I wouldn't recommend the path because its a lot like gay culture, you age out of it at the speed of light and it doesn't segway naturally into the next "stage" of your life unless you plan on killing yourself. Look at cute emo scene/Asian performers and how they turned out, neither fish nor fowl after 30.
Also due to hormones its a fashion that you will actually get worse at, even though you are doing all the right things, you will look at pics from earlier where you looked better despite being more amateur. Its like being a woman but condensed into 5-10 years.
