Flying crap in a can we have some work to do.
Start by changing your font back to the original no-nonsense stock typeface. Any font with serifs or irregularities designed to mimic handwriting is awful looking on a phone screen. Second, choose a colorful, yet muted background. The one you have now will do. Then make sure you have a launcher with room for customizability. I use Apex, and haven't had any problems with it at all. Next, choose a simple icon pack. I use Whicons for the majority of mine with Glyphsy for the bottom tray. The goal is to look uniform and simple, and not detract from the overall aesthetic. Phone icons really don't need color at all. Now, the clock/battery meter I use is a custom widget I made in the buzz widget app, so you can goof around with that if you want, but it's not a must.

Actually your clock is pretty nice looking. Keep it. Just make sure that if you have your icons in a circle still, that they're scaled down and don't have those weird circle things. Also, I forgot to say that min and minoir are excellent icon packs as well

Type on clover in Google, check the first link, go to APKS and you can download the app straight to your phone, its not the same as the google play one as far as I'm aware.

Only reason to get it through f-droid is you get automatic updates, if you download the app yourself, you have to check back on the website to see

I would stick with a colored wallpaper and white or black icons. The wallpaper you had wasn't horrible, but if you want recommendations, I very much suggest any artwork by Carlos Cruz-Diez (look him up)
