic related; me and the abyss

The abyss is not empty, it is a "place" that sings an infectious song. If you gaze too long you too will find yourself singing said song.

At least in my experience.
P.S. Though the song my have it's benefits, it is not a song you want to sing.

>serious philosophical discussion
>Neetche
He was not even a philosopher

It means cthulhu isn't just a story

I agree with "you become what your percieve" . This quote is the best - there are so many ways to understand it! Also I believe it means that you will find what you are looking for and beware of what you wish for.

You start realizing your sights are nothing but a pit of emptiness, and the abyss is but a mockery of what you could be.

>if you look at traps long enough they become girls
There did that for your 4chin ridden brain

ignorance is bliss

It's just a finícil

Stare at the emptiness of life and the emptiness of life will show itself everywhere

At least explain your shit opinion with a real argument.

The quote is preceded by "Battle not with monsters, lest ye become a monster," or something similar, right?

So I always assumed in a similar vein he's talking about how the more you look at and try to understand aspects of humanity that you view as negative or evil, the more you begin to take on some of the same character or see it within yourself. Like an example in the digital age might be how the more you observe cruelty through media, news footage, etc. the more you become aware of how you're thrilled by the spectacle of it and you're kind of enjoying it. That's how I read it at least, but then again, I haven't read Nietzsche since I was a teenager, so maybe I need to revisit his work.

more like
>if you look at traps long enough you become gay

nice

Traps already are girls, they just have feminine penises

If you think about nihilism too much you become nihilistic. Same goes with any other depressing, pessimistic thing you can think of. You never see a happy person consistently engaging in sad subjects.

For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
The statement means that in every interaction, there is a pair of forces acting on the two interacting objects. The size of the forces on the first object equals the size of the force on the second object. The direction of the force on the first object is opposite to the direction of the force on the second object. Forces always come in pairs - equal and opposite action-reaction force pairs.

Abyss is likely to be understood as whatever is deep in one's mind. To be "deep" is to be unconscious, and how "deep" it is could be determined by how buried in the past are the origin of elements of the unconscious. Gaze into the abyss is to uncover the unconscious or make the unconscious conscious. Doing this, the person is made aware of the elements that pushed forward some of his thoughts, and the unconscious element is thus eliminated - the person does not behave completely mindlessly about the movements determined by the aforementioned unconscious element.
If the task is carried for a long time, there would me close to none unconscious elements. While the knowledge of some unconscious element created the illusion of freedom, since the person is aware of the influence of some elements and can overcome it consciously, this "freedom" is meaningless when there are not restrictions upon the person's will except those biological. At this point "freedom" is realized as illusory and to a great deal biologically determined. The unconscious conscious can be overcome only when it has origin in the person's life - a historical or cultural matter, but biological determinations are not overcome, the person is simply aware of them. Then the person "becomes" the abyss, as it lets determined "biological" elements of its past to rule its life. And this person may have fallen in an existential bad faith: the process of self-analysis has ended likely where the person has decided, and has decided to give to these final element a determined psychological weight, thus being driven by unconscious thoughts in his attempts to make the unconscious conscious.

What if an unstoppable force meets an immovable object?

>Irresistible force paradox
unstoppable forces and immovable objects cannot exist simultaneously

Does this also apply for the consciousness (immovable object) and subconsciousness (unstoppable force)?

Chaos ensues

honestly I don't know ,great metaphor though

Great stuff. Are you citing this from writings of Nietzsche? I've never understood it in this way but its quite profound and definitely consistent with what Nietzsche is talking about. Did you reach this understanding from any of his books? I've read Zarathustra and most of BGE and never picked up on it like this.

Hey faggots,
My name is Friedrich, and I hate every single one of you. All of you are fat, retarded last men who spend every second of their day talking about stupid ass morals. You are everything bad in the world. Honestly, have any of you ever experienced the sensation that power is growing and that resistance is overcome? I mean, I guess it’s fun making fun of people because of your own insecurities, but you all take to a whole new level. This is even worse than Christianity.

Don’t be a stranger. Just hit me with your best shot. I’m pretty much perfect. I was captain of my artillery company and one of the youngest professors of Classics on record. What sports do you play, other than “jack off to cathartic slanders of this world in service of the next”? I also get straight A’s, and have a banging hot destiny (She just recurred; Shit was SO cash). You are all faggots who should just kill yourselves. Thanks for listening.
