Was Castro not attempting to use the missiles as a deadly deterrent to protect Cuba. After the Bays of Pigs he needed allies to protect Cuba and he found it in the USSR. The USSR had its own motives for granting Castro the missiles to counter the Turkish missiles and spread influence in Latin America. Or did he genuinely detest the American population.
