Hey, Veeky Forums

Hey, Veeky Forums,

I've got a question. But I must explain first what I think I want.
I really like the aesthetic of the artist/bohemian in the end of the XIX century and begging of XX century (pic related, it's Erik Satie's portrait, and I'll post even more pics).
I know this style is outdated today, and I know that if I wear it, I'll look like a weirdo, considering the century and contemporary style.
My question: How do I pull something similar-but-contemporary using modern clothing?
I want to pull a more traditional outfit to honor my ancestors, since I am an artist--a poet--also.

Thanks!

Here's a portrait of a Russian nihilist student by Ilya Repin.

Here's some anarchist getting shot.
He's got a pretty nice fit tbqh

Here's Tolstoy Lev, a the end of his life in Yasnaya Polyana

... and a contemporary fit, which I feel is very similar to the fits I'm looking for

The guy sports a look I dig

The things I'm saying sound very pesudish, but they're my sincere self.
Pic related, my haircut and nearly the same face

This is some kind of revival but with a fresh contemporary avant-garde style

It's comfy, the wool and thread, the pea coats and wool pants, but also modern, flexible and urban.
Fyodor M. Dostoevsky

comfiness is the first and most important part

colour ought to come second, being dark, beige and ghastly, pale.
no strong colors, nothing that grabs attention

Am I talking palewave?
No, never.

Is it urban?
Somewhat, yes.

Hope I sparked some idea. I'd appreciate some inspo

God damn, this is my exact aesthetic, i'm happy to see others have similar ideas. I'll contribute when I get home with some inspo, although this particular style is very obscure and is hard to find content for

would this be considered bohemian/artist?

I fucking LOVE that guy's attitude, and the way his body language is so cool & defiant. I guess he got his brains blown out, but that guy his exit with fucking class

this best be bait

No, that's trying to hard.. this is comfy, not that tight, not that "artsy".
Awaiting it!
step out your shell, user, this is the new sincerity

>comfy
>those skin tight pants

it's sweatpants
sweatpants are ubercomfy

...

>You will never live in the world of a Cortés painting
>a world of comfy rain, cafés, beauty and grand architecture
>instead you live in the cold reality of the modern world
>a world of cars, parking lots, malls, suburbia and where human progress is measured in profits, consummerism, consumption and wasteful manufacturing entirely for soulless corporate profit

Its an abstract feel all right.

is that beeork

It's a staged picture and that commie looks like a fucking brat which is probably very true to his real character. If you think this looks realistic or even worse the guy looks cool you're a lost cause.

Bump á dump. I have returned. Might take a while shifting through my unorganised folder.

this thread is retarded

none of the images posted have anything to do with the OP whatsoever

its just a bunch of random generic Veeky Forums inspo

except for this one

>How do I pull something similar-but-contemporary using modern clothing?
Dumbass

You could look into Hermes fall/winter 2010 and 2015

...

>missing the point
no "dumbass" what's been posted is not in anyway similar-but-contemporary, everything up to this point has just been random inspo that gets posted in every other thread on Veeky Forums and isn't even trying to keep with the theme

I thought it have been staged, but I did a reverse image search before I posted that, and the site I was led I was led to said it was real. You might be right though. I just thought the guy looked unbelievably relaxed, and anybody who has the nerve to relax in front of a fucking firing squad is cool in my book. But if it's staged that's different.

I think OP is asking about broodcore.

I agree, though i feel like this person is going for a yohji vibe instead.
Maybe 2005? Or 2008? 2012 for max comfty?

is this what u mean

no, it's just a pleb faggot

Check out the menswear from designers and brands such as Anatomica, Ann Demeulemeester, Yohji Yamamoto, Arts&Science, Alexander McQueen, and Dries Van Noten. Take notes of what they're doing and apply the same details into your outfits. You could probably start with a wrinkly linen shirt or smock to emulate the feel of a loose poet blouse.

Gonna post some examples. This one's from Alexander McQueen f/w2016

Dries Van Noten s/s2015, the ballet-inspired espadrilles were beautiful

A variety of stuff from Ann Demeulemeester f/w2010, the cape is so wonderful

Also not necessarily menswear but Uma Wang f/w2017 was intensely romantic, those textiles were lush as hell. Possibly my favourite collection of the season.

thanks man, this is some nice inspo

It's just commies playing pretend for a memento postcard. You just need to look at the men who are supposedly Freikorps. Some of these men have never held a gun in their life. Two people are looking at the camera, everyone is way too close to the guy being shot for their own comfort (so they all fit onto the picture). And the pose of the victim is both so juvenile it's laughable and also he's standing towards the camera giving the firing squad his side which apparently they think is fine anyway because it was just such a good picture. And why the Spartacists decided to dress their man up in such a way when they actually looked less like tossers in real life (pic related) I don't understand either.

My mind immediately went to Ann when I read OPs post. Her collections ooze a brooding romantic style.
I think my favorite season is either aw09 (pic related) or aw01.

oops I meant '02, not '01

Im a fan of the style too OP.
This guy posted this in a waywt thread some time ago. could prob check the unix code for when.
Im not a fan of the wide pants but it does fit him.

Ann D is basically exactly what you described
Some rock star stuff mixed in here and there

I haven't seen him in a couple months, what a shame.

I think he posted in a WAYWT like last week.

Bumping a nice thread.

W2C them old adidas?

love that era, imo are the best suggestions since i would have suggested something along the lines of that as well.
I totally get the feel of wanting to visually represent art or poetry you feel related to or like since i'm an artist as well and wish i could pull of 1920s german or russian outfits. If you read literature from an era you love it should be easier to find clothes that characters wear and to try and mimic it yourself, i love Dostoevsky books and always want to find something to look like a late XIX century socialist student or some shit.

I also have a question, could pic related be emulated today and if so what should i get to get a fit like it?
