/g/ meme research

Hello. /g/entooman here. I pretty much wear whatever doesn't have holes in it.

Is it true that you guys like Macbooks? We need to know.

I like the classic black and red Form follows function of Thinkpads.
I also like the small bezels of the XPS series. And love the minimalism of the Pixel and the MiBook.

Macbooks Design wise is for hipsters and fuccboi fgts

i used to hate on them, but i'm worried i might fall for the meme eventually

They are expensive for what you get, but they look relatively nice and OSX is nice.I have thinkpad from work but would be ok with a macbook. You retards just love to hate everything.

i will never go back to windows

full MSI Ghost. I like the new macbooks tho and i dont game as much as i used to, but 2400 for something as good as my 1300 gs60 is pretty shit. Ill stick to the [spoiler]iPhone6s{/spoiler}

I love the professional look

running ^!

fuck

Still in excellent condition, runs smooth after all these years, only had to replace the harddrive and battery once.

replaced battery once. runs like it did the day i got it.

they look pretty good. although personally I'd prefer a boxy Thinkpad with the older IBM logo for the aesthetics.

I used to browse /g/ 3 or 4 years ago. I use both a MBP and a Thinkpad. I very much like the old style of Thinkpads before Lenovo memed on them. I don't like the direction Apple is going in with Macbooks either.

OSX is certainly better than Windows (mainly because its Unix-like) but OpenBSD is the god OS imo.

This. A windows PC would never last this long without upgrades (not replacements)

>t. someone who never owned a professional level/ Business grade notebook

I have an old as fuck IBM Thinkpad T60 that still runs strong and gets used. Just switched out XP for Debian since XP support ended.

Here are some notebooks that will probaby last forever if you don't throw them from like 10 feet.
Thinkpads of T-, W-, P-Series
Dell Precision, Latitude Series
HP zBook, Elitebook Series

This is the prime look for me too.

>implying a 10 foot drop would even phase a thinkpad's magnesium rollcage

My main is a Macbook from 2014 running Yosemite, but I also have a Thinkpad T-420 I'm currently running Manjaro on.

the only reason Macbooks need 16 GB of ram is because every basic Macbook bitch uses google chrome which eats up your memory

also putting an i7 in a laptop is fucking dumb

windows computers get slower and slower as they get older. macbooks stay the same speed for ever thats why they age so good

oh man, you have to be trolling

Not the guy you're replying to but I play games on mine so the 16 gigs is nice. I use Opera which is many times more lightweight than Chrome but I keep an unholy amount of tabs open at a time.

To be fair that's just because a lot of windows users don't know what the hell they're doing. If you keep your antivirus software up to date, use extensions like disconnect, defrag every once and a while, and don't click on suspicious shit you can keep your PC running for years. Maybe do a wipe-n-reload ever 2-3 years if you feel like it.

im not ive owned multiple versions of both. macbooks just stay the same speed they're unrelenting. obviously your hardware goes out of date and you cant run certain programs as it ages. but just browsing stays the same from the time you first turn it on. until the time you drop a drink on it. its like a tv it just does its intended job no matter what even if its out of date

with windows it just a slow descent from the first moment you turn it on. each year it gets slower and slower until it eventually just bricks itself and by that time its so old you wouldnt even bother repairing it so you just buy a new one

you don't know how to take care of a PC or you've had SHITTY products. again, as said, business grade laptops don't slow down at all, unless you do something full retard.

I really like Linux, I just don't see a reason to switch if my Mac still just werks

>inb4 muh proprietary software
Give me a real reason

you're a windows user whos never even owned an apple trying to compare an apple computer to a windows computer

No, I'm not. what a strange assumption to make. I've owned both and I have a large family that comes to me with their problems, I know how they work, and while apple is a good stable product, it's not unique in that aspect even remotely.

but they do. Have you used an old latitude with XP. It takes 3 mins to turn on and pages load like you'r on fecking DSL

dont*
>typeing on this inferior msi without double butterfly

lol sure you do

Only used thinkpads honestly. But no, not at all, unless that was the original booting time. Never noticed a slowdown unless I clogged up the start folder with useless shit.

>what is rhetoric and a hyperbole?

wtf man, are you 12 yrs old or what?

They look good. But idk i mean i'm not gonna pay that much for a 256 gigs storage. Apple is about luxury, it's about the value of having, of the whole product the whole experience, it's worth it for some people, but not for me.

im in the fashion industry
illustrator and photoshop files can be heavy to work with depending on the project
i've even reached a warning that photoshop is using too much ram

I use both. Windows 7 desktop primarily for everything. Running smooth since 2009 and I've only upgraded my video card to a GTX 650 and added a 1 TB hdd. My macbook air 2015 is pretty cool, runs nice, and I only use it for school, porn, and touhou. I have to run pretty much everything thru wine (usually old games and programs) which sucks sometimes but hey, it doesn't kill my back since it's light. Slouching is not Veeky Forums.
I've also been thinking about installing gentoo on that little fucker. Wish me luck.

Also, I'm not a big fan of the stock mac osx restrictions. Such a smooth operating system though

thoughts on macbook pro going max 8 gb ram?

i have an 8gb. i study sound production. so im always using labour intensive programs (logic pro, final cut, photoshop etc) and i haven't had any issues

the only issue i have is i got the 120gb version because i was kinda strapped for cash when i bought and i really regret it. im constantly out of space and im reaching a point where i have nothing left that i can delete. probably gonna have to get it upgraded

frustrating
i hope it'll be able to efficiently handle programs like ios does with lesser hardware than android

them ignoring the desktop market yet again is more frustrating

you should get the wd mycloud as your workspace
i did at one [fashion] company and it made everything easier

literally viewing this thread on a macbook rn.

post whatever it is yall make with this research here when ur done i'm interested in seeing this

I have an Asus Zenbook (from 2013) and plan on getting a new one
I can barely run Chrome lol

the only issue i have with that is alot of my shit is like files within programs. like i have probably 100s of logic sessions and it would be annoying having to get put them onto a cloud and then search for them and reupload them onto the computer hard drive everytime i wanna use them. is that how it even works though???

like when you're in your cloud can you just open a logic project that's only on your cloud and it will just open in logic that's on your computer's physical hard drive?

Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 14"

Its a cool laptop. I got it on clearance so I sprung an extra 50 bucks for the thinkpad yoga.

i would be able to open files directly from the cloud folder when in programs like illustrator that had other files linked to it, i feel as if it would be the same

Man, Lenovo is driving the Thinkpad brand into the ground.

I can't complain, i5 with an nvidia card for 500 bucks.

All I need for shitposting, overwatch, and jacking off.

I did, don't really regret it.

huh I've always had some trouble with final cut pro, my laptop would freeze when using it, other than that everything runs fine

i'm from /g/ too. i was wondering if there was a place to get cheap shoes like how we have chink shit general

Thinkpad T420 and macbook air are the only laptops worth owning ngl
Only good phones are the iPhone 5/5s/SE

The T and P series is still pretty great.

I have a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012).
I was gonna replace it this year with the new model but that Touch Bar sucks.

Me too famalamadingdong. Early 2011's though. Never had to replace anything, and have only needed to air dust the keyboard.

master race reporting in

Shouldn't have upgraded to Sierra, InDesign CS6 is acting up ever since.
Also thought about upgrading but I'm not so sure about that Touch Bar. I should go check it out in a store.

8gb is shit if u use illustrator/ps. it runs, but sometimes it stops working

Yes. It's Unix with good battery life and hardware compatibility. I care about that more than performance specs. I write in C and Lisp. If my fans start churning, it means my code is bad.

I have no interest in modern Apple though. Still using 2011 MBP and iPhone 5.

Chiclet keyboards are not effay. Used to be that it exuded professionalism, opeb that fucker and people would think "man, that dide is probably stock brokering or making high end deals with the military". Thing was basically the computer equivalent of a suit case. Now it's "wew, I bet that kiddo is watching youtube vids about cats"
Thank god they've teased going back

built a PC back in 2012 when i was really into gaming. dont game anymore and i have no idea how long the PC will last.

when it starts to shit out ill buy a laptop, but not a mac.

You can upgrade your MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) with 16GB RAM that should make it perform better and last a little longer, it's only $70 right now.

I was also thinking about getting rid of my cd-drive and replacing it with an ssd-card

I've already done that.
I have an SSD as my main drive and a HDD instead of the DVD drive.
