Was Mussolini all that bad? The impression I get from him is that he was a decent leader, but gambled in allying with Germany expecting an easy war and ended up losing.
Aside from that, I can't really recall anything that bad about the guy. You never hear about Italian fascist execution squads or any persecution of minorities. He reigned for a fairly long time and it seems like Italy did quite well under his reign until they entered WWII.

Even before WW2, he lost a third of the entire Italian army invading Ethiopia, which provided him with absolutely no advantages in terms of strategy or resources and basically destroyed Italy's international reputation.
Well it was good for him personally & his military bully underlings, so it worked out in that sense. It's funny (but horrible) how much fascists shriek about the value of their great nation but do not hesitate at all to toss away their countrymen and all their work to advance their own agendas. Probably he's retarded as "not so bad" because he wasn't that good at being a dictator. He got himself the favor of the masses but most of his power came from the abysmal stupidity first of all of the king and of the other political parties. We also all know about his poor decisions.
