Why was pure communism/socialism always a failure when implemented?

why was pure communism/socialism always a failure when implemented?

can someone explain it to a layman?

Hard work and growth are purely the result of (a) neccesity and (b) man's desire to be better than the man next to him.

You eliminate these two things and everyone stops giving a fuck. Then society collapses.

someone always has to be "in charge". that person is also in charge of all the money. it inevitably turns into a goddamn monarchy like Cuba or a totalitarian nightmare like China. Greed consumes all and communism is great on paper but never works in practice because of human nature.

Socialism is the transition to communism and the means of production are controlled by society(read: the state) while personal ownership of some property is still allowed.

Communism is wherein the people directly control the means of production and there is no private property, social classes, or currency.

These are actually pretty big differences, amigo.

Because people are lazy and won't work for the benefit of the collective. I think some monasteries and similar are the only places where it really works as designed

is there a diference when implemented?

One is a system of economic policies, the other is more of a philosophy and way of life.

Because of greed

The person in charge will always have the nicest car

Other effects are the lack of innovation because there is no incentive to work when everything is given to you

I should add that this is COMPLETELY different from social democracy which many Americans mistake for socialism. The government paying disability benifits is nowhere near the same as it owning the means of production.

>why was pure communism/socialism always a failure when implemented?

Hmm..
>in capitalism, boss isn't rewarding me for my hard work
>find another job, start a side business, or suck dicks for money

>in gommunism, boss isn't rewarding me for my hard work
>try to quit, get shot

Communism punishes, or at least frustrates, hard workers.

So it seems that perhaps, successful societies encourage (reward) hard workers, and tax some of their output to maintain the society

This can also be looked at as reducing conflict/increasing congruence between capable people and the state, whereas gommunism aligns moreso with the interests of the least capable and taxes the work of the capable at an extremely high rate to pay for it.

Because the true cost of producing goods and services is never conveyed to the final consumer.

Communism/socialism lack any incentives for people to do anything but the bare minimum they can get away with.

Imagine if every business was run like the DMV. How many of those businesses are going to be able to out compete a free market version of that same business?

>to maintain the society

It was never about that and will never be about that. Taxes are as old as civilization itself. When people started farming 10 000 years ago they had to stay put unlike their hunter/gatherer ancestors which meant they were vulnerable to people who would rather loot and pillage than produce and provide. So a deal had to be made where the looters would be given a certain percentage of crop and livestock and the producers would be left alone. (although throughout history the looters always made sure the producers were disarmed)

Socialists and communists believe that a man does not own the product of his efforts and therefore does not own his own life.

The human element. That's it every single time. Fucking teenage commies don't even fucking consider that when they praise communism or socialism, sure it may sound good on paper in some ways but as long as people remain human it will never change.
You always see someone make the argument "Not real communism or socialism" when pointing out failures from history, they never consider that there is a reason that communism hasn't thrived. Society could be great if we gave 100% and cared about shit and had no need for money but instead spent out time to advancing the human race or something like that, but no it doesn't happen. People are lazy uncaring greedy fucks who thrive on personal pleasures rather than society as a whole.

Because *True* Communism/socialism is where all the businesses are worker co-ops.

So all the workers at the restaurant from the cook to the waitresses receive a percentage of profit as payment. And all have an equal vote on how to reinvest into the buisness, whats on the menu, who has to clean the bathrooms, and whether or not it is ethical to recycle the bread.

What everyone else is describing is STATE CAPITALISM. Where the government controls everything but is no better if not worse than the shitty jewish boss you had before.

The reason why socalism never works is because they never get to the worker co-op stage. They get stuck at the "We took over the government Hurray!!!!" stage. Because you can imagine dividing up million companies into co-ops while running a country is difficult. Eventually they either give up or get voted out.

This is insanely false. Where did you get this from?

Profit? Comrade, I...

What else would you call the extra money you get from exporting your surplus production?

it's more like equal distribution rewards the slacker more than the worker. thus everyone will start slacking off they figure this out pretty fast.

Your history is wrongheaded and as far as I can tell, pulled out of your ass but that would take a long time to explain, so I'll focus on this bit:

>Socialists and communists believe that a man does not own the product of his efforts and therefore does not own his own life.

This is entirely false, if you've ever read any Marx you would know this is exactly the opposite of what communists believe. Ever heard of worker alienation? The criticism of inherent in that idea is that capitalism (and its division of labor) alienates from our work, makes us disconnected from the products we create, and deprives us of a social relationship to our work. Under capitalism, you do not own the product of your efforts, nor your own life -- only capital owns them, and you are a wage slave.
