Just get a select few of your favorites. It always looks bad with a ton, but I've seen a bunch of awesome ones with only a few. I still have to order 1 or 2 for mine, just waiting till I see the perfect patch

most of them have an iron-on backing, that will usually degrade over several washes, I usually sew thm on and ignore the adhesive, so I can put them on something else when the clothing they're on wears out
