Actually I suspect it might be the other way around. Without biker gangs they might be much more acceptable.
1920s through 1950s a leather jacket was basically just work wear. Even sportswear.
Through biker gangs and/or depictions of biker gangs they gained connotations of being a costume and not for everyone. Or at least tied to use of motorcycles.

The jacket seems to be made in Turkey for distribution in the German market, since it reads 'Ecthes Leder' (Typo on the label should be 'Echtes') which means 'Real Leather'. But if it's really 50 years old, the company will not exist anymore.
