I barely know what I'm doing with really simple AI
Henry Foster
Yes something like that, or if anyone here have ides on bosses/monsters
Ty for the link
Nolan Clark
Real AI is actually quite easy, technologically speaking (if we're talking about machine learning) The hard part is teaching it things. I think machine psychology will probably be the next big field of research in a decade or so.

thanks for the feedback - i've noticed depth is a big ol' problem in this one. I've changed the particle effect so its less transparent but it's still hard to judge.
Any other tips on how to do depth properly? I might just cave and rip off Tempest altogether...
Ian Bennett
Guys with 2D games, how do you store level data in files?
Like which tiles/blocks/textures go where and so on.
How do you edit them easily? Do you make yourself an editor or do you edit it all manually?
Brandon Hall
Anyone have some nice ideas for fonts?
Want to spruce up my text, make it stand out but not in a "wacky way" more of a "that's not Arial/Open Sans" way.
I'm talking, sans-serif type stuff mainly, free/open source if possible. I don't really want anything that makes you think about the font, but still something that stands out a bit if you get me.
Daniel Carter
add borders to it
Andrew James
I'd rather not. To distracting and messy.

Brandon Reyes
lmao it doesn't even demo gameplay. jelly much of his skills?
Anthony Flores
what do you mean "ideas for fonts"
you're literally asking someone to go out, find a good font and spoonfeed it to you
do you want me to put all the fonts together in a nice image that you can peruse before selecting the perfect font??
jesus christ
Dominic Anderson
it could be done in multiple ways. basic 2d array for tiles and layers or object array.
if you want to work with an existing editor, use something like Tiled Map Editor and create a class to import that into your game.
if you're working with unity there's a bunch of tile map editors on asset store.
Ayden Jenkins
What do layers mean in this sense?
Brody Gray
Chill. Just asking for some recommendations Maybe find out of some fonts people tried that worked great for their game, or indeed terribly.
Always good the get some perspective from other people when you are working alone. What I think might work others might think horrible after all.

Anyone have some nice ideas for background colors?
Want to spruce up my graphics, make it stand out but not in a "wacky way" more of a "that's not Cornflour Blue" way.
I'm talking, easy-on-the-eyes stuff mainly, low contrast if possible. I don't really want anything that makes you think about the color, but still something that stands out a bit if you get me.
Want to spruce up my characters, make them stand out but not in a "wacky way" more of a "that's not Merchant / Soldier02" way.
I'm talking, easy-on-the-ears stuff mainly, common if possible. I don't really want anything that makes you think about the name, but still something that stands out a bit if you get me.
Want to spruce up my controls, make it stand out but not in a "wacky way" more of a "that's not arrow keys + Z/X" way.
I'm talking, keyboard keys type stuff mainly, two-handed if possible. I don't really want anything that makes you think about the controls, but still something that stands out a bit if you get me.
Leo Morales
Anyone have some nice ideas for shit posting?
Want to spruce up this thread, make it stand out but not in a "wacky way" more of a "low quality" way.
I'm talking, copy-pasted type stuff mainly, with only a few edits if possible. I don't really want anything that's actually related to amateur game development, but still something that gets a (You) if you get me.
Jacob Baker
Loving this meme. Possibly even an 8/8.
Jackson Flores
Anyone have some nice ideas for sound effects?
Want to spruce up my game's audio, make it stand out but not in a "wacky way" more of a "that's not growl2.wav" way.
I'm talking, low-pitched type stuff mainly, no static/interference if possible. I don't really want anything that makes you think about the sound, but still something that stands out a bit if you get me.
Carson Robinson
How do I do mouse input in UE4?
I want to select multiple entities by dragging a box around them
Hey, this is a shot in the dark, but if anyone with cash they don't care about and an idea wants me to help them prototype it so they can see their idea in motion, reply with a contact and we'll talk. In dire need of money, and I'm pretty good with 2D stuff, so.
David Jenkins
Anyone have some nice ideas for motivation?
Want to spruce up my dev progress, make it stand out but not in a "wacky way" more of a "that's not dedication > motivation" way.
I'm talking, easy-to-clean stuff mainly, insertable if possible. I don't really want anything that makes you think about the sensation, but still something that pleasures a bit if you get me.
Jordan Perry
Anyone have some nice ideas for low effort games?
Want to spruce up my portfolio, make it stand out but not in a "wacky way" more of a "that's not another rock paper scissors rehash" way.
I'm talking, really shallow type stuff mainly, no gameplay if possible. I don't really want anything that makes you think about having fun, but still something that stands out a bit if you get me.
Connor Smith

Daniel Torres
here you go my friend.

layers as in background, walls, items on the ground, player and enemies, then visual effects layers. etc
having collidable units in one layer or two will make it easier.
Ryan Martin
Hello. aggydaggy. I am making a game that uses tiles and for now i am storing the maps as int arrays where each number represents one type of tile. But for each map i have an array for the terrain, one for the buildings and one for the units. If i want 50 maps and the average map size is 10x10 tiles then this will mean my file containing all the arrays will be 1500 lines of just map data. Wont that be really hard to navigate? Is there any other way to do this?
Asher Rivera
I want to start simple, so on the XZ plane.
Robert Martin
rock paper scissors but without the scissors
Daniel Harris
ty my friend
Mason Torres
Well then just project mouse from camera onto this plane, and generate a box collision through vector differentiation
Michael Reed
wait
wait
rock paper scissors
but without the scissors
AND AND
AND
without the ROCK!!!
Jaxon Barnes
Store it in binary and use a specialized program to edit the map, like Tiled.

Anyone have some nice ideas for nauseating camerawork?
Want to really give them VR fags what they deserve, make them suffer but not in a "I'm quitting" more of a "This game is so good but muh VR is ruining it" way.
I'm talking, seasickness stuff mainly, unique if possible. I don't really want anything that makes you think about the camerawork, but still something that really fucking sucks if you get me.
Angel 2D dev Day#5: Did some bullshit with the camera, there's more to this than I'd have imagined engine isn't fit for 3D. I think I struck the right kind of annoying right here. Upgraded my movement system to a more normal position+velocity kind of thing that allows for rapid turns if you slow down. Started building my framework for effects and did some planning on the enemy types/overall gameplay system. hopefully I can keep my hands off netcode
Christopher Reyes
what if we remove paper then we got no game no game - no problems
Adrian Perry
why not make a good game instead?
Adrian Barnes
I was just trying to meme like you guys ;_; This was the best I could do today.
Ethan Miller
How would i store it in binary? I would still need a huge file and a huge switch statement for map selection, right?
Connor Cook
This gives you the mouse location on a plane. Generate a box off of that.
Cameron Martinez
It's okay, user. With practice you too will be a world class aggy shitposter. Just remember to shitpost in moderation and sprinkle in some progress now and then.
Brandon Wilson
You really should learn a real engine before attempting this
Levi Jackson
>I would still need a huge file You're storing 10*10 ints for each map and 50 of those maps.
That's 20 Kilobytes of file. >hard to navigate No not really. Just memory map the file and read in 10*10 ints at every 10*10*4 pointer in the range.
>how would I store as binary Depends on your language.
Jacob Cruz
>googum telling someone to learn a real engine

>The Gogem wat
Jaxon Torres
>I would still need a huge file and a huge switch statement for map selection, right? Logically you only need 50 files of 1,2 kB to store fifty maps of 3 * 10 * 10 datawords. You shouldn't need a huge switch statement for map selection.
>How would i store it in binary? Sorry but I can't really be bothered to dictate an implementation. If you can't figure it out, just keep it as it is because storage space isn't a big concern. I don't know whether Tiled demands some specific format either, I don't use it myself.
Ryder Ward
So, if I am to start making games, I should start with stuff that is simple right. Make pong on gamemaker and stuff?
Asher Moore
No, you should start on your dream MMORPG role playing game.
Adrian Watson
Thanks for all the help guy. Yeah i am not too worried about the size of the file. I guess i should have been more specfic. I meant that it will be a 'huge' file to try and read trough to check the maps if anything is wrong or if i changed something etc.
Jayden Johnson
>guy wow way to come off as a cunt
Joseph Jenkins
pls no bully.
Samuel Walker
You wouldn't need to read through the file if you used Tiled, it's a map editor.
Asher Wood
>guy Asshole.
Sure if you don't know what the fuck you're doing just don't bother with the file at that point.
Ryder Long
>guy
What the fuck did he do to you?
Nicholas Cruz
Oops. Guys* (is this some meme or did i actually offend you? Not native english speaker here)
Ryan Mitchell
I was talking nicely to you. Is every one here a rancid asshole?
Sebastian Reed
It's shitposting.
Adam Butler
Yeah, they're just memeing. But "guy" can sound condescending when you refer to the person you're talking to like that.
Gavin Gray
i got you dog
Logan Lee
I can't tell if this is some >she meme or if you thought i was being sarcastic because i forgot the "s" in guys. Anyways thanks for the help! I think i've found a way that will work for my game :)
Ryan Foster
>now he's going to rip off e-card
can you make something original for once in your life?
Anthony Jones
don't you have games to make, you """yesdev"""?
Benjamin Hughes
that's not how E-Card works R>P>S>R: even amount of each E>C>S>E: even amount of E and S with more Cs B>A>W: even amount of each
Jayden Martinez
I see you've familiarized yourself with the concept so you can steal it more easily.
Dylan Martinez
