It happened again

I got told "you should be a model!" Again. I get this comment a lot, like unbelievably a lot anywhere I go. I'm starting to actually consider it because I get it so often, especially from strangers (male and female). It's not like I have anything better to do, so I'm wondering, does Veeky Forums know anything about starting out in that industry? I live in Washington so I don't even know if I'm in a place where I could make it.

user, getting those comments when you're at the mall with your mom in Macy's doesn't mean anything. A&F/Hollister call their employees models and send people to walk around the mall and recruit "models" aka cashiers, don't suck your own dick too hard

I've been told i have a radio voice (baritone) since 6th grade. Know what I do? Make 3x as much not working on the fucking radio

i've been told this too and i know i 100% could not be a model. it really doesn't mean shit desu, most normies don't really know what you need to actually be a model

I modeled for a while and its fucking a pathetic ambition. I only did it to pay my rent (no I'm not posting my face do fuck off)

> does Veeky Forums know anything about starting out in that industry?
yeah start sucking off photographers and agents. or sell drugs to them

modeling shit is the most scummy line of work if you don't have friends who can help you out from the start.

pay is inconsistent
t.ex-model

My cousin modeled for awhile. I know it's hard work.
How'd you get into it?

My aunt knew someone who worked in an agency because she used to do some of that shit in the past. She showed them a pic of me and from there I got offers which was pretty damn surprising because I'm not that tall (5'11") and have a deviated septum

I was in a restaurant when a guy came up to me and gave me a card saying if I ever wanted to model to call the number and say he sent me.

I looked it up later and it seemed like some sort of cover for gay porn.

So that's it? You just have to lnow people?
Hot

Isn't that how everybody gets every job?

>How'd you get into it?
girl i knew from school older sister modelled. hooked me up with an agency

Do designers not fuck models too?

This is a common way for people to compliment looks. Remember that most people don't actually understand what builds and features are actually desired by agencies and brands. There are different standards between runway, print, high fashion, fast fashion, etc. and then even more brand specific standards.

Also remember that it's a far more grueling and inhumane industry than most people realize. There's not a lot of glamor in the reality of it.

I would ask someone who knows you well and will be unbiased and honest with you. Also, you could post your measurements and that should tell us pretty quickly whether it's a possibility.

Lol @ this autistic humblebrag.
I get told this all the time too, it's a compliment from normies who know nothing about the fashion industry or what it actually takes to be a model.
See you in the next target catalog playing the role of nerdy pop culture t-shirt loving teen at best, user.

Why would gay guys fuck chicks?

tbf there are a lot of people out there that model who aren't attractive looking or even particularly interesting looking. They get a handful of gigs by putting themselves out there and being lucky that someone had an off color vision. Just being in shape or thin will work for you if you want to be in modeling. Now modeling for high end fashion and wanting to make a career out of it is a whole other thing.

Still I'd advise OP to try to get with an agency, have an idea of the type of work and brands you're interested in, go pursue jobs yourself.

Remember fucking ugly ass, short and gross, Ian Connor was (is) a model and got very famous from it and managed to segue it into other career ventures, and that's because he put himself out there and worked hard for it.

God I wish I knew people in the industry
>Also, you could post your measurements
5"5' female. I'm not entirely sure of my waist size, I think it's around 24.
Well I get the comment from friends/family too, I just thought it was more important if randoms said it.
I'd rather get into acting than modeling, but most people start in modeling. I'm a 34 C-cup, I haven't measured my hips in awhile so I have no idea there. My weight fluctuates between 113 and 117 pounds.

dipper and mable

Dude Ian conner isn't a good example, no offense but he's black and part of this merge between high end fashion and hiphop/pop culture that imo is ruining the fashion industry. MAYBE some random short ugly WHITE kid could be the next Ian Connor but for sure no ther race except maybe another african american. Blacks are tokens in this white and black country, meaning he fits the narrative in being an exception to the norm. I'm sure he worked hard too, but lets not get crazy, no amount of hard work can just make you that big of an exception to the norm, Ian fits it, most won't even whites.

Currently dating a semi successful fashion model out of NY. It's cutthroat. 5.9 and taller. Small waist. Petite frame. Good skin. But obviously people make it all the time. So jump onto modelmayhem and try out your luck! Take pictures of yourself to find best angles. Broaden your instagram following... Im a male, and get invites for shoots sometimes through that... (not interested)... Also try and network around good luck!

OP here, I'm of mixed race and often people can't spot my ethnicity at all. I get confused for caucasian, light latina, Russian/slavic and a lot of other things. Do you think this is a good or bad thing if I want to start out? Do you recommend any specific agencies?

I think the point you're trying to make isn't exactly fair. I don't think Ian made it on being the token black kid, There are a lot of other black models out there that are more famous. But you are right about him hitting a good timing of high end fashion and streetwear making a merge.

OP you're a short girl so I'd advise you to get in on streetwear, check for local jobs online, model for local brands, get your social media poppin'. No advice on which agency to pick but whether you go for a local one of a bigger agency I think going to them with an idea of what type of brands you're looking to work with is better than just walking in and having them think you want to be walking for Alexander Wang next year.

Wait hold up, youre a women? No offense, not saying you are ugly, but I would not take the modeling line seriously. You are just a pretty girl who is showered with complements like the rest. Someone calling you a model multiple times should only be used as any indication if you are a male because of the rarity and sure reasoning of being complimented in that way. My sister probably gets that line 5 times a day from random Indian dudes on instagram

Kek I almost forgot about this
One chick from my high school had no modeling experience but managed to get on a season of America's Next Top Model
She lost, of course, but now she has 30,000+ followers on social media, steady work, etc
Sounds dumb but maybe you'll get lucky like her

I really despise social media that's just full of people attention whoring selfies. Is that really a good idea?
Nah that's cool, I totally here you man. Here's the thing, is honestly I love actually a mostly want to get into the acting industry but I don't live in LA, so there's not really options here for me. I'm not gonna lie, I'm pretty attractive, but I'd rather go to an open mic night doing comedy then wear a pretty dress.
>Americas next top model
Don't you at least have to be popular on social media to get on the show?

5 ft 5 is far too short as a model, i know one model who was telling me her career would be over if people founs out she wasnt actually 5 ft 9

The girl wasn't popular on social media. I think she was only 17 too. She wasn't even cool in high school. Didn't date, average student, no drama

>I really despise social media that's just full of people attention whoring selfies. Is that really a good idea?

You want to be able to show that you have a reachable audience, it's not necessary but it helps.

Anyway whatever you want to do takes effort, though modeling can be hard comedy is an undeniably harder skill to master. Not saying you can't do both but go with what you're more passionate about imo.

Hey hey hey this is not fucking /adv/
Do I need to post a pic so you guys can roast me and get this place back in order

yes post pic

>Didn't date, average student, no drama
Sounds like me
That's actually... really goos advince. You think fa has similar rules for acting?

OP here. Here's my face. Thoughts?

Kys
He's not me, but I'll email anyone pics if they can hook me up with some contacts
Email [email protected]

believe it or not mate some ppl are actually attractive and can be models

anyone have the video of that professional photoshoot where after each flash the male model changes to a completely new pose
at some point in the middle of the video the camera doesn't flash on time and the guy has to go back to his previous pose
