> Decide to check out this cool french documentary on WW1 voiced by Mathieu Kassovitz called "The Apocalypse"
> First minute: George Lawrence Price was the last soldier to die
> It's time to stop

Why modern documentary are so full of shit ? Why don't they have any standard of quality ? What happened with being rigorous with facts ?

First, Lawrence Price is just one of the contender for being the last, there's many others claims, he's at best the "last" english man to die on November, 11th. Yet you have Trebuchon, Gunther, etc... does the documentary mention any of that ? Nop.

Also, and more importantly, it's fucking WW1 ! Do they think every soldier on the front have a fucking cellphone to know the war is over ? Do they think every holes have wireless internet to check on Armistice status ? Do they EVERY soldiers are just cool with it and won't try to kill just another kraut before leaving ?

There were war deaths MONTHS after the Armistice.

Now, as a teacher, am I suppose to show my students a documentary starting with a lazy lie ? Fuck modern documentaries, they are so much looking for the "little stories" they forget to talk about History.

and sorry for my awful english, i'm a frog

The German diaries of the Great War is on Netflix and is pretty good. The reenactment stuff isn't so good but it's just people's first hand accounts of the war so it's worth watching

It's probably the best way to get a good documentary but it's also lazy and lacks perspective.

The problem is simple, producers have decide long ago historians are bad storyteller so now they want "small History" with meaningless but "fun" facts told by miseducated journalists.

I played battlefield 1 closed alpha and can confirm all these docs are dead wrong. Most soldiers on the western front in WW1 were actually black women. Thanks based progressive dice for enlightening us to the true history of the great war

Actually, american documentaries are so proverbially bad, I'm willing to show an Ancient Aliens episode to my kids just so I can explain how you shouldn't trust everything you hear and show them the logical falacies.

But I'm actually pissed when it's french documentaries becoming this lazy and audience oriented.

Is there even one black woman in this game or are you just still bitching about the cover ?

Also murricans should actually ask themselves why they talk about WW1 so little and about WW2 so much. WW1 was, for them, a military humiliation and they tried to make people forget about it.

So what is the best WWI documentary to watch?

This one, hands down. But it's frigging long and slow.

>WW1
>American military humiliation

What

That's how i like them

Yes. The US joined the war pretty late and, more importantly, their soldiers lacked training and combat experience.

When the expeditionnary corp finally arrived in France, it became clear the soldiers were too weak to stand up on their own. The French and English military wanted to divide the american troops amongst their own divisions but Pershing, the US general in charge of the expedition, firmly refused.

He stayed back with his troops, refusing to take part of the "trench warfare" and favoring "open warfare" with mobile troops and possibly tanks if the french produced them fast enough.

This pissed off the French since Pershing announced his troops wouldn't be ready before 1919. Pershing was also angry at the French because they didn't segregate niggers like the US army did. Black US soldiers were extremely surprised to see how well they were welcomed in the French army and how niggers could have combat roles.

The humiliation came during the automn 1918 offensives, the US corp was so far successfull fending off the germans during spring so they tried to move around the Meuse to help Verdun. They managed to gain very little and had awful losses despite fighting a smaller number of germans.

France and England politely said their contribution was meaningful but now we look at things, we know they achieved pretty much nothing when the Armistice was signed. 126 000 americans died for this.

The real american contribution was financial.

Just make them play Battlefield 1.

>They managed to gain very little and had awful losses despite fighting a smaller number of germans.
That's how the front was like for the entire war idiot...

>That's how the front was like for the entire war idiot...
Not in 1918. By then the western allies had figured out how to fight this kind of war and were pretty damn good at it. The americans apparantly thought it was still 1914 and used outdated tactics despite being repeatedly told that it doesnt work. America managed to get worse casualty rates from 6 months of fighting a beaten and outclassed enemy than britain or france did over the entire war. Literally the russians of the west, not helped at all by having probably the worst commander of the entire war

>are you just still bitching about the cover?

Do you really have to ask?

You've missed the parts where all Americans are.cool saviours underdogs, bringing civilisation to Europe. And how ww1 was basically Britain ( and it's colonies) with the French "tirailleurs" against the evil germans

You literally play as a north african berber woman in multiple missions of the SP campaign, something which also did not happen IRL. The rest of SP and MP is filled to the brim with niggers unnecessarily.

Of course you're too dumb to realize why this is wrong on so many levels both morally and historically speaking, because you love seeing white history getting blackwashed like this.

I suggest you go back to tumblr.

>They managed to gain very little and had awful losses despite fighting a smaller number of germans.
It's like you don't understand anything about the Great War.

>a lot of soldiers died when attacking across barbwire and machine gun fire and Americans made some of the many many many mistakes Europeans had made in the first years of the war therefore AMERICA WAS UTTERLY HUMILIATED AND WANT TO FORGET ABOUT THE WAR LOL

>black people were in a war? FUCKING TUMBLER!

I'm not that guy, but it was pretty humiliating for america, they generally thought of themselves as being a top tier military nation and their only real military contribution to the western front was fresh bodies

>100 Days Offensive

I don't think you do

>they generally thought of themselves as being a top tier military nation

What?

The last war they'd fought with a foreign power was with Spain.

America was isolationist as hell.

>the worst commander of the entire war

Luigi Cadorna?

America insisting on doing things its way rather than listening to sound advice from their experienced allies is an unsettling trend, in WW2 they refused to adapt the convoy system or initiate coastal blackouts or make any meaningful anti-submarine preparations on the East Coast... and the second "Happy Time" happened.

>When the USA entered the War in April 1917, its army was short of heavy materiel, and had no tanks at all. Because of the wartime demands on French industry, it was decided that the quickest way to supply the American forces with sufficient armour was to manufacture the FT in the USA. A requirement of 4,400 of a modified version, the M1917, was decided on, with delivery expected to begin in April, 1918. By June 1918, US manufacturers had failed to produce any, and delivery dates were put back until September. France therefore agreed to lend 144 FTs, enough to equip 2 battalions. No M1917s reached the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) until the War was over.

They tried.

Tanks were not that important

They were at the end

Similarly the reason the CSRG has a bad reputation is because the US insisted on a .30-06 version. Somewhere along the line the metric conversions got screwed up and thus the Chauchat gets called the worst machine gun ever by mouth breathers.

Ironically the 1918 .30-06 version had a fully enclosed magazine, fixing one of the main complaints about the gun.

And on a similar note, the real reason the BAR didn't get deployed with US troops until after the war ended wasn't because they were afraid the Germans would capture them, but because the heat treating on the receiver was fucked up and there were only a few thousand "safe" rifles out of the 52,000 they sent over. (The M1903 rifle has the same issue with low serial number rifles)

>Why modern documentary are so full of shit ?

it's not just documentaries; all of the west functions on intellectual dishonesty and misrepresentation in order to advance arguments that are ideologically-based. whether red pill, blue pill, or any other pill, truth is too complex to be convenient. never be content with what you know.

>north african
>black

Is she an actual enlisted soldier in a professional army or something? What's her actual role? Because black women definitely did exist in north africa back then, the idea of one having some role in WWI isn't really that absurd. It's really up to what her role in the story is.

that guy's a 1850 - 1950 berber specialist, he knows what he's talking about, even when details from the game developers haven't been released yet

I don't think you grasp how much Wilson was borderline deified in Eastern Europe

She's a bedouin, as far as im aware nothing is known about her story
