Animals.

>American Gypsies

holy fuck

Almost as bad as the History channel

first season was actually pretty good and gave alot of interesting perspectives from both skeptic and believers view along with a closing summary. then it went to shit after season 2. Apparently one of its episodes about fema camps was actually banned from tv! make you wonder if its fake then why did they try to cancel the show?

i dont even watch history channel remind me why it is so bad?

probably the worst show i have ever seen

its now worse

500 nations for that nostalgia
Aztec episode was great
youtube.com/watch?v=vW0We5RhrPc

>only 1000 views.

why does this happen?

The only reality show on History Channel I've seen recently that's worth a damn is Billion Dollar Wreck.

People don't care about history anymore

Remember when the history channel actually had interesting historical documentaries in the 90s-00s? It was great, learning about Rome and the Maya and the Mongols at a young age

Then somewhere along the line, History channel realized they can make more money producing garbage like Pawn Stars and Ax Men

yes that true. guilty pleasures aside i actually loved watching some of their ayy lmao pyramid documentaries and shows like deadliest catch. and I about history I think its generally very confined such as the case in Rome where stuff about Ceasar and Hannibal has a thousand documentaries already credited to it yet Sulla their predecessor has none!

>The only reality show on History Channel I've seen recently that's worth a damn is Billion Dollar Wreck.

hmm its like another one of those boring gold mining show that looks real promising but evidently is such a waste of time.

>I think its generally very confined such as the case in Rome where stuff about Ceasar and Hannibal has a thousand documentaries already credited to it yet Sulla their predecessor has none!
Very true. If it were a perfect world, we would have great documentaries and books about cincinnatus or Marius, but that just isn't going to happen because they aren't revered throughout history. Seriously, Ceasar is one of the most celebrated figures of all time, so of course he's going to get all the attention

I don't know, I just wish a love of history would catch on

Except this time they've found the ship they're looking for. Yeah, the gold may not even exist, but the salvage operation could shed some light on just what the fuck happened with the RMS Republic.

whos paying for that salvage op? just retrieving the whole ship could cost more then the gold itself. and as you know England may well set claims to their ship.

I mean Cincinnatus is mostly myth, but I'd definitely watch a documentary trying to establish some basic truths about his life

real history itself is forever lost in the sands of time waiting for the day to be rediscovered again and again and again.

>Cincinnatus is mostly myth

generally I found that most myths throughout history are actually based of some well grounded yet unproven facts so just saying its a myth does it no justice.

Guy named Martin Bayerle has been paying out of pocket costs on the ship for more than 2 decades. Also, the I don't believe the Brits will claim rights to the ship.

It's actually a fairly interesting program. I've learned things about an event I had never even heard of, and the theory they've devised about why the ship had so much gold on board is fairly solid, if a bit of a conspiracy theory.

mayday is actually are really interesting show to watch.

youtube.com/watch?v=jJrK-1qr59M

>and the theory they've devised about why the ship had so much gold on board is fairly solid, if a bit of a conspiracy theory

do tell please.

btw another recovery effort had yielded over 500 million dollars worth of gold but unfortunately for those guys Spain claimed and won everything.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Swan_Project

I recently enjoyed The Story of God series they did, but yeah NGC has pretty much become as bad or sometimes worse than History Channel (if I want to watch a show about fucking cops I'll just go on spike and watch fucking cops).

Although for some reason I am somewhat enjoying that Boonies show they've been airing.

So the theory is a combination of three theories to do with the supposed cargo:
>relief money for a 1908 earthquake in Italy
>payroll for the Great White Fleet
>loan to the Imperial Russian government
Bayerle and his salvage team theorized that the ship carried gold coins for all of these payments.

The evidence they cite for this is the fact that US and Russian Navy ships were waiting in a harbor together, suggesting that both were awaiting payment from the Republic when it arrived.

Now when the Republic was hit by the ship SS Florida, another ship nearby contacted the Republic to ask if they required help. The captain of the Republic told them no. Bayerle thinks that he said that because if that ship had helped, whoever owned the ship would have salvage rights to the wreckage, and it's cargo.

Finally, a suspicious salvage company began trying to find the wreckage, but could not reach it because of the technology of the day. Additionally, the official location of the wreckage proved to be false.

Taken together, this points to a cover up of some kind, at least to Bayerle. I've left a few things out I'm sure, but these are some of the most important parts of the theory. You'd have to watch the show to understand further.

thx user that must be a hell of a jackpot salvage if all the ships passengers were in fact millionaires as claimed by wiki

Yeah, the guy has spent retarded amounts of money on this wreck, he even lost his family as a result of his obsession with the wreck. I hope the gold is actually there, for his sake.

Ice Road Truckers

>Ice Road Truckers

you realize the ice cracking sound you hear had been prerecorded right?

>with Morgan Freeman

say what does Gods voice really sound like. is it the same or different for everybody

The Barbarians was a good documentart.

ever notice those NG filler clips that show someone painting yellow or aranging yellow objects or whatever and then the camera moves and you see th yellow rectangle logo thing

almost as if theyre saying - here, were gonna give you this perspective trough this framework, precisely, thats all youre gonna see

3 deep 5 me

Air Crash and Apocalypse master race here

What is it with Rednecks ruining documentary channels?

We should seriously get educational channels away the fuck out of American hands.

Favorite episodes?

Nat Geo's disaster shows are actually bretty comfy desu.

>mfw a Cathay Pacific flight - which is a NatGeo sponsor- I was on had NatGeo channel documentaries on loop. One of them was Air Crash Investigation. This was followed by seconds from disaster featuring the Zeebrugge Tragedy.

Air Crash : Delta Airlines 191
Apocalypse : no particular episode

Yeah that one was really interesting to watch. Kept me guessing till the end

>I don't know, I just wish a love of history would catch on

But that would challenge our visions of a progressive future user, we can't have people admiring the past :^)

Yep, I remember fighting with my sister about watching Saturday morning cartoons or a new part of a 6 hour documentary on Rome.

I watched Planet Earth while tripping on shrooms and it was the most enjoyable thing I ever did on drugs. I recommend it to everyone.

Nice job pol

Shit imagine what it would be like to watch that shit high in VR while free falling in a wind tunnel!

...

Apocaypse WW2, Journey to the Edge of the Universe, and The Last Lions.

Culloden

youtube.com/watch?v=TW8bhB5oxQI

It starts and you think it's going to be smearing the Jacobites and praising the Hanoverians but it swaps around at the end, pretty balanced all in all.

Also some of the Gaelic spoken by the narrator is a bit off but that's no big deal.

really do love those 50s documentaries. No bullshit cut straight to the point attitude.

>The Last Lions

i dont get what peoples obsession with lions are. personally i think they are tyrannical killing machines like sharks only sharks dont attack people no good reason. dolphins ftw fuck lions

soon all our television shows will become Reality shows. Remember when they said Reality TV was going away? Well it came back with a vengeance and now literally everything including comic films to commercials have that reality show feel.

cant wait for another pawnshop marathon. im sure thats how they make their moneys worth and totally always call in that "expert" prior without him know how much shit is actually worth

locked up abroad is a great show

yeah the acting was done very good. even the presentation and conveying looks very well done. im kinda scared to travel to third world countries now

There's this one documentary called besieged fortress. It's about a termite colony that struggles to survive against the elements and a swarm of Matabele ants. It's like a cross between a nature documentary, LOTR: The Return of the King and History channel when it was good.

cool gonna def watch that

thanks user looks super comfy. I love ants btw they are a symbol of civilization

They where to fun to watch and interact with as a kid. There where these large black ants by me that I had never seen before. Most other ants in the area where just standard fire ants so I dropped a couple of the black ants by a red ant colony and they killed a shitload of red ants before dying.

this ep of radio lab on ants is great.
radiolab.org/story/226523-ants/

gonna stay tuned till I go to sleep

yeah I seen those big ass fuckers around. those giant ants could kill a bee. once got stung on the beach by some smaller ant it hurt like hell. i think some of the ants carry some pain venon since it was absolutely panging really bad.

Last time I watched the history channel (some 3 or 4 years ago) it was nothing but Hitler marathons, new age pseudo science bullshit, aliens, more aliens, and dooms day fear mongering.

>tfw

Doomsday Preppers

now that looks real interesting

Personally I see Termites as more "civilized". They build huge structures that are comparable to cities like Hong Kong or New York in human terms. Also the ants such as in this documentary are nomads who pillage and seize the mounds of termites colonies. It's almost like a perpetual Mongol conquest with Ants and Termites.

African ant mound
inb4 we wuz termites and shit

>if you were to compare a human to a skyscraper and a termite to that mound

How the fuck did they even manage to get cameras deep into those termite mounds?

Imagine what Termite 9/11 would be like.

Probably that guy in the white Jeep pushing the pedal down to the metal and crashing right into the termite colony before being swarmed alive by a million angry termites.

Ants are the only other animal on earth to have both domesticated crops and lesser beasts besides human beings. Think about that.
Many ants build huge colonies just as impressive as termites but underground. I think it's interesting how the termites go up and ants go down.
Maybe you should learn your facts before spouting off about us like that.

Tbqh I actually enjoyed the show. It was interesting how people prepared differently and for what reason
>I'm building a super bunker to protect my family for the tornado that will destroy the entire country!
So yeah you meets some interesting folk on the show

Termites also grow crops in the form of fungi. The reason why their mounds are that shape is to circulate air, air conditioning, through the hive and help cultivate the fungi and a good portion of the colony is close to or below ground level. Also as far I know there are no species of termites that are nomadic or aggressive such as army or driver ants. Termites in general just seem more docile then ants.

Although I've never heard of ants domesticating other creatures. I know there's one species of ants that enslave ants from another species. Is that what you're referring to?

Honey what are you doing?
Uh just making a moat around the back yard you never know when the going gonna get rough.

Probably referring to these. Humans have cows, ants have aphids.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aphid

>Is that what you're referring to?

Not that user, but he might be talking about this

>Many insects develop symbiotic relationships with other organisms to help defend them in their environment. These relationships are mainly mutualistic. An example of this type of relationship is between aphids and several ant species. The aphids provide honeydew to the ants while the ants will take the aphids into their nests at night to protect them from predators and escort them back to a plant the next morning. This ant species has even been seen collecting the aphid's eggs and placing them in their nest's storage chambers to survive the cold winter months.

>most myths throughout history are actually based of some well grounded yet unproven facts so just saying its a myth does it no justice
Maybe that's true, but it doesn't help you if you are trying to make a documentary. Personally I think the glimmers of ancient life that you can catch in myths are fascinating, but unless you have some historical or scientific (archaeological etc.) evidence for which aspects of a myth are based in reality, how would you know what to include in your documentary? Often the supernatural or fantastical elements of myths refer to actual historical events, persons, or objects that would have been familiar to members of the culture that produced the myth. Without historical context, how could you identify these?

Ants are Termites are both cool. If they wanted to get rid of us by all teaming up they probably could.

Watch the movie "Take Shelter". It's built on this exact premise.

>Maybe you should learn your facts before spouting off about us like that.

any idea where to watch it? cant find it anywhere

I just rented it off youtube for 2 bucks.
youtube.com/watch?v=wdraC9lQMfI

so far it is really good so I would say it is worth it

alright if its cheap and good may as well

True fact. If you added up the entire weight of the whole human population it would only equal the entire mass of the worlds ant population of which there are estimated to be hundreds of trillions.

>american documentaries

Isn't it frenchmade?

>Chumlee yew stupid motherfucker... Ah told your dumb ass to stop masturbatin' to them porno videos in front of the customers!

Discovery is bad too now it's all about putting naked people in the jungle for ratings

>Every single day there is a conflict as epic as the siege of Vienna happening in the animal kingdom.

This is true I remember walking past a colony of dead insects. Look at the argentine ant they kill nearly everything that lives in the ground near them!

I remember this one part of the film where the ants actually swarm and kill a snake. That's like killing a dragon.

here you go

youtube.com/watch?v=sgJKUJqElDY

I lol'd

thats why you have animal planet. im happy nat geo went this way but there really needs to be less rednecks

mostly soviet propaganda, but damn me if it wasn't fun as hell to watch
best ww2 documentary for me by far

...

desu I found that series much much better and unbiased then American documentaries.

what so biased about them?

Talking about soviet warcrimes and injustices on thier own people is biased according to hipster commies

well its not like it didnt happen thats why so many seen the germans invaders as friends. the main thing I dont like about American documentaries is their focus on themselves. In europe by the time D day occurred the germans already knew the battle was over. liberator memes aside everybody raped and pillaged in ww2.

History today's is considered to be boring and unneeded. My intelligence must have gone up considerably from studying Rome.
