How exactly is it functional?

Most people have pockets, keys in your pockets don't jingle as you walk.

I like keeping my keys seperate from things that could sustain damage from scratching, e.g. leather wallets, earphones and phones.
It frees up space in your pockets so that the bulkiness doesn't change the shape of your pants.
Plus it rarely ever jingles and when it does personally I really couldn't care less. It's not that functional but I definitely prefer it over carrying my keys in my pockets
