Look I'm agreeing with you. We know that it can't measure up to the rigor of physics, because we can torture rocks and projectiles and tops all day and it hurts no one except the physicists trying to figure it out.
But if we were to really study humans to isolate variables, we'd have to go well beyond the Nazi's in terms of experimentation. our best proxies today are small mammals. and while attaching printer heads to cats with their skulltops removed gets us pretty close to usable info, doing it to statistically relevant numbers of humans might be a tall order.
