At first what I noticed were the dudes really flexing. First time I ever saw full rick, first time I saw supreme outside of maybe a hat, first time I saw HBA. I didn't really know much about designers that weren't so easy to spot, but I saw more and more subtle stuff as I paid more attention. People wearing APC\Acne\Norse\Our Legacy\Maison Kitsune basics, hell even people wearing Uniqlo was a huge step up from a town that was tripping over itself when it finally got an H&M in like, 2013.

But what you realize if you really pay close attention is that it's a whole different paradigm. People just by default pay attention to their appearance and know something about clothes. "Normie" core where I live now is like trendy sneakers (fuck me but even Stan Smiths count as this, in my town you were wearing high fashion if you had Stans), chinos/well fitting jeans, and a well-fit button tasteful button down or high quality tshirt. In my hometown, wearing this outfit regularly would cause people to quickly label you dressed well/very fashionable, or a faggot, depending on who you talk to.

The disparity is just insane. And the culture that lets people wear HBA here and not only get taken seriously but even complimented when they do it well is just an entirely distinct one from somewhere that Levi's are considered the top end of denim.

people don't appreciate nyc for what it is. No, not every single person walks around in a $2k fit. It is impossible to overcome the fact that a good percentage of the population makes too little money and works jobs that render being "effay" unfeasable. But yes, it is the most fashionable place--both in that the best fashion is here, and that the average level here is the highest--of anywhere in the united states.

This summer I was on a trip through Europe. Was in many cities, among them Paris. Paris was pretty shit, only the very very central part of paris was a pleasant experience. The best city of all I was in was a small one in Belgium called Ghent which was very atmospheric and cozy, had stores with belgian designers though i guess thats expected, great food, and the ratio of well dressed people to normies was much much higher than anywhere else I was in in Europe. The good cities aren't always the big and known ones, like im not that good at writing but take my word for it it was so nice
