if I'm getting a free t shirt at an event L is usually good, but if I'm ordering shirts from J Crew XL fits me perfectly

XL's are too big for me now. I uses to wear XXL and XXXL when I was a fatty. Now all I use are Large and the they still feel kinda big. I would go for medium but they might fit too tight.
