Indeed, it is the magnum opus of 01 and it would have been a disgrace if they treated it like any other episode (which could happen when it comes to H-OVAs). Hell, it looks to have more budget than any other Alicesoft adaptation.

I finally finished 03 after dropping the trial back when it first came out because the VA choices triggered me. I definitely had my fun with it, but it really doesn't come close to the other large scale RPGs of the series, namely R6 and R9.

The battle system is simply baffling, why would they give so many characters only to limit you so much with skill slots? There are many interesting skills you never use, because the space for them is so limited and you're better off just using 0-T cooldown attacks with maximum coverage spells. In effect, all combat amounts to holding CTRL and mindlessly choosing the same reliable skills in every encounter. Actually I would rate what little I remember of the system of 01 higher since there was more strategy involved in these chips, also the final boss in that game gave me at least some trouble (speaking of final bosses, I really can't remember what 03's final boss theme sounded like and I just heard it two hours ago, it was that forgettable).

The re-used ADV presentation of 01 fits this game badly, having only one actual sprite on the screen was alright for 01 where most dialogues were 1-on-1, but in 03 they try to simulate R9-style battles with this scheme and the result is laughable. The narration can be as dramatic at it wants, at no point does it feel like a huge battle or something of the like is taking place with these sprites shifting all over. I sorely missed variations of the main sprites, and the complete lack of animation in that regard is no plus point. There are very few non-H CGs, I thought the one from the original with Sill and Rance looking at the castle near the end of the game was a bit iconic for it, but since it didn't make it into the remake, I must have been mistaken.

As for the story and characters, I assume enough has been said on here (btw I don't see why they felt the need to practically copy two characters from R6 here, i. e. the green bug girl and the sleeping one).
