I need some suggestions for some decent hiking boots/work boots that can take a beating. They don't have to be pretty but they do have to be black

I'm in USMC. We hike a lot, and some brands we like are Danner, Belleville and Bates. I know they have black boots.

Military surplus boots. Australian manufactured infantry boots are the ones i currently have and i literally dont wear anything else. they're great for both hiking and my work, super durable and incredibly comfy. Im a bartender so i need boots that a) are waterproof, b) can handle chemical spills from cleaning and c) look good. infantry boots are all 3.

Anything from the last 10-15 years will be pretty much good to go immediately whereas any older than that really will need a fair bit of tlc.

caring for leather boots is pretty easy - if they're super tough when you get them then buy some Dubin or uncoloured leather moisturizer and lather that shit on, let it soak in overnight, and wipe off the excess in the morning. if they're super scuffed up then youll need black polish (whether you need parade polish or just a regular matte black depends on the finish of ur boots already).

If you cant quite find ur size then you can get a pair thats like maybe half a size too small and put a watertight bag of water inside and then put them in the freezer bc the water will expand and stretch the leather, but make sure you dnt bend the leather while its frozen + stiff or else you'll wreck it.

soz for wall of text im very passionate about boots

/out/ guy here, seconding Danner.

give me some legitimate reasons to wear hobnails boots.

explain to me what things like fully sprung and fell boot mean. they are bong terms. what are the purpose of such boots and their pros and cons?

Ann D, currently for sale.

Looking for 10-14' laced black combat boots/jumper boots. Any recommendations? (not meme martins). will post SFB pics in return if you want em.

Freds are very heavy. I like the larger holes in the brogue but lined with 3 layers of leather in the sole is HEAVY!

Are you tap dancing for spare change in New Orleans so your dad can buy moonshine?

Military style boots for under 200USD? I'm thinking something similar to the Common Projects Combat boots

Thoughts on these? I can cop a used pair for around $80 locally. Not sure if I should go for it.

What are you trying to wear it with, especially the fit on the pants? The shaft looks pretty wide for that height.

Probably just some dark slim fit denim jeans tucked into them, or over them. Sort of like pic related.

I think those only work well with straight denim

If you have a skinny legs you might want to be careful with pairing those with slim jeans. Just something to double check before you buy. It might look strange when you walk with a rigid boot outline and then a defined calf muscle.

You are probably right about that, but I do have straight leg too. I am wearing a pair with my Danners right now.

>give me some legitimate reasons to wear hobnails boots.
Shooting Swiss Rifles.

I love boots but only tan ones.
These are Diesel (I know) sneakerboots. I can't find them in my size anywhere

GI jungle boots. I prefer the ripple sole in pic related. Wore these for years in the army. I actually had them re-soled to ripples after i wore out the original soles.

Ring buckles are for homosexuals my guy.

Try them on to see if you can hide the shaft under the leg of your pants. That's my main criteria towards heavy boots like those.

On the same note, I wish men had more options for harness boots like pic related, it seems that women's outlets have taken them over.

What’s the general opinion on Trickers ? I have a pair of sneakers by them ( the Junya collab ) and they’re mad comfy and extremely well made, I’m curious if the boots are like that as well.

Y/n?

looking for an id on these (or something similar)

please and thank you in advance

Are shoe trees for zip ankle boots absolutely necessary?

Anyone know of something similar to what Riku is wearing?

outclassed in everyway by a solid commando sole
frye is pretty bad
brown leather is much more interesting imo. black stays black.

Jungle boots are good for summer. I have a pair of McRae jungle boots that are holding up very well, but Rothco boots are low-quality dogshit for airsoft kids.

The silhouette reminds me of European military alpine boots, but you'll only find similar buckles on engineer boots, which don't have laces.

Frye has good men's buckle boots if you're interested

Of you don't want the vamp to look like shit then yes

Are wolverine’s 1000 mile boots worth the price? I’ve heard mixed reviews, some say they age like shit. Anyone here have a pair?

Can't go wrong with Corcoran.

Looks like German military boots, with some belts slapped on them to look edgy. DIY that shit.

Already ordered a used pair of Kentucky Westerns, they're cheap and shitty but they were 30€ so I'll wear them until I feel sure enough to splurge a bit more on. Are Wescos any good?

Copped pic related, first pair of brown boots.

Is red wing still decent?

They look like gayer version of jackboots

Which is literally what they are. But I wouldn't go any taller than 10" with boots like that, unless my mudstomp-phase goes on longer in the future.

get some insoles. rw seconds are the gold standard for budget boots

I have this weird wrinkle where the two pieces of leather stitch together that pushes in too far so it rubs against my foot just below the ankle joint while I'm walking.

Is there any method to remedy this?

Do you guys know of any cool dr martens low type shoes?

thick socks. i'm guessing you got a size too big
rw postmans
if you don't mind losing the buckles bundeswehr and ddr jackboots are pretty cheap.

>i'm guessing you got a size too big
Nah, even with thick socks on the leather is actually creased so it pushes inwards, the right boot fits fine, just the left one is like that, I think it was crushed under something heavy on accident while it was being packed up or something that did that do it.

Can I work the crease out at all?

heel pads might help. very odd way of creasing though, looks like the heel cup might be at fault.

>Can I work the crease out at all
some people have tried heat guns but I wouldn't recommend it.

Yeah you can see when you put them next to eachother the right boot is fine while the left boot is dented in.

Would like stuffing the boot with some cloth so it doesn't dent in and using a steamy iron on it or something work?

I don't see anything that isnt normal wear.

If you somehow manage to straighten the crease it will just come back again in use. It could be caused by the construction, or how your foot fits inside or both

ugly af son

shafts never collapse in like that unless they're sized too large or have a massive heelcup.

i'd consider it a last resort if they're unwearable. no idea what could happen to the leather.

I did get them used from a surplus site, and just put new soles in them. So it could be wear from a previous owner, because they have been like that since I got them

>i'd consider it a last resort if they're unwearable
Eh, they were twenty bucks and a first dive into the question "do I enjoy wearing boots?" that I've been wondering about since I wore nothing but low ankled boat shoes, moccasins and sneakers before buying this pair.

I might as well give it a try, and then spend a bit more on my next pair anyway since I have concluded that I do like to wear boots.

I actually mind losing the buckles. I like buckles and straps. I'm a faggot for bikers and leather.

My Red Wings are great but either my right foot is wider than my left or my left boot is just narrower than my left.
How can I stretch leather to make it fit me?

I hear ya,
got any links for some?

Just got a pair of used combat boots that need cleaning. Is water and a toothbrush okay to use? What else should I do?

Spray them the fuck down, you can throw these assholes in the washer if they are truly fucked.

also throw the soles out and get some new ones if they can be removed. Yeah broken in boots are comfy as fuck but breaking in your own boots in the most important part is even better. you're only missing out on wearing in the leather or whatever fabric of the exterior is, and thats more of a story/attachment thing than comfort based. unless you crease the toes on your shit often and these don't have them/vice versa

>Spray them the fuck down
With what?

Brogue Timberlands, I like them but they're really heavy

Detailing is +

These too, more of a Gumby green in real life

Also not boots but made by Diemme, Italian leather +

Have the same boots, had the same problem. I just put a lot of conditioner on the outside and inside of where it hurt and it broke in after a week or so of light wear

Yeah water is fine. Once all the dirt is washed off, you should apply some quality boot grease such as Obenauf's heavy duty LP.

LP is not a grease. use something like lexol.

Red Wing vs Chippewa vs Wolverine

What's best quality overall, best price for what you're getting, looks best and which would you recommend?

>rw
good value on seconds, variety of leathers like hawthorne, interesting eu/jp exclusives (harvester, flatbox) leathers a bit plasticky first but weathers nicely
>chippewa
apaches best sub $100 boots
>wolverine
cheaper option for leather-soled service boots, slimmer toebox than rw
>thorogood
cheap moc toes,1892 solid iron ranger alternative

they're all solid but wolverine is slipping behind, $300 is not a terribly competitive price.

I have boots that are exactly like those (Durango) and can confirm they don't work with skinny jeans, they look pretty good with straight fit though.

Maybe for a Mad Max/D-beat/Mercyful Fate-inspo they work with skinny jeans.

So I've been looking into getting a pair of boots, from this thread what I've read is red wing seconds are what I should go after? I'm basically looking for something that I can wear everyday but also isn't too bad looking so that I could wear it into a bar or a nice restaurant (all I currently have is sneakers) and I can't be fucked with buying dress shoes.

Are RW seconds my best bet?

Brainlet here,. Are chelsea boots acceptable?

By whom?
In what occasion?
In which color and material?
Worn with what?
Worn at what time?
Worn in what climes?
In which geographic area?
Don't just go by what you see worn around you, either; go by whether or not something works for you and works in your area. Does it do what you want and not violate any obscenity laws? Then it's acceptable. Protip: not everyone is going to like what you wear, but most people will accept what you wear unless it's offensive or too outlandish (or out of uniform code for workplaces).

Need some help guys
I need a black daily beater boot - practical sole and preferably 6"+

the catch is that I live in an area with a a lot of ex/current military personnel and I am myself ex-military - and it's considered sorta cringey to wear combat boots/military gear at home so nothing too military-styled

Ideally would prefer to keep it under $300

fell boots are meant for foresters, fell is a uk term for a managed wood usually of pine, not sure about fully sprung but I would imagen theyre better for scrambling etc and chasing sheep over rocky ground

Of course. Some styles are a bit played out.
I picked up some nice combat soled, burnished dark brown Doucal's in TK Maxx for £80 last year.

Anything that's black, 6"+, and has a practical sole (i.e. it's gonna be a lug sole) is basically the definition of a combat boot to normies.

How tall is too tall for men?

Docs

Only if you're a homosexual or are LARPing as one

Above the knee is retarded unless you're actually a jockey. Just below the knee is fine for jackboots or similar. Otherwise more than 10 inches and you'll probably look like you're into bdsm

So 10 inches, because what kind of outfit can you even wear jackboots with

Anyone have any recommendations for boots similar to these? I'm looking for boots with a heel that have a slim looks to them. My feet are pretty huge compared to my body so chunky boots just don't look right on me.

I tried buying some red wings off grailed but they just dont look quite right.

Another pic, but I'm looking for black

Adidas x Barbour GSG9 boots
wew lad

How high is the shaft? Would you be okay with basic combat boots or something lower?

Sum1 Please Id these boots!

No logo or anything? It looks like quicksilver, where'd you get the photo
Haha I find the stripes kind of tacky but if Adidas is your thing go for it

Tan sneaker boots people, cop or not? Any recommendations

Autismo boots

Well it has that little white wave/mountaib logo in fron outer corner.
I took photo by myself, while I was in waiting line

You should have asked him mate. But they look like average hiking boots

I prefer anything mid rise and above as long as it’s not too edgy. I like those boots a lot except the logo on the tongue.

my dad has these boots. its decathlon

Oh shit I remember seeing this video when I was searching for vids of harness boots before I bought some

This is legitimate gay porn domination, I think the guy pisses or spits on his boots or something

To make conquest of Gaul easier

Look at viberg, if your wallet allows it. Whites also makes some boots that literally have a slim heel, similar to a cowboy boot.

I can get these 1000 miles for like 160, but is it worth it? I'm not in a spot to get new ones right now, but I want some brown boots. It's nice they're broken in, but some rubber has been added to the sole. Are the creases too bad? Will I be fine if I just put shoe trees in them?

...

The creases aren't too bad imo, I've had my 1000 miles for only a few months and they're pretty creased in the toes, and that's with shoe trees and almost always waiting a day between wears. But $160 for used 1000 miles seems a little steep, I got mine new for $200 and it's not too hard to find them for sub $250. I'd try to haggle the price a little

How'd you get 'em for that cheap?

Found them at some random menswear boutique in SF

Check Nordstrum rack if there's a spot near you, also look for malls that might have 50% off. I got RW for $140.
>I've had my 1000 miles for only a few months and they're pretty creased in the toes, and that's with shoe trees and almost always waiting a day between wears.
I also did this shit, but I have no creases, maybe it's sizing, maybe it's the way you walk, but mine are borderline perfect, just bit worn in

Shit, what store? I live in the bay.
