Last thread was interesting and want to continue talking about making a smaller wardrobe. This would include choosing clothes not only for how they look, but judge more on construction, materials as these garments need to built to last.
>What is a capsule wardrobe A capsule wardrobe is a collection of a few essential items of clothing that don't go out of fashion. Tens only, to maximize the number of outfits that can be created. The aim is to have an outfit suitable for any occasion without owning excessive items of clothing.
Is all black arguably the best capsule wardrobe color choice? I think yes
Isaac Johnson
Wearing, grey, white, black does make it easy. But you can use a little space to add more colors. Would be wearing more of the same outfits, but it can be done.
Evan Nguyen
>Outlier >Icebreaker These are two brands that I love to get my basics from. Merino is a great material to wear all year round, and outlier shirts and pants have served me a long time.
Jose Rivera
i have a capsule wardrobe because I'm poor
Ayden Campbell
Shades of black, grey, and white are the ideal wardrobe.
Josiah Sullivan
How do you guys limit yourself, often times I when I something I a T-shirt I need the same one in different colors. I feel getting over this need to have it in a variety expands my wardrobe too much. Any ideas?
A general quantity of pieces that one should have? For example maybe two T-shirts in colors "x" and "y"
John Young
i dress like this anyway. maybe its out of laziness (not having to think of outfits, no need to go shopping, washing, etc.), or frugal-ness(i find it hard to justify purchase if its just gonna hang in closet for ages)
Jaxon Reyes
2 black/white/gray 1 navy
Tyler Rodriguez
the colours can be shifted to other items e.g. instead of green tshirt, get green sweatshirt i think tshirts should be dark grey/black/navy anyway
Robert Bennett
I'll start buy coping a grey T-shirt I've been looking at for a while and see where it goes from there. Thanks!
Joseph Harris
It's one of the benefits of having a limited wardrobe. Although I could imagine many people on here if they're anything like me spend a bit more on pieces now.
Nathan Taylor
Same :(
Joshua Nelson
Any recommended Avant-garde brands that last a while, some have said CDG and Yohji in the last thread
Ethan Hughes
lemaire and issey can be quite similar to cdg and yohji in my experience
Adam James
Will take a better look at Lemaire thanks
Jordan Green
I've always wonder for people with capsule wardrobes, do you have to do laundry at the end of every week? I never wear the same shirt more than twice before throwing it in my hamper and with a limited ass wardrobe doesnt this become an issue?
Jaxson Stewart
Usually no. For me it's often once every two weeks, sometimes I wash in a week consecutively
Henry Reyes
Brands that take advantage of more technical fabrics are a go to.
John Fisher
Only makes sense with high-end designers like Ann D., CdG, Yohji. Their pieces are perfect for something like this.
Matthew Butler
>Only makes sense with high-end designers It's fine with any set of clothing you're comfortable with. But noticed the large consensus of CdG and Yohji wardrobes because they do fit so well to create a small wardrobe of pieces that can be worn year round and still be interesting
David Smith
Limits on outerwear? Like parkas, long coats, down jackets, etc?
Camden Rogers
...
Ryder Smith
fuck I could never do this I spend way too much of my money on buying shit in every online sale ever and poppin tags in marshalls weekly
Nathan Jenkins
Because they are all black which is often a go-to color for this type of wardrobe. Problem with "normal" clothes is that this monochrome combination looks not even boring, but blatantly lazy and uninspired if you don't wear any intersting pieces in your fit.
Evan Ramirez
Why? Do you genuinely wear everything you purchase?
Adam Morales
yeah, kinda I used to have a limited wardrobe back in high school but I got roasted for wearing the same jacket and pants all the time so I started buying a huge load of clothes
Easton Gomez
>I got roasted for wearing the same jacket and pants People still do this? Remember when I was in high school, one of my friends would always come in, in the same few shirts and pants and no one really cared. He as a pretty cool dude, desu
Jaxon Collins
Agreed, it's one of the advantages of wearing monochrome clothing, you don't have to worry so much about matching your colors, but can spend more time on your silhouette
Alexander James
It's not like I just buy shit clothes either, the marshalls where I am has good shit if you look close enough and often enough, i found a $450 north face shell jacket for like 100 bucks
Ayden Bennett
Any recommended boots? Never really bought any for myself before, but I would like to move from having all these sneakers.
Joshua Thompson
this is just so boring and depressing
Alexander Torres
Monochrome minimalism doesn't work with "normal" fits and clothes. Assaid you make normal fits even more boring by removing all the color from it. Want to go all black? Then people expect you to actually do something itneresting with it.
Jackson Smith
Pretty much this, which ties back why CdG and Yohji is so popular here.
Matthew Clark
I think cdg and yohji are easily some of the best brands to build a capsule wardrobe, here is why:
>huge variety of themes, cuts, styles and materials >brand history that goes back a few decades >consistent quality (although you might argue that it has declined over the years) >ranges from basic clothes for everyday wear to unique, eyecatching pieces >clothes work together very well even when crossing brands >a flourishing second-hand market, yet not popular enough for sellers to hike the prices up
is this the ultimate patrician wardrobe choice?
Liam Brown
G..guys what will we do once based Yohji dies? He is 80 already and sad af.
Daniel Anderson
How do you get into Yohji? What would be good place to start?
Connor Evans
he will not die delete this please
Sebastian Brooks
I'd say his pants are a great starting point because they work with a lot of other things, from there you can move on to his comfy wool knits and then finally to his outerwear such as the B I G suits and coats
try 2nd hand (grailed, yjp, rakuten). retail is way too high unless you get deep discounts (80%+)
lots of pictures are missing from the earlier days but there's a lot of info regarding seasons, materials, tag codes etc
have fun
Ian Butler
and I forgot to add that runway shows can also be a good way to understand what yohji goes for in his designs (although, as always, you should just wear what you like and not try to copy the runway). i've posted it before but ss99 is sublime and can be found on youtube.
also his womens line is arguably more interesting as is the case with many designers
Jordan Thomas
He's 74, that's like 40 in Japanese years
Cooper Lee
Even his mother lives still
Luke White
It's all that fish, rice, and green tea.
Nicholas Watson
Doesn't his daughter have her own fashionline? Never hear anything about her.
Isaac Turner
yes, limi feu - she has her own line and is sort of popular in japan
