You have to eat. There's no secret to gaining weight, other than eating more. I don't like eating in crowded places either, but you have to force yourself to do it.
Push-ups and planks are a great start for exercising. Look up more calisthenics if you don't want to get a gym membership.

Eat carbs and fats together and throughout the day. Your body will use up the carbs as direct energy and any excess fat that you eat will be stored, unless you run out of glycogen (the carbs). For gaining muscle, it's all about working out while providing your body with enough protein to repair your muscles. So yeah, eat enough protein and make sure you feed yourself enough carbs so you won't have to use the protein as fuel. Also don't fast for too long. After a certain amount of time fasting, your body will break down muscle tissue. Gaining muscle is a better way of gaining weight than gaining fat. Muscle is alot heavier, and obviously looks alot better than more fat.

First advice would be eat more. And count the calories - skinny people usually overestimate their daily intake, and fat fucks underestimate. Don't be afraid of fats in food, they are filling, give you a lot of energy through a day and make you feel nice.
If you want a quick solution - make yourself a shake or two through the day, between the meals. I throw: cottage cheese, half of yoghurt, 7 spoons of oats, 2 spoons of peanut butter, spoon of honey, sometimes a banana or some frozen fruit, plus fill it up to the brim with milk (an actual milk with fat in it), then blend that shit together. That's an easy way for nearly 1000 kcal, and if you skip the oats you won't even feel that. With oats it's really filling, so it gets me through the day if I can't find the time to eat at the moment

Nope. I also thought it was all about low body fat, so I never bothered working out my abs. I saw athletes (like in crossfit and strong man) who had abs but also weird guts, so I thought the instances where people had abs but high body fat were due to steroids. I started working out my core anyway, and now I have abs despite not being that skinny.

I had to do extra credit for spanish and that was there. Plus my mom is costa rican and was telling me about how good it was, so I tried it.
Funny enough since starting uni with the opportunity to try counting and stuff I've been isolated a bit because I don't wanna go to a restaurant with my roommates because of how high calorie the options are. Plus my dining hall tells you the calories in everything or I can easily google the calories in the stuff if they don't say it.

If you're a guy it will be your lower stomach. If you're a girl it will be your lower stomach + ass. Although 5kg is a little much, so some of it will diffuse to other areas as well.

It's less about worrying about this individual meeting with your mother and more about your proving to her that you don't have an eating disorder/ aren't depressed. She's your mom and just worried that you aren't feeling well.
Eat in front of her when you can. If she asks why you aren't eating as much as you used to, just brush it off. Don't outright tell her you're trying to lose weight, better yet ignore the topic of food and weightloss as best as you can. Act like you haven't noticed you lost weight.
