even super high quality shampoo and conditioner always makes my hair feel like straw, so i just use water and argan oil treatments and my hair is much much shinier and healthier but still not quite on his level

Depends on how bad the damage is and at what length it happened, you'd probably be better off asking your hairdresser and she'd either cut off as little as possible for you or just tell you it's fine.

If I don't use it my hair looks greesy as hell. And if I do it's frizzy yes.

you're not washing it well enough in the shower then. I had that problem too. The trick is to keep your head under water in the shower and tilt your hair forward and push all your hair to the front. Then take your fingers and run it from the root of the hair to the tip. Keep doing this for like 5 mins and you won't have that greasy problem.
