Why are designer clothing sales assistants so snobby and rude?

Why are designer clothing sales assistants so snobby and rude?

I've never shipped designer instore. only online but I hear people often complain about this.

how much do they get paid? is it just like standard retail people or are they actually rich and get paid heaps to warrant the snobbery?

They're not rich but associating a lot with wealthy people gives them delusions that they're of the same class.
Also often its because they're wanting to make commission on a sale, and when really poor looking people show up they assume they won't be able to buy anything.

Because employees are an extension of the store and the label itself. The assistants determine how you perceive the brand and thus if they want to be a snobby elitist brand, they pick snobby elitist people.

In comparison most of the Pull&Bear or Zara employees are young women.

I was snubbed in a Chanel store once a long time ago when I was a trashy teenager and was pissed off at the time. Looking back she had every right as was dressed like shit and had little money.

They are trained to do that because it makes you feel insecure and more likely to buy X overpriced stock they tell you to.

Also

Honestly, never had an experience like that. I've walked in many designer stores and been treated kindly every time, even when I didn't buy anything.

i miss her bros

i was just in the SLP Vegas store recently and the employees were super nice, maybe you're just rude and they're being rude back lol

>Missing Melanie
I'm going to assume you mean Heather. The entire internet old enough to remember does too.

fuck i was wondering why she seemed familiar but not the heather i remember. she had glasses in a lot of her videos at least in the start

Yeah, you're thinking of Heather Harmon. Her friend is Melanie and/or Brooke. I can never remeber. The whole reason she was called Heather Brooke is because one of the old Limewire downloads had both girl's names in it.

Fuck now I feel old.

Ahem, Kazaa downloads, practically the same.

just thinking about limwire, kazaa, bearshare takes me back to the days i was downloading jenna jameson porn. her lesbian scene in the bathroom was goat

I think it's how I got to see the Paris Hilton sextape, Jenna Jameson on the boat and stumbled upon what looked like cp or atleast an old hairy man anal fucking this nice looking young redhead.

Fuck, I was on a 99 Gateway back then.

i remember being psyched for the paris hilton thing but it was such garbage. yeah there was tons of shady vids being shared in those early days, im glad that shits gone

There was like a golden fifteen second clip in that video. Yeah, the world is better off without it I guess.

I've read about this a lot but personally never experienced it myself. At most I was once ignored entirely, but I didn't mind because the store was full and there were a few what I assume were regular customers being treated to coffee and wine while I was setting foot there for the very first time.

did Melanie ever go on to do her own porn thing after ideepthroat?

does she have a different name she goes by for it if she does?

I always thought she was the hottest out of the lot of them.

>It's okay though, I deserved to be treated like shit
It's amazing the way we cope with the world around us

It's amazing how we misconstrue a statement to make ourselves look like babbling retards

you are particularly effective though, I'm impressed

I think she did a Girls Gone Wild video. Sex Starved College Girls I think, don't remember which volume.

I have experience in;
A local midrange luxury store. There were 2 or 3 staff working and no other customers, and the staff were busy, but didn't offer me a greeting or even look at me. I'm not sure if they abnormally occupied with something as I've only bee in once.
Barneys in SF. I was travelling light and didn't have many nice things to wear but the sales staff were pleasant and extremely helpful and friendly. The man I spoke to was wearing Fear of God clothing but complimented me on my Golden Goose sstars and we laughed about the duct tape model.
Margirela in SF. I spoke to a French (?) lady working there who also complimented me on my shoes and was very helpful, offering various items for me to try on despite the rest of my outfit being underwhelming. Interestingly, a very flamboyant male customer looked angrily at me a few times. I guess he was a regular there.
DSM (IT Market) in Beijing. Although the staff there couldn't speak English, they were pleasant and smiled at me as I browsed. When I met with a friend who was dressed poorly later though they gave him a funny look. It was interesting to walk up the stairs and see a Chinese lady trying on Vetements boots, then see her buying them and a few other things as I went down.

Because fashion is fucking cancer.

>Margirela in SF. I spoke to a French (?) lady working there who also complimented me on

I believe she was in Italy I was there like less than a month ago. Maby she was French I remember talking to her now I remember she was Italian. I have a game i play with myself sometimes downtown I try to try on the most expensive things I can in a day my record is 30,000 or some thing +-2k.

also the employees are super rude at Neman Marcus in SF.

You mean you think she was Italian, or you were in Italy and saw her there? Weird if the latter. She had a noticeable accent, but fluent English.

Shit on them when they are. I've paid retail for 1000's in rick with a stack of twenties and tens. I counted each bill out for like ten minutes and then 'lost count' and started over.

Fock 'em.

From Italy

It's more of a look you give off. If you dont look like you can afford anything, like you give off a vibe of uncertainty and that you are not actuall ycapable of buying anything. They want to make you feel bad for not buying anything, if you do have the money, let alone if you dont. They want to make you feel like you shouldn't even be in there, especially if you aren't already wearing designer clothes. If you are wearing shit normie clothes, they will sense it immediately an d shun you away, they don't want proles shopping in there, because it is bad business. When you are wealthy and like buying nice clothes that only wealthy people can afford, you dont want to see a low class hijab wearing immigrant couple pushing a stroller around looking for "deals".

This. They want you to feel like you have to "prove" that you're not poor and buy something or get out.

Been in everything from Rick to Chanel to Yohji to Margiela to CDG to Wooyoungmi stores, never been snobbed out like that. Most treat me nicely and often spark up the moment they know you actually know about their brand.

Maybe it's also that Tokyo has fantastic service culture across the board.

Ive gone into steetwear boutiques not wearing any lame hype shit and basically been ignored, but I assume it's because they thought I had stumbled into the wrong store lol
Once I was in downtown Minneapolis (huge workwear / Americana scene there) and asked a salesperson at a high end men's store if there were any Adidas Consortium stockists in the cities. He laughed
Doesn't bother me at all, I'm not there to impress anybody

Name matches your post perfectly

Ya think?
Really?

Wow. That's... Wow. I never thought of it like that. Shit, you're sharp. Do you think you could help me out with a reading of ulysses? I hate Joyce as it is, but Ulysses is just unreadable.

I could really use your sharp intellect.

Aside from shoes, I never buy designer at retail. I always wait for sales, secondhand, or homie discounts. But I still go to the shops to plan future purchases or look at current seasons. Sometimes I'm just board and want to Veeky Forumsg out and see the clothes I look at online. I'm 30 and I've been doing this since I was 18 with only one bad experience.

I'm from L.A., and I think on Rodeo they're used to gawking tourists and window shoppers. The other major high end drags are Robertson and (west) Melrose. SA's are still pretty chill there too. Just let em know that you're only window shopping/admiring (if you are), and don't waste their time asking to try on clothes if you have no intention to buy.

Ironically, the one place I was snubbed was the Melrose Fred Segal like 10 years ago, which is a pretty midrange shop that rarely has good shit.

Not at all, they get a. Clothing allowence but are paid hourly.

Same attitude geeks/nerds get when they get a job at GameStop

They can actually make pretty decent wages in high-end. Although I've only worked poorfag retail, my friends that work designer and high-end department stores rake in commission.

I'm not gonna argue about the elitism though, but I think you get that at the extreme ends of most industries. It's just more faggy and snarky in fashion, e.g., I would be rude too, if your sloppy fat ass came into my store.

'cause they can see you don't belong

As soon as you express that you are actually interested in buying something they tend to be very friendly and helpful. They are probably just used to people coming in with no intention of buying things.
