It didn't matter what qualifications you had. You could literally do anything. Something needed to. be done, an ad hoc team was formed, everyone helped out to the best of their ability. You'd be surprised what you are capable of if you put your mind to it. (the technical term is perfect substitution of labor, or infinite labor elasticity)

The young people would be motivated. Their job was revolution. Forming committees, singing patriotic songs. Everyone was made to feel that their contribution mattered. The ditch you are digging in this faraway village, you were doing your part. The peasant children you were teaching to read, you were doing your part. It was fun. You missed school for three years to engage in revolution. It's literally every teenager's dream.

Maybe it turned out shit. But for the early parts it was like Veeky Forums when it was good. We were all doing something that had never been done before, we realized this and relished in the moment. None of it even matters now. But we're still here. We still remember.

Compare that to capitalism, working all day for no purpose, not caring if one lives or dies, dreaming of one day having a goal in life. Having to fight tooth and nail against barriers to entry; in reality almost every profession is closed to you, before you even considered it, years of preparation, years of tuition. All payed out from a finite sum of time. Maybe it's not the best way. Maybe it's not efficient. But alot of those untrained kids who were sent to build bridges ended up becoming engineers. A lot of those barefoot teachers became real teachers. A lot of those red medics became real doctors. But go through the normal process, many would never have come close. Because you don't know how good someone is simply by school or recommendations. You know when they just fucking do it.

All thats great but in reality you're in a factory 15 hours a day 6 days a week and have no time for anything else. And trying to change things will likely get you shot.

Compare to capitalism where im making 3k a month from my youtube channel.

As a descendant of decent party officials I can tell you, the good communists never took any favors for themselves or their families.
