Dress Shoes General /DSG/
Not the best place for this. Fa is just streetwear now.
we might just try.
well, yes and no
so I have a bunch of events at the White House coming up and I was wondering whether artisanal derbies (guidi, ccp, a1923) would be appropriate or if I should just do the allen edmonds thing.
>inb4 "full rick"
I admit that would be good for laughs but I would probably get kicked out or denied entry if I wore Geos
Dress shoes are the faggiest ladyboy shit, start wearing boots
with jeans, sure, but with a suit? boots?
dress boots are included, my simple minded bitch.
Really depends on the derby, but I would recommend you some oxfords (balmoral).
Derbies are fine, especially in America.
go oversized like ol' donny
anyone appreciate a good balmoral? considering buying black ones.
I'm considering them too, but I really don't know if I'm ever going to wear them. Maybe in bourbon they are more versatile, but they still look to formal.
I like the victorian vibes the black ones give, don't mind the 'formality'; i wear mostly wool trousers anyway
Desperate need some dress shoes boys. This thread is rare here so keep them coming.
Button boots are overkill?
budget, zone, and style.
dress boots are really juvenile and make you look like a fedora fag. dress your age
...
Button boots are kinda hipster-waistcoat-tier unless you're wearing them with a tux, but there's kinda no reason to buy $1000 mtm shoes that you'd only wear with a tux
button boots with a tux? wat?
got these for a steal recently, scuffed the fuck out of them immediately
seem like a nice quality/price ratio, but they really are just formalwear, perhaps you could wear them in an SLP fit? but that about it
I think these look bad in general but definitely don't attempt unless you're like a 6'3 skelly
Button boots should go with a morning coat which literally nobody wears anymore (you will look like you're wearing a costume), or possibly a tux. They're very formal and very evocative of a specific era and if you try to take them out of that era and formality it most likely be fedora tier
Balmoral boots are my fetish.
No, if you can wear dress boots, button boots are good as well. One caveat though, get some that aren't black and white, incorporate color.
What the hell you smoking?
Apologizing for , that boot looks nice and not too formal. Black and white patent looks dated though
>dress shoes are gay
>wear boots
Fucking lmao what's it like living in the ghetto and being from a factory working family you fucking pleb.
Please don't, wear proper dress shoes.
How does it feel knowing you'll never make more than 30K a year?
What's your budget?
Does anyone own any Paul Parkmans?
They seem legit, but i cant find any reviews anywhere about them i am sceptical of >Turkey.
Ok why. They aren't even that visible under pants as i'm not going to do any gay cropped trouser meme
£150ish, anything black and wearable to formal parties/work. Cheers in advance man.
Check out Meermin shoes at meermin.es
Yeess mate they are saucy. Appreciate that thanks.
>Those tiny fucking feet.
Jesus.
Didn't you already ask this a couple moths ago? Besides, their shoes are incredibly gaudy.
I agree with but you might also check out Allen Edmonds factory seconds. You can never know too many sources for good shoes.
up
If you're in the Uk it is simple.
Buy loake 1880 series to begin with (200£ but will last you fucking ages)
Buy Crockett and Jones next for a small price bump.
Honestly you don't need to buy better shoes than crockett and Jones unless you really start getting into menswear.
Us is more limited than Europe for good shoe manufacturers (you have a lot of good boot manufacturers though). It seems to be Allen Edmonds then Alden if you can afford it.
Tips:
Brogue is not a specific type of shoe. Derby's and Oxfords can both be "brogued".
Buy goodyear welt/Norwegian/storm welt/handwelt (if you're truly baller) if you can, they're much more durable and you can easily get the soles replaced if they break.. Goodyear welt is such a marketing meme that if the manufacturer doesn't mention it, it probably isn't.
Don't buy glossy looking shoes. That usually means they are using corrected grain leather and it is inferior.
Protect your shoes. Use a mink oil based moisturizer or just polish regularly.
Buy shoe trees. They absorb the sweat and help the shoe hold its shape.
Rotate your shoes. Don't wear the same pair every day or you will pound your shoes into oblivion.
If the shoe is leather soled, wear it for a week or two and then put on topy or some other rubber attachment to stop water wearing down your soles.
If you're some poorfag 18yo student ignore what I've written and buy shit from aldo. You won't have the money to properly invest in nice shoes until you're older. Also fuck you for being young.
Good manufacturers in Europe:
UK
Trickers, Crockett and Jones, chruches (only on sale. Quality is a bit shit nowadays), John lobb(for real ballers), Edward green, grenson (mostly made in India though), loake, cheany, herring
France
Septieme largeur, Bowen, paraboot, Bexley, loding,
Germany
Show passion
Us
Alden Allen Edmonds, Thursday boots, quoddy, rancourt and co, wolverine, redwing (for dat sweet clowncore)
Sorry I mostly know just england and France. Feel free to add or correct my list.
If you're British you would be a complete fool to listen to Americans advising you to buy their shoes. They're super overpriced In the UK and you can get Allen Edmonds quality far far cheaper or superior quality for the same. First up check out to maxx for loake or trickers. Trust me.
>Tkmaxx
Then go to herring shoes. Then search for grenson shoes on sale. Then buy loake.
>Buy loake 1880 series to begin with (200£ but will last you fucking ages)
Buy Crockett and Jones next for a small price bump.
>small price bump
>small
Wtf i love button boots.
Thanks for the recs

Need some help looking for chisel last balmoral boots, single leather sole and goodyear welt. Ideally under $700 and RTW, otherwise I"ll just get MTO.
How formal are monk straps? I've never owned a pair. Been thinking of copping a double. I would almost never wear them with a suit because I rarely have any occasions that call for one. Would honestly wear it to work with maybe some slacks/workwear trousers and a casual jacket, maybe something like corduroy. Is it possible to play the shoes down this much?
Not formal at all. Not a big fan of double monks, but i like single monks. Single monks are tad more formal imo
Vass. Check them here ascotshoes.co.uk
A little bit more than your budget, but believe me, they are worthy.
yes, you can dress down double monks that much, but like said, single monks are more formal. If you want to use them with corduroys double monks will be just fine.
I don't care for their toe design, they're much too tall, leads to a chunky silhouette (in my opinion).
By and large they're not, but it does kinda depend on the country you're in. US is much more lax on formality, unlike the UK, for example. Also the situation can change that as well, if it's just a friendly dinner with customers, double monks can work. Though I would suggest going with what said if you're hell bent on monks.
>Need some help looking for chisel last balmoral boots
>I don't care for their toe design
wat
The toe height, look at this picture and look at . Compare the toe, instead of a straight drop (Vass) it elegantly starts to fall (a true chisel last).
yeah...
Im trying to dress a bit better at work and just bought some walnut brogues, what pants do you wear with them?
post pics.
Brogues should go well with almost everything. Just stay away from black trousers.
That's all well and good, but I can't find any boots with that last from either Ascot Shoes or Vass themselves. This leads to the conclusion that they are MTO, which I don't want.
What dress shoes should I wear to achieve Yakuza-core?
What ever, really loafers, derbies or oxfords. Watch takeshi kitano's films for best yakuza fits
boss or soldier?
you should consider buying a good pair of glasses instead of boots.
Ok, look through this list and fine me some closed laced boots with a chisel last that aren't MTO.
Will do
Soldier, something I can wear on the street.
...
Here's what Rick and Michéle wore to the White House...
And they look like fucking tools
What are these?
It occurs to me that you may not know what the acronyms MTO and RTW stand for any why I am specifically requesting a RTW boot. MTO stands for Made-To-Order, anther way of looking at it is semi-custom. You can pick and choose specific parts and materials for your order (e.g. different kinds and color of leather, a different welt type, different lasts, ect.) but they usually cost 25% more standard production models (also known as RTW or Ready-To-Wear) and usually take two to four months to produce. I am specifically looking for RTW boots because I don't care to spend that much more money on a luxury item and I really don't want to wait that long. I've gotten MTO shoes in the past and I hated the wait.
Now on too the subject of Vass, they produce marvelous shoes and boots that I would love to own one day, but right now they do not have any RTW boots and only a hand full of shoes. Again, I do not care to wait and spend that money on a pair of boots I can only wear a few times on a monthly basis, therefor I will not order from them at this time.
Look closer, please. PLEASE.

Are oxfords fine for your Sunday best?
>inb4 being religious in the current year
Get a nice pair of Tramezzas, my personal favorite, or a pair Shell Cordovan Alden's. My black Alden's draw everyone's eye and the Shell oxfords get many comments.
Meermin is way cheaper and the same thing.
Ralph lauren is also great when they have someone like Edward Green or C & J or even Alden making their shoes.
Also go to 6pm
Great deals there on A testoni, Grenson, Gravati and Magli. I got a pair of A testoni Black label for like $200
It's small there but larger here. Since the lb is so bad now, you can actually do really well with US currency in London. Now's the best time to get a pair of Lobbs
Not are they fine, but perfect
Meermin's qc is worse than carmina, and they don't even stock those styles
holy shit dude, get a pair of glasses. Seriously.
...
Lol, you're talking to a different dude.
I have both Meermin and Carmina. Meermin doesnt even come close.
I usually only wear oxfords on Sunday's as does my pastor.
I recently found a pair of used shoes at a thrift store for very cheap. Was thinking of having them repaired as there's just a bit of wear inside.
Is there a good way of finding out the specific model it is?
It's Santoni I believe if that makes a difference
magnanni for holt renfrew
What's the best poorfag dress shoe company?
Those monk straps are gorgeous
ebay
Lightly worn expensive dress shoes will pretty much always look better than brand new cheap ones.
Allen Edmonds for Americans.
Bexley/Loake/Meermin for Euros.
You can go cheaper but you really start getting shit.
Ebay if you can't afford the above.
+1
only chelseas and chukkas work with a suit
I'm pretty happy with my ae park avenues. I got them with the combo tap sole for better grip and durability.
>chukkas
Hell no. Balmoral boots and some derby boots do work tho
what the fuck
...
ugly soles
what does everyone think about cordovan dress shoes?
Thinking about copping a pair for med school interviews...
i cant find officine creative with this few lace things anywhere : (
>artisanal derbies
Oxfords for a formal event
Haven't actually participated in this thread yet, but how much does a pair of Fukudas run? He only does bespoke orders?
They're giving me a boner every time I pass this thread.
Why do you need to know? A decent repair place should be able to fix just about anything.
Comfy af
>Timberland
>that sole
Get the flying fuck out of here.
