Jesus Christ what's up with all the swordhate shitposting lately? Are we getting raided by Veeky Forums or something?

Some spear obsessed guy is really mad.

He just wants to be contrary.

Even fucking Reddit knows swords were dog shit.

They were made of metal.

Why does that spergster call PTSD "battle fatigue" anyway?

Because that's old term for PTSD dumb fuck.

There's no reason to be a spastic and use an old, outdated term. It's like using the term multiple personality disorder when the modern agreed upon term is dissociative identity disorder. There's no fucking reason for it is what I'm getting at. Use the modern term and don't be a high and mighty der older weys wer beddur weys

So were spears.
Arrows were originally for hunting.
Several asian weapons were farm tools.

Whats you're point?

>There's no reason to be a spastic and use an old, outdated term.
It's his shtick though.

Just an angry one aren't you?
Yeah go ahead and use your spear, but only do it if you are one of many spear users in a formation, in an army, you've probably never fought with a real spear so I assume you don't know how easy it is to sidestep a thrust and close in, it is simple, almost comedy.
But If you really like spears due to their effectiveness in destroying mounted soldiers I would agree, but better than swords? No, not overall my dude

It's a shitty shtick, it's uninformative and misleading.

He explicitly states why in his video.

It's because battle fatigue, as the name implies, is a result from battle.
PTSD can be a result from any shocking experience, e.g. a car crash.

Since he's on the topic of war, he uses the term 'battle fatigue' to avoid unwanted generalisation.

spears were specialised weapons of war, ideal for using in formations and for cavalry charges.

swords were personal side-arms for self-defense, also used in wars as a secondary weapon if formations broke. also during sieges in close combat.

Yeah, I actually like Lindybeige but everyone on here constantly tries to tear him a new one I have no idea why

He's British, and eccentrically, archetypally British at that.

It's because, whilst his videos are interesting and he's a great presenter, he has a bad habit of making unfounded conclusions based entirely on either his LARP experience or his own gut instinct.

This wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing in and of itself if only he came to these conclusions after having consulted other sources and drawing the most likely conclusion from all available evidence instead of just going 'Well I reckon that's right so it must be!'.

Furthermore he's a real condescending armchair general type and that rustles a lot of jimmies on here. I like him but I understand why other people on this board don't.

That is... Reasonable? Still misinforms people and he really ought to just call it PTSD, because it's legit whether it's from war or not.

He's misinforming so, so many people and we'll have a whole new generation of Veeky Forumstorians who base their views on meme youtubers who get more things wrong than right on shaky evidence. I don't despise him, I mean I hate his overly British nature because it's obnoxious, but I don't hate the guy. But his constant shit it's just starting to wear on me.

I should add that I reckon he's at his best when he plays to his strengths. His videos where he ruthlessly nitpicks historical movies, shares humorous or informative stories or lets other people do the talking for him tend to be great.

My favorite of his is his short analysis of The Iliad where his skill for presentation and clear passion for the topic itself shines through. youtube.com/watch?v=aofPdMbXzUQ

I think there's a misconception with Lindybeige, that when he says something he means that it is definitely true. It seems to me, at least, that most of the time he's just suggesting hypotheses by drawing from his own experiences and education, but does a bad job of communicating that fact.

British people aren't all bad though, they built a civilization, so there's one.
I didn't know this, the only videos that I really listen to by him are ones that don't really involve fighting, I really enjoyed the one he did about farming forest, what a medeval forest would look like.

>please dont tell me he exaggerates that shit too

>he has a bad habit of making unfounded conclusions based entirely on either his LARP experience or his own gut instinct

He has an archeology degree though. Even though archeologists find a lot fo weapons, we have very little idea on how they use them. Reconstructing them, trying them out in enacted fights can actually give you some ideas about that, it's probably more useful then trying to find it out from chronicles and artwork (which were mostly created by people who weren't fighters, most of them probably never saw a battle). Look up experimental archaeology for further info.

Oh, I personally am British - and I certainly take no objection to his mannerisms. However, I know that a lot of people (most often Americans in my experience) find the British demeanour and sense of humour quite obnoxious.

It's accurate enough, for England. Central/Eastern European forests were, as far as I know, untouched and wild until not too long ago. Therein is another problem of his, English history = universal history. It's really a bothersome quirk of his. His videos on torches were great, though, I'll give him that.

I don't know man, I think that's dumb, I have respect for any race who has done anything great.
And you shouldnt worry about what most of Americans think because most of Americans rn just listen to rap and play a Pokemon cell phone game.

>He's misinforming so, so many people

got any examples

That is a relief, I will have to watch that torch video after work today, I mainly like scholograditoria for fighting, he always thinks out of the box, and never leaves out grappling potential in a weapon or all of it's uses.

youtube.com/watch?v=otCfAuuG92g

my favorite vid of him atm

His archery videos. Complete nonsense. If I vaguely recall correctly, he says that you need to be reaaally strong or something to effect to draw 120 pounds and there are diminishing returns after 120 pounds. Now, I don't know about you, but I don't exercise, I'm a lazy piece of shit, and I can lift ~55 kilograms pretty easily. Just look for modern bows that take more than 120 pounds of draw, too. The impact is not insignificant.

Link to the video?

>Actually, axes were very seldom used in battle, and when they were, the soldiers would only use the blunt side so they wouldn't damage their axe. Also, the British invented axes

I don't understand the problem. He explains very simply and clearly why he uses battle fatigue in the video. To have used PTSD would have been inappropriate and inaccurate, as he was specifically referring to the disorder resulting from battle.

>sidestep a thrust and close in
This is not easy. Well, sidestepping is. Closing in safely, not so much.

Let us assume that he is using a spear one handed, with a shield. This shares many techniques with sword and buckler, such as keeping your two weapons close to each other. You use small jabs, rather than full force thrusts. It is also laughably easy to pivot step in order to bring your point on-line again if he tries to sidestep. A full lunge, yes, that you can sidestep and it is difficult for the spear user to recover, but that is why lunging is a thing you do only when you know you will kill your opponent and remain safe.

A spear in two hands would allow you to perform wide swinging arcs as well, because a spear is a staff with a pointy bit and staff techniques work just as well with a spear. As for thrusts, it is even easier to bring your point on-line should he sidestep, given the extra control you have.

t. HEMA practicioner

the opposite, actually.

you realise that using your whole body to lift 55kg is not the same as using one arm?

Fishing sticks were weapons though.

They evolved into fencing

He says things like

>nobody used axes in combat

Which is blatantly false based on a ton of evidence. And he only comes to that conclusion because of his personal experience as a LARPER. Utterly asinine.

Where was that said?

well being 140 pounds of course u dont use axe, maybe tomahawk though.

kmeeeehehehehe

youtube.com/watch?v=boioSxBIkfk

Here he talks about battle axes and seems to admit their existence. Maybe he contradicts himself elsewhere but that would be weird.

youtube.com/watch?v=hqtp08ZSAYE
Here he says that DOUBLE-BITTED axes were not used in combat. Which is admittedly wrong, but not the same thing as saying that axes weren't used in combat.
youtube.com/watch?v=WDwsDn6M-pU

>no one used fire arrows ever
>no one used axes in battle
>no one used phalanxes or spears
>no one did anything

kmao

top kek

don't forget that 90% of soldier shoot to miss

What the fuck? Multiple Personality Disorder is the modern term you retarded fuck.

Dont forget, the battle of Zama never happened!

He argued against that theory for fuck's sake. Do you people just read the titles then come immediately to shitpost on here?

yes, i actually quite like his videos

Name some instances of double edged axes used in combat.

Honestly, I think the Beige man himself is aware of Veeky Forums, and is intentionally naming his vids as bait.

Pic related, he's already proven his skill at the art of bait.

Should E celeb threads get banned on Veeky Forums?

>lindy is an e celeb

Huh? You can "lift" 55 kg? Deadlifting 55 kg should be something a particularly tiny woman is capable of. Cable rowing 110 kg on the other hand can be pretty hard.

Have you ever fought or trained with any type of polearm? doesnt sound like it

>>no one used axes in battle
>>no one used phalanxes or spears

what? where did he say this? He also has a video where he talks about the misrepresentation of axes in hollywood, like double-bitted axes and huge blades when in fact they were thin and rather small.

>it is simple, almost comedy.
Oh, another angry one who knows jackshit.

What's his job outside of youtube? Archaeology?

>Archaeology
Not even close.

I think he used to be a lecturer of sorts

not sure if he still does that

he might be a NEET

Wasn't he a dance teacher or something?

Yeah, this. Though I'd imagine he makes a pretty penny from his Youtube videos alone.

>make 8 minute videos showing that Hollywood is retarded when it come to historical details
>make American watchers feel smart
it's like "I F*cking Love Science!", but with history

I would actually enjoy a class where Lindy was the lecturer. It would be very entertaining and, in today's climate, he would intentionally bait.

Depending on how many use adblock he may be earning quite a lot or just scraping by.

Depending on how much time he puts into the channel, that may be pretty good in terms of $/hour. Plus, he has the Patreon. I doubt it is his full-time thing, but it probably seriously helps him out in pursuing hobbies.

Damn, that's quite a lot. That's in GBP as well - our average is only £25,000.

When you said GBP, I thought you meant 'Good Boy Points'.

What else could it mean? The entire British currency runs on Good Boy Points. The Queen allocates them personally.

It isn't his full-time job, his day job is camera operating.

>it's a lindy has no sound argument against the central motivations of vegetarians blog post
