Koboldev will evolve into Vivedev soon (two months from now)! Technically I'll be a professional gamedev then but I'm still an amateur so I'll still be coming here!

i don't get it

you were making a game with html, javascript and jquery

why the sudden jump to c++ (or at least c#) virtual reality programming?

why would your "work" even invest in a goddamn VR game? where do you even work?

Where's your TGTF game?

I'll still be doing Kobold Adventure! I'll just also be developing virtual reality stuff. I do various projects for various companies (not just webstuff!), and the company I'm doing stuff for now is rather impressed with my work. They asked if I had any innovative ideas, so I gave them a nifty Vive game idea and they decided to make it happen. They're not really 'investing' in anything, they're just paying for my equipment as an extra "thank you for doing the work of our six man team by yourself in half the planned time saving us a tonne of money"

cute name even if godot is a meme engine

i hope nobody is buying this lmao

1) how do I get a job like this
2) what do I have to learn
3) is your line of work sustainable or are you effectively homeless until you find someone in need of your skills?

i give up

start again

I'm going to start today. I hope you have fun in my dust.

He's lying.

Get this ...

Risk of Rain, but it's topdown

seems kool

start working on it

Binding of Isaac but it's a sidescroller

> trying to implement server side logic

Do I even need this, fuck.

Couldn't sleep, and I wanted to work on boss AI. The up-ice attack is now less shit and you have more of a reason to use it during the fight (to give incentive of using it on the boss to make it learn it), however I am not used to how it works right now and I always confuse myself when using it. If it knows how to do the up-ice attack, it will use it while doing its jump-good attack. All that's left is figuring out conditions for it using down-ice, and fixing the slash attack a bit.

An Undertale MMO.

looks juicy even without sprites

fuck off dark souls shitter

>State: How I feel every day
>State: Just like my hopes and dreams

You have a lot of useful information displayed. I should do something like that. (I say this every time you post but I never really implement it).

...

I want to be turned into a cute dog.

>meet some guy for collab
>he asks me what i want
>tell him i want to make a small game, something short-term to evaluate everyone's committment and skills
>he tells me no one will spend time on making a small game in a collab
>i tell him how the fuck you gonna make a large scale game if you don't even know what the person from other side of the screen is capable of
>2 weeks later
>collab didn't write a single line of code

lol you'd probably end up like this one

>only games with cute anime girls get to be in agdg magazine

should i just give in and change my main character to an anime girl?

If you really want to get /agdg/'s attention, you should forget about game dev and become an artist.

Still working on it user

you forgot the part about pixel/lowpoly art and porn

That looks sick, even with placeholders

Thanks user. Having everything be rectangles makes player feedback on things happening a nightmare sometimes so I had to fancy things up a bit.

It's pretty useful. I don't know how I could live without it.

Can you prototype a game and implement it faster in Unity or UE4 with blueprints? Never used UE4 before, but it looks like blueprints can speed things up. Anyone here that used both engine extensively and can give a reason why they like one over the other?

that looks nice user

i like the rainbow attack power up

itch.io/jam/agdg-demo-day

so this is the original demo day

what happened to these games? did any of them survive?

will the same fate befall our own demo day games? how can we prevent it from happening again?

That won't guarantee you will be in AGDG magazine. The best way is to make the magazine yourself then you get to choose who is included.

All the devs went to a better place

You know the one

Unless you don't in which case forget about what I said

>how can we prevent it from happening again
Just Like (Keep) Making Game

sourcerobe continues
deadbolt was released and flopped
aeriannis was released and flopped

Released:
Aerannis
Deadbolt

Definitely Still in Dev:
Infinite Oasis
Feather Buster
Gwyn
Sorcerobe
Marmoreal

RIP or Whatever:
the rest

1) Get a college degree and make a name for yourself as a hard working student. Companies WILL notice!
2) All of the programming languages and frameworks. All of them. Just for this project alone I had to use Lua, Java, C, JavaScript, PHP, shell scripting, jQuery, ExtJS6, Hibernate, Spring, ActiveMQ and PHP.
3) It's as sustainable as you are good at programming. If you are a shit programmer and you take far too long to make stuff, then being an independent programmer will not fare well for you. If you are a good programmer and can get shit done to the client's specifications using whatever framework they want you to use, you'll get contract after contract after contract!

>Definitely Still in Dev:
>Marmoreal
what

>make a name for yourself as a hard working student. Companies WILL notice!
so I haven't even graduated and I'm already fucked

Post Demo Day 8 games you think will survive to full made game.

You're not fucked, user! Don't give up hope! Just enter some programming competitions or host an event or just do anything that'll garnish your college some positive media attention! I won a big national programming contest once and that pretty much put me on the map for good! Or just get very high grades or something that might work I guess? I always passed my classes, but I never got really amazing grades.

i'll prove you wrong user

i'm going to make it!

you'll see!

Have seen marmodev in non-Veeky Forums related IRC...

Maids and Demos, just because the dev has stuck with it so long already.

>tfw bullies are the reason we can't enjoy marmo's

Do you seriously believe anyone's buying this shit? If you got a loan from your mom, just say you got a loan from your mom, don't do this chuuni shit.

>maids and demos
lol oops

who the fuck *loans* money from their parents? don't they just give you money when you ask?

>greaserdev ever finishing a game
might as well uncross those fingers m8

If I got a loan from my dead mom I'd be the first to tell /agdg/ about it! The only lie I've told thus far is that I actually only won second place in that contest.

Did the guy that made Suburban champion ever post again? I had posted some ideas for it when he asked for advice on improvement, but thread died shortly after that and I never knew if he had even read my post.

what

Hey guys
Doing some bounding shape generation (specificly for generating uv coords)
I can handle AABB and thats fine for general axis-aligned shapes (A, B), but for some shapes thats not particularly efficient (C) and you really want to go for the minimal bounding rectangle (D), and I can probably handle that

Ofc, convex hull is going to be the best for efficiency (E), but I must get a 4-point result.
Is there any known way to calculate such a shape (F) ?

[calculation speed is irrelavent]

Is she cute?

Looks like that trainer from pokemon

No.

In the national programming contest, user!

post the contest and your entry or stop roleplaying and fuck off

honestly you are as bad as sourceposter

How is each shape represented? A connected list of points? A set?
Are there any other constraints aside from "the bounding shape must be made up of 4 points".
Do some lines of the bounding shape need to be parallel?

What you want to minimize is the area of the bounding 4-point shape/rectangle.
If calculation speed is irrelevant, just create a random bounding shape and move the points randomly until you get the smallest area.
A classic optimization problem. Of course, i'm sure there are much better ways using geometry and math.

>tfw taxes for neets soon
pls take me away

oh

what?
pls link what you're talking about I don't wanna pay taxes

>taxes for neet
explain. i thought you were getting basic income

Unless you're also in Russia, you've got nothing to worry about. Except if you're in Belarus, from where this practice is being adopted from.
> i thought you were getting basic income
hahahahahaha

As said before, if calculation time really doesn't matter a genetic algorithm might provide a good result. Otherwise, a simple bounding box will probably provide a satisfactory result. You could try rotating the shape a few times to see if it can fit within the bounding box better, which is a lot easier to implement than a genetic algorithm.

>Please tell me who you are in real life

No thanks

Besides, it wasn't an
>enter something, receive rewards
kinda contest. It was a
>Make these excercises in this timespan and whoever gets the most right wins
kinda thing.

>russia
for one moment i though this mattered

There are at least 5 russian devs in this thread. Do you want us to starve to death and never get another chance to bless this thread with quality, russian funposting?

Thanks senpai's makes me happy to see people think Bokube will be made game. Bokube dev here. Finished the desert world working on the snow world of the game. The first level of any world introduces a new trap, or enemy to jump over so I made these spinning red rotor blade that moves up and down out of the ice water below each snow level.

Later tonight when I get home from hiking I plan to roll-out a new polishing update to the demo (though don't worry if you want to play the current demo day 8 build its stable but I do want to polish it a bit more).

Here is the changelog of the polishing update that be will later tonight;

-Removed particles that annoyed people.

-Changed all projectiles that you can block with a shield to be spike balls so you can easily tell what you can and cannot block.

-Included text in the second level being the shooting mechanic introduction letting you know you can only shoot and destroy objects that have targets on them.

-Changed every levels background colors to mix well with the foreground

-Keep the Outliner but made it thicker on objects in the background. (I was close to getting rid of it).

-Made some levels harder because some I found were a little too easy after watching some of you Anons play it.

-Made the first level of the game easier to understand with "YOU", "PUZZLE CUBE", and "GOAL" text so its less text and hopefully easier to understand. (though control explanation is still there).

-Added a battle mode for two local players where you defeat your enemy player by pushing and rolling your own puzzle cube over the enemy players bunny cube to win the match. (With multiple stage hazards and such). The demo version will just have 3 arena's for this. (Sort of like bomber-man but pushing cubes through an area to kill instead of planting bombs). (For the full game release or a later demo update I have not decided I will add 4 player support to this and possibly 8 player).

>for one moment i though this mattered
this is why nato will never come and save us ;_;

>shit hits the fan
>RAD
>anime girls
Nice try buddy

you really need to stop with these particles

the g-man doesn't post lowpoly nor pixel nor porn and he gets a lot of attention, so no, that is *not* needed.

Juice is good but you're really overdoing it with the particles like the other guy says, it's distracting
Why not put them below the stage, not on top

your colour scheme is too muted and those fuCKING PARTICLES ARE SHIT

Early prototype work on the snow world, more colors and textures will follow soon for it. You could say snow is very muted in general but I plan to have ice, wooden bridges, and brown rocks.

Early prototype cube snow as well, so I can't exactly try and have snow be under the stage when its snow, you expect in a winter themed world to have some snow come from the sky.

When I'm done with the game-play on this world, that is when I go back through all the art polish and I will probably shrink the size of the cube snow droplets or make realistic snow fog.

more particles imo

>scrolling through some artist/gamedev's blog
>this pops up

looks like the sort of code that's in multiple best selling game maker games

does that bother you?

you can spend all day writing elegant code. i'll be over here just, like, making games

>tfw Lava Lump

>a ball of lava that burns with a fiery passion, but lacks the motivation.

at least you have passion

Just putting the duck fly functionality into the game. Done an animation now just need to code it.

Pic is an interesting bug where if the player tries to move the duck to a location whilst flying the duck just does a dive bomb.

youtube.com/watch?v=FPFhEwNasf0

added a sunrise/sunset script to my light so its not just always in the same boring position.

Oh man, I was thinking of making a caveman game after the duck game.

Looks really good anyway the character moves really smooth.

People only comment on the quality of the thread when it is bad.

I would just like to say that this thread is very good, well done.

Are there going to be duck competitions to train for and enter?

Third day without water.
I smell like sweat, piss and balls, but still devving straight

Take a shower user, all the best dev ideas come in the shower.

post tumblrs

I have no water.

I did think about letting your duck enter a race or some simple mini-game.

When flying is done i'll have all of the basic features complete (flying, eating, walking, idle, drinking) so I was going to polish the UI and just improve the look and feel ready for a release/demo.

Then from there i'll start on a new group of features and I think a duck event you can enter will be one.
That and letting the player have more than one duck on-screen.

Oh I misunderstood, what happened? Did you not pay your water bill?

Isn't there a place you can take a public shower?

>what happened?
Hydraulic testing. Lasts for a week or two every two month. But most of the time it's either hot or cold water, now it's no water at all.

>Isn't there a place you can take a public shower?
Well, it's either pay a shitton or get herpes in public showers.

Only 2 days and 11 hours left before waifu jam. Get read! Are you ready yet?

Disgusting dirty NEETs like you are my fetish.

Let me rub my face against your hefty, sweaty groin.

>Get herpes in a public shower
Unless you're in Russia or something you're not gonna get herpes in a public shower. At most get sandles and use them in the showers.

It's your life, you can do whatever you want and it IS only a week but personally I can't 2 days without shower, let alone 3, and to imagine a week.

Also that random hydraulic test sound ridiculous as fuck.
